Zildjian's groundbreaking new Acoustic/Electric technology in a true crash cymbal. The Gen16 cymbals combine low volume acoustic cymbals, dual-head mini microphone system and a controller with preset tone modeling that allows the user to experience an array of Zildjian tones and add effects to each AE cymbal. The Zildjian Gen16 Cymbals won Best of Show at the 2011 Winter NAMM show!
"The Acoustic Electric Cymbal is capable of creating a wide range of sounds, from that of a classic Zildjian cymbal to some very non-traditional sounds," explains Zildjian's VP of New Business & Product Development, John Roderick. "For drummers, it will have an inspirational impact akin to what the acoustic electric guitar has done for guitarists."

Comments about Zildjian Gen16 Acoustic-Electric Cymbal Crash & Pickup System:
You can see a more thorough review of the Gen-16 cymbals under the 14, 18, 20 Gen-16 cymbal set reviews. I got this to add on to the other Gen-16 cymbals I have. Let's be honest, one crash just isn't enough. The higher tones you get from the 16" are a great compliment to the the 18" crash, 20" ride, and 14" hi-hat combo. The plus side is that there's still room for one more cymbal on the DSP before you have to go out and buy another DSP. As stated in another review, these cymbals have a great sound and quality (nothing less was expected from Zildjian). You wouldn't believe it until you played them, but the hundreds of holes don't make them as "less durable" as you'd think.
