These would be 5 stars if...

Comments about Zildjian Dip 5A Wood Drumsticks, Buy 3 Get 1 Free:

I love the feel of these sticks. They fit perfectly in my hand. The dip grip feels good and gives me extra control. If they lasted longer these sticks would be my stick of choice. There in lies the only problem. Ive purchased these twice for around $10 a set and after using them in a practice or two and once on stage they are either broken they are on the verge of being broken. I will admit I am a hard hitter but almost all other sticks I use from around the same price range seem to last 3 to 4 times longer. If Zildjian can find a way to make these sticks more durable they would have a customer for life.

Comments about Zildjian Dip 5A Wood Drumsticks, Buy 3 Get 1 Free:

I prefer to choose my sticks based on my hand size. I have medium-large hands and thinner sticks (e.g., 7A) force me to grip harder, causing hand cramps and loss of control. So I tried stick wraps. I'd wrap my sticks with the Pro-Mark stuff, but it was just too expensive (sticks + wrap = $12 or more), and the wrap added girth to the stick, which required a thinner stick. A thinner stick has a completely different sound than a thicker, meatier stick, and they play very different than thicker sticks due to their additional mass. This led me to try the dipped sticks. I did a blind test at the drum store. I put out all their dipped sticks on a counter, blindfolded myself and simply held each pair, and played lightly on a drum pad. After trying each pair several times, it became apparent that one pair had a good fit with my hands: the 5A dipped. The balance is good, the bead make a cymbal sound I like and the dipped handle allows me to have a very loose grip, which I love. The down-side to these sticks is that they splinter easily from the bead toward the handle. It's almost like they've been dried out. I'm not a hard player and sometimes I'll go through a pair in a single practice session. That never happened with Vic Firth or Johnny Rabb sticks I've used in the past.
