Overview

The rich, detailed tone of an acoustic guitar is created by a delicate triple harmony of strings, neck, and body. But a piezo or magnetic pickup never captures the full body resonance, often resulting in thin sound dominated by the strings. This tendency can't be fully compensated with a conventional preamp equalizer.

The Zoom A2 series incorporates 24-bit/96 kHz sampling and sophisticated sound modeling technology to process the line signal from the pickup, adding a lush body tone and the spatial ambience that is created by mic recording. Even when playing through an amplifier or PA speaker, the resonance of the guitar body is restored, allowing the natural acoustic sound to shine through.

The new ZOOM ZFX-3 32-bit DSP chip
The heart of any multi-effect device is its processor and decoder section. ZOOM has attained a new level with the ZFX-3 chip. 32-bit architecture ensures outstanding performance and allows smooth and detailed signal processing. Fine nuances of fingering and touch come through without any deterioration, thanks to this incredibly powerful DSP.

Select optimum characteristics to match pickup and amp model
The GLOBAL module that controls settings for the entire unit combines a pair of parameters called AMP SELECT and PICKUP SELECT. These let you optimize frequency response for the type of pickup and amp that you are using. Whether recording or live on stage, you can always get just the right acoustic sound.

AMP SELECT: Choose from three settings (combo, bright combo, stack) and eliminate the excessive treble that can ruin the sound when playing an acoustic guitar through an amp.

PICK UP SELECT: Besides piezo and magnetic for acoustic guitars, electric guitar pickup settings such as single-coil and humbucker settings are available, allowing you to use the unit as an acoustic guitar simulator.

I play a Rainsong that sounds amazing on it's own but I dig more dimention and sustain in the songs I play. Santa thought I had been good enough to bring me what I wanted and needed. I really like the variety of effects selections in this unit. and I look forward to the next opportunity I have to perform with it. "Dimen-tion" how much I like this new toy? Thanks Santa!

What kills me is the effects where, you can digitally emulate other guitars. My $400 Fender can sound like a $4000 Gibson, it really is that good. As long as you remember when you set it to play like a Taylor, you're not going to magically turn into Jim Messina, you'll be OK. AWESOME capabilities for the price. It even makes my Fat Strat sound like an acoustic. It's cool.

        To Die For!!!

        By Tod

        from Middle of Nowhere

I had one of these but sold it becuase I wasn't doing that much live acoustic guitar. Dumb A$$!
Very reliable, high quality sounds. 5 years after I bought the first one, I did my research and for this price, there really isn't anything else that compares.

The modeling is great. I did not use that aspect of the pedal very much the first time out but this time I bought it to sweeten my Godin A6 Ultra. PERFECT for that!!! Way better than my old Yamaha that has a really good sound of it's own. The flatter and duller your guitar is, the better that the modeling works. I thought I was going to spend a lot of time making custom presets for the A6 and as soon as I clicked in the Gibson J45 model, I just left it there. I am sure I will be going back and tweaking one out but it really did the job right out of the box.

My only complaint is the lack of presets that combine models with effects. Hence the 9
Does what it says and then some. A little clunky to customize presets but what do you expect for under $100.
Great build quality and nice sounds.
It could be a bit cheaper.

Huge Bang for relatively Little Buck

        By Anthony Russell

        from Houston, TX

I use a Martin DR-16GT with an LR Baggs piezo bridge pickup on a weekly basis direct through a house PA in a 1,500 seat auditorium where the sound guy isn't big on EQ tweaking and I did NOT like my dry sound at all. I was using a Sansamp Acoustic DI with a Boss CE-2 Point-to-point wired chorus and liked the flexibility of the parametric EQ and the subtle textural fill of the Boss chorus but wanted to be able to do more like add some reverb or occasionally add some delay wihtout adding noise to the signal which I could not. Well enter the Zoom A2! What an incredible piece of electronic wizardry. This "Harry Potter" of a multi-effects pedal made my guitar literally leap out of the PA full of life and sonic excitement, I was blown away. I sat there for 5 minutes just flipping back and forth between bypass and effected signal just reveling at how much more lively and full sounding my guitar had become by just adding Reverb/Chorus/ and Parametric EQ. This is one of the best values in guitar effects that I have ever purchased. To put this in perspective I have been playing guitar for over 30 years and have owned just about every effect and multi-effect device on the market and I am truly blown away by this pedal. It may not be for everyone, but I would recommend anyone looking for some interesting coloration for their acoustic sound to at least take a listen before plunking down your multiples of $100's on a Fishman Aura or something similar.

A2 Acoustic Guitar Effects Padal is in it's own league.

        By Robert Luterek

        from Western New York

I've been using this pedal on gigs and in the studio and I would recommend it to anyone.
It has enough features to customize to your exact needs but the presets are pretty good so you may just find the patch for you.
It's rugged and tough. as long as you don't drive over it with your car you should be good to go.
For what you get it's very well priced.

        Handy & worth the co$t.

        By Skeeter-f0mnx

You can nitpick anything. Nothing is a 10 and damned few a 9. That said I've bought four different ZOOM pedals and will probably buy at least one more.
They are Very easy to set up. If you're not happy with factory setting (I'm not) it's no problem to dial in the sound you want.
I've got four different Zoom products bought over the last 15 years of so. No problems with any of them.
Dollar for dollar I've never seen any to beat ZOOM.

        Does anything you want

        By DFru

Very low noise. Effects can be subtle or pronounced as you want. The variety of effects make it suitable for all types of music. the interface is a bit cryptic at times thus 4.5 stars, but the effects quality is great

        Read 1st than plug in!

        By Sean McCormick

        from NJ

Nice but complicated to setup. The sounds and tones you can get from this box are amazing, but it takes hrs to fully setup. This box would be perfect if you could plug it into a computer and change your settings like with the Fishman Aura. I really enjoy the headphone feature and the fact that you can change the input level to high if your pickups are passive just by holding down the down arrow and turning the power on. If you have the time to set this up you cant go wrong for the cash.

        This is IT!

        By Gary Beckwith

        from Yokosuka, Japan

This is becoming THE pedal for acoustic players here in Japan. I'm primarily acoustic and play locally, alone and with others. One of those others (pro musician) demonstrated the A2 for me and I took my old Zoom boxes and put them in the closet! He ran it through only the PA so now I don't carry amps, either! Since I don't play often I haven't gotten into the programming but definitely will. As I experiment with various sounds from my custom-built "Beckwith Strings" guitar ( I'm doing minor tweaks depending on the song, all things to enhance the natural clarity and resonance of the guitar. Not critical to the music but can make a difference when necessary. I especially like the 12-string effect for fill when playing with two or three others. As stated earlier, a well-organized patch sheet and putting the patch number on your set list really helps. On the down side, the double switch for tuner. I play a lot of beach gigs in the summer and making that switch work with flip-flops or bare feet us a real pain. The red display cannot be seen in daylight outdoors. It could really use a pop-up shade that won't interfere with the controls. Little stuff that won't affect the sound. Don't even think twice about spending so little money on such a great box!
