All of my cymbals are A Customs; 2 crashes, ride, splash and china. So when it came time to replace my HiHats naturally I started looking at A Customs. I went with the 13" mastersounds as I thought it would match my set up better. While all the cymbals sounds great, and when describing their sound, I usually say it sounds like a " wet window breaking", I was very disappointed with the hihat sound.
There is no "chick" sound at all, just sounds like a threw my sticks on the garage floor.
When played loose it sounds clanky, like a tin can, and when played open they are even worse. No swoosh or wash, no tight chick. I can't understand how anybody actually likes the sound of these, they do not sound like normal hihats!!!
So if you're looking for a traditional hihat sound, then these are not for you! Luckily MF let me return them in exchange for the K custom hybrid hats in 14.1/4", they were about a hundo more but well worth it! I'm sad I couldn't complete my entire A custom set up but what is more important is sound!
Usually I tell people that you get what you pay for but even with these A custom mastersounds HH, it's almost a rip off! Unless you want hats that don't sound like hats, don't get these!

Well, all i can add to the other reviews, When i tried these,i was very dis-appointed in Zildjian! they are very flat sounding, like hitting on tin cans from your Mother's trash can! Got rid of them as soon as i played them,i have ALWAYS been a Zildjian fan, but went to the SABIAN AAX, Don't throw your money away! For the price, they are at the bottom along with the Zildjian ZBT's

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Mastersound Hi-Hat Pair:

Excellent sound, responsive, and slightly open gives an amazing feel whan playing a straight beat. The bottom cymbal is thicker than the one on top. I'm currently playing in a versatile band, and this pair really works for almost all kinds of music! Easy to clean too! I totally recommend buying this product...

          Zildjian Quality.

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Mastersound Hi-Hat Pair:

Zildjian cymbals are created by one of the oldest businesses in the world. 360 years of constant research and developement along with dedicated craftmanship pays off again with these Mastersound A Custom Hats. I was looking for a pair of 13's, just for the sake of size. I have a peculiar body arrangement so it seems, and thought smaller hats would help with my angles. Anyway, I happened upon these 14's, and fell in love with the sound and stick response. Bought them. Got a great deal, but would have paid full price. These are the Stradivarius of hihats. If you have the money, and are serious about your instrument, this is a no brainer. With all the choices out there it can be difficult to choose. Do yourself a favor, think 360 years of proven quality and passion behind your choice of a top of the line product. You cannot go wrong.

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Mastersound Hi-Hat Pair:

I own heavier, darker Sabian hats but when I played with my blues trio I felt like I had to play at a much higher volume to get the full sound I was looking for. The 13" Mastersound Zildjians allow me to play with a broader range of dynamics and still get the clean cut sound. They are loud when I need them to be but full at low volume settings as well. I love these hats!!

nice hi hats, but for me they seemed average... i love the a custom line of cymbals so i guess i was expecting more, these hi hats had almost too much of a click when closed. open sounded amazing, but the closed just wasnt what i was hoping for

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Mastersound Hi-Hat Pair:

This review is mainly for the 13 inch pair, but I also tried the 15 inch and it wasn't much better.

I bought a 13 inch set of A Custom Mastersound hats to replace a 14 inch Zildjian K. The K must be a better hat because of the price, but they sound like they're in a tube when they're played open. My experience with the A Custom Mastersounds is on the other end. While they sound better than the Ks open, riding them closed sounds like I'm playing on a piece of plastic. Playing with the meat of the stick on the edge of the hat isn't much better either. I found a set of 15's at Guitar Center last night, and they sounded like an even bigger piece of plastic. It's strange because I've been playing on a pair of 14 inch A Custom Mastersounds (they aren't mine tho) in the band I play with, and I found them to be a nice set of hats. I want better for my personal kit tho.

I've seen these hats referred to as "top of the line" in reviews and some forums. The bar must be real low these days because although these hats (and also the cymbals in the A Custom lineup) look good around a drumkit, their sound isn't much better than those cheap Mieni cymbal sets that are included with low end starter drumkits.

They sound like hi-hats should sound?

            By Kyle Boe

            from Undisclosed

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Mastersound Hi-Hat Pair:

I love these hi-hats! The ones i had before were ZBT's but the A Custom Mastersounds..... Just blew me away when i heard them for the first time while playing my friends' drum set. These things are going to last a while. If you have the money (Musicians Friend always has a sale) then buy them!
Well, you have the traditional black logo for the A Customs which looks really good on these hi-hats, they came in a brilliant finish which makes them look shiny and expensive (sound is much more important though). The bottom hi-hat has little ridges for air to seap through which i personally think is amazing because you get that type of "chick" sound that you want from a set of hi-hats.
They have an amazing sound, clean chick, pingy bell and excellent washy sound when half open or loose.
For the price, these are nothing less than amazing! I would definitely recommend these to someone else in any size (i prefer 13").

KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GETTING ! ! !

            By B like Neil

            from Dallas, TX

Comments about Zildjian A Custom Mastersound Hi-Hat Pair:

While these excel at certain types of music, at others however, they stink. Don't get me wrong, I'm a 25+ yr Zildjian loyalist, and I'll play them until I'm worm food. These are great for heavy rock and "Zep" tribute bands, but they are just not very versatile. Specifically, you cannot get a tight, crisp, hi-hat sound when you are keeping steady time - no matter how hard you have the HHat pedal squashed down. The inherent ripple design of the bottom hat allows too much vibration and movement, and thus a sloppy "closed" HHat sound. I ended up swapping the bottom hat for a Quick Beat and I now have the tight, controlled, crisp closed-hat sound when called for, as well as the skull-jarring half-open mayhem when I need it. If I had to do it all over again, I would have just gone with the Quick Beat set for the increased versatility and the heavy weight.
