Overview

Developed in conjunction with leading drum stylist Akira Jimbo, the Zildjian K Kustom Hybrid Crash cymbal features an innovative brilliant/traditional surface that produces different tones depending on where the cymbal is played for a musical "darkness with brilliance" combination. The inner half features the unlathed, brilliant finish of the K Custom Ride, while the outer half features the traditionally finished K Zildjian lathing. The unlathed section helps control the wash and sustain, making it ideal for recording and live situations.

The relatively thin design of the crash results in a very responsive quality. It opens up quickly but still has the ability to project loudly and cut into dense mixes due to the unlathed bell.

"Maximum versatility is the main idea with the Hybrid series. I worked with Zildjian to design a line of cymbals where brilliance and darkness coexist. I think the sound we came up with sets the new standard for the 21st Century."--Akira Jimbo

FEATURES

  • Developed with Akira Jimbo
  • Unlathed, brilliant finish of the K Custom Ride on the inner half
  • Traditionally finished K Zildjian lathing on the outer half

If you are a serious drummer/percussionist, then this is a must have! I have tested them in multiple playing situations from acoustic driven rock and country to blistering head banging metal and have yet to be disappointed. I also have the Hybrid splashes which are equally as fantastic. They go very well with other cymbals such a the A Customs and even Sabian's Paragons nonetheless! Of course the only gripe I have with the Hybrids is the heavy price tag but you get what you pay for. If you can afford even one of them I highly recommend them!

Okay so.... I tried this cymbal at GC, (they had the 17" and 19"). I played the 17" and it was really nice but I prefer 18" crashes. So I bought the 18" and I'm pleased with it; however it's a very dark crash so it's not good for crashing on it over and over. So if you're looking for a bright crash this IS NOT the crash for you. Amazing crash and very beautiful appearance (great quality as well) I'm definitely still going to use it as am offhand crash above the hi-hat, but will definitely buy an 18" A custom crash for a main crash instead.

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

I love my 17" Hybrid, I'm very serious when it comes to my K's (thats all a play)I don't car for the K customs that much I'm a huge fan of the Traditional K's(older/original) but Zildjian has definitely did themselves and me a favor with producing these awesome Hybrids, and I love the hats even though I don't own them yet I've played them and I'll be adding them to my stash with my 13" A cst. mastersounds....

Beautiful cymbal

By Atomcpunk

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

I had been looking forever for a cymbal to offset my K Custom Dark crash. I wanted a bright and "brilliant" cymbal and had tried the A Customs and the A Custom fast crash's. They are wonderful cymbals, but didnt seem to project like I wanted. Finally, I stumbled upon the K Custom Hybrid crash. This cymbal is full bodied and bright with a beautiful wash and nice high end. Im very happy with my purchase and just wish the cymbal came in even sizes too. I love it.

K Custom Hybrid Crashes, perfection at last

By AccurateSound1985

from Columbus, OH

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

Boy do I love these cymbals, and excellent addition to an already great line of cymbals, being the K Customs. Out of all the Zildjian cymbals I think the K Custom Hybrids are my favorites. The crashes are odd-sized which always appeals to me, as I like being different. But the number of sounds you can pull from the hybrids is nearly endless. You can definitely attribute this to the combination of lathing and unlathing and traditional and brilliant finishes on the cymbal. If you play all types of music and need one set of cymbals go for these. I just wish they were out when I revamped my cymbal setup, because I'm stuck with my next favorite crash cymbals the A Custom Thin Crashes. Do yourself a favor and try these out today. They were more than I expected them to be.

Can you love a cymbal?

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

Yes you can, and this is it. I loved my 17" K Hybrid so much I bought the 19" as well. The sounds I get from these cymbals are amazing. I use them for rock music, but they would be great Jazz cymbals as well. Check them out.

You'll never switch again...

By andrew

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

We've been using the K hybrid 17" crash and 13" hats in pep and jazz band for over 2 years now, with the other crash being an 17" A cust. This crash is beyond words. Beautiful high-end attack with a washy decay, and it is so full-bodied and versatile you can use it for any, and i mean any style of music that exsists. It has held up incredibly to brutal and lifeless beating and I'm very tempted to pick up the 17" myself. And the like the description says...it cuts, but it doesn't just cut, it also maintains that beautiful tone, despite how hard you hit or what venue you're playing at. I'm very picky when it comes to drums, and I'm currently using an all Sabian set-up. After hearing this crash for the past couple years I can't resist spending a mere $275 on what could be the best crash anyone has heard.

      UNBELIEVABLE

      By Max

      from Providence, Rhode Island

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

The K Custom Hybrid Crash from Zildjian is one of the most versatile, explosive, and definitive crashes I have ever owned. I purchased the 17in. model and was overly pleased. I have been using it on gigs ever since I've bought it and not to mention, I have received countless compliments on this cymbal. I love it because of the washy sound it creates. It's not a generic crash, it's unique crash and is perfect live and in the studio. Lastly, it feels good to play and when you hit it, you thank god that Zildjian did humanity a huge favor. LOVE IT!

      Best All-Around Crash Ever!!!

      By PearlReference7101

      from Kansas City, Missouri

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

I bought this cymbal used yesterday after I heard my friend's at a gig and loved the sound. What I love most about it is that it is dark and bright at the same time. It has amazing projection, due to the polished, unlathed bell; but is still thin enough to feel like a thin-crash cymbal when you hit it. If you have the money, I definitely recommend buying this cymbal.

      Great sound.... but not durable

      By Andy B.

      from Nashville, TN

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

My Drummers have been using these for about a year now and anything 18" or bigger has cracked in the first 6 months. The guys I've been teching for are by now means hard hitters and are very consistent.... these just won't hold up under everyday use. Zildjian will replace them the first time, but claims that "extreme temperatures" are to blame. My cymbals are either on the bus or in the venue at all times and never go in the trailer. Temperature ranges from 60 to 80 degrees.

      Fantastic Cymbals

      By Matt

      from Red Oak, TX

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

Out of all my cymbals this is my favorite crash. I have the 19" Hybrid Crash. It works well with different types of music. The cymbal is well made and what I like is the different sounds you can get from this cymbal from the combined finishes. You can even use the bell for a different ride sound that you can't get from most crashes. So far it has held up to the punishment without cracking or denting and I've owned it for over 3 years. I will eventually add more of the hybrid line to my setup. I highly recommend these cymbals. They are high priced but the result you get is well worth what you pay.

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

From recording to live shows, I rely on these cymbals. I have the 17 and 19in crashes, and they are the most beautiful cymbals I have heard. I always get compliments at the end of a show of how defined they sounded. from accents to riding the crash, everything is clear and defined. Very great cymbal

K Custom Hybrid. All of the details given for these cymbals sound perfect, and for the price, what you get is a superb product. BUT if you trully want an unmatched dark yet brilliant cymbal, Paiste Signature Dark Energy is the best you can buy. Given you will pay a bit more for them, they are trully the most complex and versatile dark yet brilliant cymbal. PAISTE>Zildjian in all of their top lines. If you cant compare them right next to eachother in person, compare the sound samble on each website.

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

No words can say how much I love this cymbal. It outshines any other cymbal in my kit. I like that you don't have to wail on it for it to project it has a very nice tone and decent wash. I first purchased an 18" about a month ago and fell in love immediately I loved it so much that I just ordered a 17" before I wrote this review, however I must warn heavy hitters it is very light and is not recommended for metal. Other than the high cost and light-weight it is well worth it!

        Too dark

        By Josh Garcia

        from Friendswood Tx

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Hybrid Crash:

I always enjoy trying new products so i was eager to hear how this one sounded. The look is quite modern and catches the eye. The two tone look of the cymbal and the originality of it are an awesome aesthetic touch. The cymbal has a very dark sound that I am not particularly fond of. It limits the cymbals versatility removing that sharp crisp sound that one craves. I returned my purchase the following morning.
