Developed in conjunction with leading drum stylist Akira Jimbo, the Zildjian K Kustom Hybrid Crash cymbal features an innovative brilliant/traditional surface that produces different tones depending on where the cymbal is played for a musical "darkness with brilliance" combination. The inner half features the unlathed, brilliant finish of the K Custom Ride, while the outer half features the traditionally finished K Zildjian lathing. The unlathed section helps control the wash and sustain, making it ideal for recording and live situations.

The relatively thin design of the crash results in a very responsive quality. It opens up quickly but still has the ability to project loudly and cut into dense mixes due to the unlathed bell.

"Maximum versatility is the main idea with the Hybrid series. I worked with Zildjian to design a line of cymbals where brilliance and darkness coexist. I think the sound we came up with sets the new standard for the 21st Century."--Akira Jimbo

Features
  • Developed with Akira Jimbo
  • Unlathed, brilliant finish of the K Custom Ride on the inner half

If you are a serious drummer/percussionist, then this is a must have! I have tested them in multiple playing situations from acoustic driven rock and country to blistering head banging metal and have yet to be disappointed. I also have the Hybrid splashes which are equally as fantastic. They go very well with other cymbals such a the A Customs and even Sabian's Paragons nonetheless! Of course the only gripe I have with the Hybrids is the heavy price tag but you get what you pay for. If you can afford even one of them I highly recommend them!

Okay so.... I tried this cymbal at GC, (they had the 17" and 19"). I played the 17" and it was really nice but I prefer 18" crashes. So I bought the 18" and I'm pleased with it; however it's a very dark crash so it's not good for crashing on it over and over. So if you're looking for a bright crash this IS NOT the crash for you. Amazing crash and very beautiful appearance (great quality as well) I'm definitely still going to use it as am offhand crash above the hi-hat, but will definitely buy an 18" A custom crash for a main crash instead.

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

Hands down the best crashes I've ever owned or used! I have the 17" & 18". I don't know what some people are talking about when they say these are too light or chip and crack easily, I hit like a sledgehammer and have no issues at all. I've had these for 6 months and not a single problem, pricey.....but you get what you pay for and these are top quality!!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THESE CRASHES!,,I have the 16,17,19 crashes, and the 21" hybrid ride,,, but my 16 & 19 are my "go to", crashes!,,,CLEAN, CRISP, and so many different sounds in each crash depending on where you hit your crash! I also have the 14 1/4" hi-hats,,,,pricey, but worth the money spent! They sound good no matter what kind of music you play, I play country, country gospel, classic rock, and they "PUT OUT" no matter what kind of music I play. BUY THESE YOU WON'T BE SORRY!

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

The 17" Zildjian K Custom Hybrid is an excellent auxillary or primary crash for recording or live performance. Being on the thin side it might not have the unamplified volume for hard rock, metal or punk, but could be used in those situations if an adequate PA is used with a quality overhead microphone. However the benefits of the thin profile and gradual taper and small to medium bell are immediately apparent upon striking the cymbal. The fast attack is soft and almost fuzzy sounding and the quick wash is warm and blends very very well with other K series cymbals, particularly the 16" K Dark Thin Crash, the 18" K Dark Crash, and the 18" K Constantinople crash. I also like it paired with the 12" K Custom Dark Splash. For recording, there are few other cymbals that can deliver this combination of tone attack and decay, it would sound great on pop, rock, jazz, reggae, and recordings of other musical styles. This ia a very nice crash that should provide years of musical enjoyment for nearly all musical styles. I recommend it you you, you won't be disapointed.

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

I absolutely love the sound of the 19" K Custom Hybrid. Probably my favorite crash ever. I have went through 3 of them though. I bought the warranty and its covered. I play heavy, fast, and aggressive music mostly, but this is a great all around cymbal. A bit high on price but thats any quality music gear.

          Too dark

          By Josh Garcia

          from Friendswood Tx

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

I always enjoy trying new products so i was eager to hear how this one sounded. The look is quite modern and catches the eye. The two tone look of the cymbal and the originality of it are an awesome aesthetic touch. The cymbal has a very dark sound that I am not particularly fond of. It limits the cymbals versatility removing that sharp crisp sound that one craves. I returned my purchase the following morning.

          Zildjian K Hybird 17 cymbals.

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

Likes: Sound Looks of the two laths. Stamp is Cool! great application for Rock, Country, Classic Blues etc...
Disslikes: Price off charts for a light cymbal , resale value SUCKS in todays market, and they way Zildjian processes the cymbal because of the finger prints and scratches.
I have been playing for over 33 years. I just boutght 13 hats, 9,11,15,17,18,20 in The K Hibird. They sound is great. I have owned paiste sigs full set, I just replace my Sabian HH full set with the K Hibirds. the difference is the K Hibireds are lighter so the sound will not travel as far as the Sabian HH. But you can realy work some nice dymanics out on them. Dont get me wrong now the 17,18 will put out some volume by all means! I would have to say the K Hibirds are a lot like the Sabian AA in projection and as excellent as the High end Paiste Signatures. If you going for head banging better get a heavyer cymbal or hard music. Rock, country, blues, classic etc... this is a great application. I was a bit dissipointed as to how the new cymbal looked when delivered to me. Zildjian apperently throws them together wiht no seprators becasue of the scratches and funky crap on cymbals. But I am picky so it could be me! I like a nice clean cymbal. I had to send the cymbals back 3 tims to get what I wanted. But let me tell you Musician Friends took very very good care of me!!! These days with all the rush on customers buying up every thing. Musician friends made sure I felt like their only customer and proved it time after time.
QUALITY: is great can beat it! very well made cymbal and great looking laths and stamps.

          Jewel of my kit

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

No words can say how much I love this cymbal. It outshines any other cymbal in my kit. I like that you don't have to wail on it for it to project it has a very nice tone and decent wash. I first purchased an 18" about a month ago and fell in love immediately I loved it so much that I just ordered a 17" before I wrote this review, however I must warn heavy hitters it is very light and is not recommended for metal. Other than the high cost and light-weight it is well worth it!

          Fantastic Cymbals

          By Matt

          from Red Oak, TX

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

Out of all my cymbals this is my favorite crash. I have the 19" Hybrid Crash. It works well with different types of music. The cymbal is well made and what I like is the different sounds you can get from this cymbal from the combined finishes. You can even use the bell for a different ride sound that you can't get from most crashes. So far it has held up to the punishment without cracking or denting and I've owned it for over 3 years. I will eventually add more of the hybrid line to my setup. I highly recommend these cymbals. They are high priced but the result you get is well worth what you pay.
