Great effect

By NOAH FELDMAN

from East Lyme, CT

Comments about Zildjian Zil-Bel Cymbal:

Alright, so I may be the only review from a non-metal drummer... But here goes. I drum in a jazz/fusion group (emphasis on fusion, we get into some pretty heavy hard rock sometimes), and I use this a lot- however, I don't use it so much in fills as I do for effect. I have the 9 incher, and the dominant pitch is an F natural, so I often try to sync it with chords that have that note in them. It has a very clear, resonant tone, which cuts through everything and eventually fades to some fundamental drone that goes on seemingly forever. It's an interesting (and somewhat creepy) effect, and I wouldn't hit it too hard in your little garage practice space, if you like your ears. This will probably outlast you, the metal is 3/4 of an inch thick, or so, and I think you'd have to drop it from an airplane to shatter it. You can easily shatter a stick on it, though, so be careful.

Love it.

By Cliff Yankovich

from Ada, MI

Comments about Zildjian Zil-Bel Cymbal:

This was a great addition to my kit. I mounted it upside down on top of my 16" splash. Love the tone and the long decay. Found a fun thing to do - smack it a good one and cup my hand over the top of it and move my hand close to it and back away - makes a neat Leslie speaker like effect. Having so much fun with the six inch version that I will be adding the larger one in the next couple weeks. Sounds very different from any of bells on my 16" and 18" splash or the 20" ride. It is fun to toss it into the middle of things with the long decay. Get one - you will love it.

Good for Studio

By brian

from Indianapolis, IN

Comments about Zildjian Zil-Bel Cymbal:

I gave this thing a try at a friend's house (the 9.5 and 6 inch both), and they sounded pretty good. So when we brought them to a pep band performance (our band instructor lets us use/do anything as long as it's in beat), we expected them to sound good, if not, better than my beloved Meinl Classics High Bell. Well, it couldn't really be heard...at all, at least from a distance. The 9.5" is much louder, but still didn't cut too well. So definitely get these if you want to constantly use mics, but otherwise, go for something louder.

Wonderful addition to my set.

By Clay

from Pennsylvania

Comments about Zildjian Zil-Bel Cymbal:

I got this bell for my birthday and I must say, as soon as I picked it up I could feel how heavy duty it was. My dad warned me not to drop it cause he told about how he hurt his foot even WITH shoes on. That just goes to show how heavy it is. I've only been using it for two days and I've already used it a fair amount. This is, quite possibly, one of the greatest investments put towards my drumset.

Sound makes for cool accents!

By TikDrummer

from CT

Comments about Zildjian Zil-Bel Cymbal:

This sounds great when you use it for accents, but you can also ride on it like a ride bell with a clearer sound. It has long sustain, but if you choke it, it goes silent instantly. I have it mounted upside-down over a crash, but it'd be best mounted near splashes so you could do more interesting, multipart accents.

I <3 my Zil bel

By Richard

from New Jersey

Comments about Zildjian Zil-Bel Cymbal:

One of the coolest cymbals ive ever bought. It cuts through very nicely, and adds an interesting sound to your set. I would recommend this to anyone, but put it on its own stand, it makes it sound a lot better than stacking it. A little pricy, but its made very well so i expect it last a while. Definitely a good purchase.

The Pros and Cons of the Zil-Bel

By Jake

from South Florida

Comments about Zildjian Zil-Bel Cymbal:

Pros: Great bell, best one out there. Very sturdy and a lot heavier than I thought. It appears that it's going to last quite a while. Cons: Very expensive for such a little bell. Maybe a little overpriced. Other Thoughts: I WOULD say it's worth the money if it lasts me a good 3 years. But I'm not sure if it'll last that long. Since it's heavier than I thought, I'd assume it would last really long, but then again, I do tend to go a little crazy when playing. ;)

amazing addition

By Hunter S.

from Cedar Park, Texas

Comments about Zildjian Zil-Bel Cymbal:

I've had a 6" Zil-Bel for about a couple of years now, and I see that people say on here that if you already have a ride and stuff that this thing is kind of pointless, but I strongly disagree. It's allll about how you use it. I mean I've got 2 ride cymbals AND a Zil-Bel. the Zil-Bel may be a good stand-in if your ride bell sucks, but it sounds so much different than a regular ride bell, it gives you so much more versatility. throw it in the middle of a fill or into some fast quads or even hit it at the same time you hit a crash to give some awesome effect. The key is creativity. Zil-Bels are awesome. buy one, and use it.
