Great for Jazz

By Desmond

from Kansas City, MO

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Dark Ride Cymbal:

This cymbal is great as a regular jazz cymbal. Great stick definition, colorful crash qualities, and just the right amount of wash. The cymbal's bell is great for playing accents, especially in latin and bossa music. I definitely got the bang for my buck.

K Custom Dark

By Gman

from CT

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Dark Ride Cymbal:

Opon your glance at this cymbol up close, you will experience the majestic texture of the dark ride. Divots that represent Nastalgia of vintage k's. The dark ride is an excellent selection for a ride cymbal which is very versitle. Moderate stick definition with exceptional decay and wash. Do not hesitate to crash down on the dark ride. This cymbal would fit any serious musicians style. A masterpiece from the Zildjian factory.

Why aren't K's more readily available?

By jameshj

from Antrim, N.H.

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Dark Ride Cymbal:

I own three K's the dark customs, I love them and have other drummers turned on to them, but when ever we come to your store the quantities are limited. I have asked several times to get in various sizes for us to try out, but I am told the Zildjian rep is limited to what he can bring. I feel and not alone mine you, that a variety such as 13and 14 inch Hi Hats, 14,15,16,17,18,20,22,inch cymbals would realy make a difference, I would probably own two or three more, I drum for four different bands, and need different sounds for each one I have a complete set of A Customs, three K's and both 13" and 14" Zildjian Hi Hats Most of us experienced drummers prefer the cast sound, but K's are becoming quite popular. If you could expand your selection I'm sure it would be to your favor as far as sales. My particular favorites are the dark and the session types. thanks for the open ear, hope you can help in this matter, Thanks

Good while it lasts

By Matthew

from Vicksburg, MS

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Dark Ride Cymbal:

I love this cymbal. It has a great crashing sound to ride on as well as soft sound if you ride on the top. I've had two of them, and each one has lasted about 9 months.

By FAR the best ride I have ever played.

By Neil

from Massachusetts

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Dark Ride Cymbal:

The Zildjian K Custom Dark Ride cymbal is by FAR the best ride I have played. The bell has serious "ping," and I find that it can be played as another hi hat, a rare feature in ride cymbals. It is also extremely durable. I've been wailing on this ride and it stands up to the beating every time with no smashing, denting, cracking, etc. The divots also ensure that the "shimmer" resonates and lasts. Don't be afraid to hit this thing hard. It sounds better that way. Sounds like the crash cymbals in the Donnie Marple Drum Off 2007 video. I recommend using this with any good Sabian crash and the K Custom Dark Splash.

Dark and Beautiful

By Jarell Terry

from Fremont California

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Dark Ride Cymbal:

I bought this Ride aobut a year ago and it sounds just great. It has just the right amount of Decay and tone. I really love the look of this cymbal. The K range of the zildjian brand is top notch and the K custom Dark ride is one of the best Ride cymbals around. My A zildjian hihats go perfect with this ride for Jazz. Zildjian is gettin "down" with beautiful instruments.

Great Cymbal

By James Kirkland

from Bristol, PA

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Dark Ride Cymbal:

I bought, sold, and traded a few ride cymbals before I settled with this one. I could use this ride for the rest of my life and not get tired of it. This ride is very articulate and is capable of a really good dynamic range. You can play very articulated patterns or create a great wall of sound. The bell is really nice on this cymbal as well. Not to dark or bright, not to pingy or washy, cutting but not abrasive - this cymbal is perfect IMHO.

Not entirely sold...

By David

from Milwaukee, WI

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Dark Ride Cymbal:

I have had this cymbal for nearly 4 years now and I am still not entirely sold on it. Dont get me wrong it sounds GREAT but Im not sure if its quite what I was looking for. Ill do my best to explain its sound though. I agree with the description about the dry stick attack (even a little pingy) and trashy accents and the overall darkness of the cymbal but I would not go as far as to call it warm. Thats sort of what is bothering me about it in fact. Its lacking any underlying warmth to its sound so it comes off as abrasvive SOMETIMES. But Its still a great ride cymbal and crash without a doubt.

Wow.

By Joshua Rosema

from Cadillac MI

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Dark Ride Cymbal:

I've been looking at this cymbal for a few months now and I was planning on buying it after Christmas, but a few of my friends pooled money and got the 22" for me. Let me say that I've owned and played on some expensive and good sounding cymbals (including the Meinl Byzance Heavy Traditonal Ride) but this one takes the cake, so to speak. First off, if you are looking for a exceptionally "pingy" ride, look elsewhere. While it does have a nice ping and good definition, it doesn't over power the ride. It also doesn't get overly "washy" either; it will behave and give you a nice, dark sound that is warm and controlled when played lightly. Hit it hard and it comes to life. I described it to a friend as having a split personality. I use it as a crash/ride along with an 18" A Custom crash. In short, I had very very high hopes for this cymbal, and it made me look silly by completely exceeding every one of those.

Ride the K Custom Dark 22"

By DOUGLAS LADORE

from Beverly Hills, CA

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Dark Ride Cymbal:

My cymbal choices are almost always Zildjian and I favor the K Customs in most cases. I use my Roland Electronic Drum set with one snare, three toms, and double kick Bass Drum. I added a small Pearl 10" acoustic snare to my kit, a Pearl 13 X 7" snare, and a Pearl Hi-Hat with Zildjian 13" Pocket cymbals. With these instruments I can play everything by hand and/or with sticks for most of my music. Almost everybody knows the cymbals on electronic sets don't do a good job compared to real cymbals. So I replaced all the electronic cymbals with Zildians. When I decided to research and try ride cymbals, I spent a lot of time playing every brand of cymbal out there and finally decided the K custom Dark 20" was the best choice. But after playing it for three weeks and continuing to compare it to other 20" and 22" rides, I was convinced the 22" was indeed the best choice. I chose the DW 9700 Boom Stand to hold the 22" cymbal. This is the best ride cymbal I have ever used over and above anything else out there. I always buy quality no matter what the cost - this cymbal is well worth the investment.

Great.

By Joshua Rosema

from Michigan

Comments about Zildjian K Custom Dark Ride Cymbal:

I already wrote a review of the 22" version of this cymbal. Since then, I also bought the 20". The 20 is a completely different animal. While it shares the same dark tonal quality, it washes out almost immediately. To avoid this, playing very lightly is needed. This is totally fine for me since I use it as a crash, but something important to know if you're looking to buy it and use it as a ride. The tone is also a bit harsh in comparison to my 22". It has a nice sounding bell, although I don't use it very often. Also, when played with mallets for swells, it comes to life quite nicely. Great as a crash. Decent as a ride.
