The K Custom Hybrid series is an innovative cymbal line developed in conjunction with Akira Jimbo, a leading drum stylist. The Hybrids combine the unlathed, brilliant finish of the K Custom Ride on the inner half with the traditionally finished K Zildjian lathing on the outer half of the cymbal. This results in the possibility of two different sound dynamics depending where the cymbal is played. Additionally, the unlathed section helps to control the wash and sustain, rendering them ideal for recording and live situations.

The 20" Ride combines the defined stick attack and strong bell sound of the K Custom Ride with the crash-ability and increased spread of a thinner, lathed cymbal. It provides a unique musical statement that will challenge and inspire your artistic expressions.

Akira said, "Maximum versatility is the main idea with the Hybrid series. I worked with Zildjian to design a line of cymbals where brilliance and darkness co-exist. I think the sound we came up with sets the new standard for the 21st Century."

I'm extremely pleased with my K Custom Hybrid Ride. It has a great dynamic range, as well as a fantastic tonal range that makes it very interesting to play. It's very crashable, and the bell is beautiful and powerful. I play Rock/Pop music, and this ride gives me the versatility I need to play heavier or lighter tunes. Plus, with that unique, half-lathed look, it makes my setup stand out, and wows my friends!

Craaaaaack

Cracked after 2 years. I've never had a ride crack. Crash sounded flat. Just not a great cymbal. Not buying Zildjian again.

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Ride:

I just got this bad boy in the mail today and out of all the best. First off, it's beautiful cosmetically. It's such an awesome looking cymbal. But most importantly, it's such a wonderful ride. It's has the perfect bell for any style of music to be incorporated. It's cuts right through the heaviest riffs. And the crash of the ride is powerful and great. Would definitely recommend it to anyone who is interested. I'm usually a Meinl guy, and I usually feel like Zildjians are over priced for what they are, but this one is DEFINITELY worth the price. Buy it!

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Ride:

I'm in love with this ride. It works fine for me in every situation. Love the ping (actually you have two different pings in 2 zones: brilliant and traditional), love the weight, love the tone, bell is so bright and cuts through every guitar riff. Amazing. And for me one of the biggest advantages is ability of ride to be crashed. Crashability is unbelievable! So dark, low and "psssshhhhh"! Take this and you will be happy in every genre of music!

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Ride:

My FIRST K Custom Ride! Using it along with a 21" A Custom REZO Ride, makes for a great mix and choices. The bell is large and has a fantastic sound. Moving around the cymbal you can get a variety of tones for ride. Has a great crash ride sound also.

Thes K Custom Hybrids are just fantastic. I have the 14" Hi-Hats also. When I replace my older A Zildjian 16"/17"/18" crashes (which are quite fine btw), they will be with K Custom Hybrids!

What a fantastic K Ride! Not too bright, not too dark. Real strong sound. Large bell with a great sound to it, and the middle vs. outer sections provide a good distinction in sound also. I got this an a 14" K Custom Hybrid Hi - also fantastic. From those 2 I realized when I change out my older A Zildjian crashes they will all be K Custom Hybdrid crashes now!

                  By Matt Altieri

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Ride:

This cymbal was definitely a great idea with a very versatile approach. Zildjian did a pretty good job on the idea but the final result was too great. I felt like the whole cymbal sounded more or less the same. If you like the idea then i would recomend the SABIAN OMNI RIDE! This cymbal has the same idea but the versatility is way more distinctive.

                  Heavy rock ride

                  By ADAM TEWS

                  from Seattle, WA

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Ride:

This is a pretty heavy ride cymbal... I used to joke that it's like playing a manhole cover. I didn't really like this ride at first. It rang with dissonance when played lightly with a wood-tip 3A, though it did sound smoother and crisper when played with a nylon tip 7A. Then a local pro rock drummer used it on a session I was engineering, and it was perfect in that application! I've found that this cymbal is great for rock music when it's hit good and hard; the ping really comes alive, and it cuts through the mix without overpowering. It's not a very nuanced cymbal, but for rock settings when you want to play it hard, it will open up and sing beautifully.

                  Take a musical ride ....

                  By Tim Cooper

                  from Kalamazoo, MI

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Ride:

I have two setups -- an auxilliary percussion rack for a Classic Rock band and a small drum kit for an acoustic Americana band. About 2 years ago, when shopping for a ride cymbal for my aux percussion kit, I came across the Zildjian K Custom Ride. I bought the 20-inch version. My experience can be summed up in one word: "wow." It is the most musical, versatile cymbal I have ever heard. In my opinion, it has the best sounding bell of anything else I have played. I have found that the K Custom Hybrid also sound fantastic with mallet roles for crescendos when I'm looking for those low, dark, haunting accents. When I joined the acoustic band, and took up the drum kit, I bought some nice K Light hi hats, but decided to buy a cheap crash and ride to save some money. I was reasonably happy with the sound but, as a relatively inexperienced drummer, I was more focused on fundamentals and couldn't fully explore my cymbals. As I have gained confidence in my drumming skills, I started paying more attention to the cymbals and recently decided it was time to replace the cheapies. I play my kit with rods and brushes, and was looking for a ride over which I could achieve good dynamic control. I tried several rides and it seemed that the more I auditioned, the more frustrated I became. On a whim, I decided to play a gig with my acoustic band using my K Custom Hybrid. I fell in love with it all over again! At this point, I am seriously considering buying another so I don't have to share a cymbal bag between my two bands. I may try the 21-inch model, just so I am not totally redundant. Last Christmas, I bought a K Custom Hybrid 20 for my son, a hard hitter who plays in a local Indie Rock band. He is hooked on this ride cymbal too. Just buy this thing. It's an expensive cymbal, but worth every penny.

                  Worth the Money

                  By Colin

                  from Austin, Texas

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Ride:

I currently own the 21 inch version of this ride. This ride definitely fulfills its purpose, which is to be very versitile. The ride looks unique, has the K Custom brand name to wow your fellow drumming friends, and has a great sound. The ride on the lathed half has a great combination of ping and wash, while the lathed area near the bell has more ping and ride clarity. The bell is also very strong and can pierce through most mixes when shouldered with your stick. The crash is semi-dry, rich, and fits nicely into most musical stylings. I would definitely recommend the 21" if you want a washier ride and a fuller crash, and the 20" for a clearer ping and ride definition. Get this ride!
