Comments about Zildjian K Custom Special Dry Ride Cymbal:
I've had mine now since 2003, and can't say enough about this puppy. Pre-2005 or so, you had to smack ten of them to find one that didn't sound like a poorly made trashcan lid. Nowadays, Zildjian seems to have fine-tuned the hammering, and they pretty much all sound good. Musical, and a little dry, and full, sort of like a Paiste but not like some of the newer Turkish brands which can have a bit of a tinny finish. This plate is pure Zildjian. It responds differently to wood and nylon tipped-sticks. It also makes a difference in that the type of wood your sticks are made of in the tone the cymbal emits. I like 7A ProMark Oak Nylons, and if I switch to a wood-tipped Maple, I have a noticably different sound. The 7A Oak gives an aggressive, forward sound, kind of in your face. The Maple is far more laid back, almost like playing a Mantovani arrangement. You can play pretty much anything with this ride. The bell is terrific--almost like a small cowbell, and the crash roars. Forget about buying a Crash of Doom--you have one here! I think you see a lot of these on eBay because they are older models, not as nice as the newer ones. Don't hesitate to pull the trigger on this cymbal if you're looking for a new and/or unique sound for your kit!
