This ride sounded great in the store but even better played with my kit! I previously had a 20" k custom dark ride which has a beautiful tone but washes out when played heavy. This ride has excellent stick definition providing a sweet clear ping and low, dark overtones which stay at a low to moderate volume. Can be played heavy without worry of running away from you. Its medium weight allows for good stick rebound too. Versatile- could be used for jazz, blues, rock, metal and in close or large settings. In my opinion, this is what a ride should sound like.
I have played many rides over the past 20 years, and I discovered this one while in a pro-recording studio in Brooklyn, NY. The sound engineer asked me to try this ride, and I was amazed and how versatle and sweet sounding it was. I immediately bought one. It has a quick decay, which means it doesn't build up to loud when riding heavy on it, like some heavier rides. The bell cuts through nicely. What I especially like, is that you can crash it, or just hit "accents" on it, while continuing to ride on it, and these come accents come through beautifully, but fade back to your ride groove nicely. I highly recommend this for rock and jazz.
Incredible! The Zildjian K ride cymbal is cymbal is amazing! It hardly has any overtones and a perfect ping with a very faint sizzly wash. It lives up to the reason we have ride cymbals. If you want to crash it you can and it produces a loud sizzly washy sound that makes your ears yearn for the sound to be played again. Buy one today and you will love this cymbal forever!
