Thing is about the Lunchbox Acoustic and in fact all the ZT amps is this...they are 'tools'. They are not (at least to me) the Holy Grail of all amps...I don't know the Holy Grail of ALL amps. I picked this little amp for a number of reasons...its size of course, it's controls and the second channel. I use it most of the time at one user suggested is 'coffee house' level. Honestly if I am playing acoustic with a full band, I would use the house system and the fills...not a Lunchbox. Come on, look at the drivers, guys...you think THAT is going to beat a pair of wedges? Of course not. Let's not confuse what this product is for realistically. I also use it for one of my archtops...and I find the sound reflects both the acoustic and the electric nature of a quality archtop without sounding like the cookie cutter Polytone...and I like that. I've used it with trio (acoustic bass and drums) and at 'norma' levels it is great. And it fits in a backpack for heavens sake...then you have channel 2 !! I run a mic into it and take the direct out to a house system and use it as a monitor...and I love this about it! For a house PA with no reverb (yes, they still exist) it has saved my night more than once. It is always considered as part of my rig. Fact is I have all three ZT models, plus the ext cabinet. THey ALL are great products if you look at it for what it is. They are flexible and fine sounding small footprint tools to get a job done well. They record VERY well and fit a lot of needs. I have many other amps, some for this, some for that...the ZT products fit nicely in my arsenal of working tools...I am anxious for them to keep improving and remodeling their products - these guys are on the right path.

What a complete disappointment. I ordered this amp believing that it was 200 watts with a DI output, a woofer specially designed to handle large excursions for high volume applications, and a natural acoustic sound. The amp I received had none of these. I measured the amp power at about 130 watts RMS. The output jack that is labeled DI is anything but that, not balanced not transformer isolated and not wired for a 3 conductor cable connector. The paper woofer has a pressed paper surround not even a butyl rubber surround for response linearity as the volume goes up. And the sound? It's a modeled pre-amp stage but with no user access to the modeling parameters. I hear a guitar sound that some talented software engineers created to their liking in Berkeley CA. I don't hear the sound of my guitar as it sounds unplugged or through good acoustic amps that sound transparent.

ZT is misrepresenting this product in their marketing and advertising -- not a 200 watt amp, no DI, no linear woofer response with increasing volume, and a contrived modeled sound. What surprises me most is that the professional magazine reviewers haven't picked up on any of this, except for a few who have pointed out that the amplifier is not as powerful as ZT says it is.

Comments about ZT Lunchbox 200W 1x6.5 Acoustic Combo Amp:

These are OK amps if you want a practice amp but their "power" rating system seems to be different than all others. It's compact with a lot of features but loud is not on that list. If you want a loud bang for your buck there are many choices that outshine this on and are much cheaper. I replaced mine with a Fender 90 watt which, from volume and sound quality, buried the ZT. I gave mine to a friend who plays occassionally.

Comments about ZT Lunchbox 200W 1x6.5 Acoustic Combo Amp:

A friend used the smaller version of this at a gig at a small bar just for his electric guitar and I was impressed that so much volume came from such a small package. So I bought this acoustic version, to use for my vocal mic and acoustic guitar at small gigs. There's no way this thing is 200W. I finally used it only as a monitor because it just wasn't loud enough (luckily I had another amp in the car). The quality of the sound is ok and I like that it has reverb on both channels so I don't have to use pedals. But it's just a toy to practice at home with now. In fact, it fell forward onto it's face a couple weeks ago and the speaker broke loose from the cabinet! It doesn't work at all now. It has a few nicks and scratches so I don't feel right returning it. Guess I'll have to open it up and see if I can fix it.

ZT Lunchbox Amplifier - WOW

By Bill

Comments about ZT Lunchbox 200W 1x6.5 Acoustic Combo Amp:

I bought one of these little devils to use as a "backup" to my 1965 Fender Blackface Deluxe Reverb, loaded with a JBL D120f... I used this little monster to play a gig with a 5 piece country band, a couple of weeks ago. I played the 1st set with just the internal speaker, I was AMAZED that this amp kept up with EVERYTHING I threw at it... Then, for the remainder of the show, I plugged in my JBL D120f extension cabinet and turned the internal speaker off... again it handled ANYTHING I threw at it BUT with the JBL it sounded very Full and LOUD, all the while staying CLEAN... I cannot wait for my ZT Lunchbox Cab... I fully intend to retire my 65 Blackface Deluxe Reverb and use this pair as my main gigging amp!!! I am a MEMPHIS musician and play every weekend...

Clean sound with no pre-amp.

Comments about ZT Lunchbox 200W 1x6.5 Acoustic Combo Amp:

I need an amp mostly for getting together with friends and playing at parties. I wanted something small that is easy to lug and wouldn't take up too much space in the trunk when traveling. They didn't have this amp in my local GC store so I ordered online, using one of the 15% off coupons, which makes it price comparable to the Fishman Loudbox Mini, which a friend has and I have used. I also have a Line 6 Spider Jam. I have a Taylor 614CE and 714CE Ltd. Playing them through the ZT, it is clear that this amp is voiced for accurate reproduction of the guitars' tone without the need for a pre-amp. It's clearly a step above both the Fishman and the Line 6 in this regard. It is limited in its effects, just having reverb, but for accurate reproduction of the acoustic sound that's really all you need. It is simple to use. It stands up well against other larger amps in its class yet is so portable and light that I just don't think twice about taking it along. Just throw it in its bag and go. It is a great little unit that performs larger than its physical size.

Comments about ZT Lunchbox 200W 1x6.5 Acoustic Combo Amp:

Bought it a couple of years ago. Very pleased with sound quality for vocals and acoustic and electric guitars. I've used it repeatedly for mid-size gigs and it's amazing how that little box can fill up a hall with sound! Incredibly flexibile too - you can plug just about anything into it. My main critique is that it's so small and portable that it is easy to drop. Within the first year of use it got bumped around so much that the speaker grill would not stay on (easily solved with a strip of masking tape) and the internal/external speaker toggle switch got busted from a fall, rendering the unit unusable. For 1/8 the cost of a new unit, the manufacturer repaired it good as new - good customer service from ZT, by the way. I'd recommend getting a padded carry-case for it if you're going to be taking it out and about much.

      Great Sound? Not so much...

      By Larry Van Horn

      from Springfield, VA

Comments about ZT Lunchbox 200W 1x6.5 Acoustic Combo Amp:

I bought this because it promised great sound in something small and light. The two Guitar Centers close to my residence didn't have any in stock. So, based on the only glowing review on this site I ordered one. It takes just a couple of minutes to realize that this is not great sound. It's clean enough but no base end. It is light and small and sounds like it is light and small. I play a Tak EF261S AN which has a great Tak pream, but it can't make up for lack of sound. I ordinarily play it through a Crate CA30DG Taos Acoustic. That is a great amp, you can buy at Guitar Center for $250. It also weighs thirty pounds, three times what the ZT Lunchbox weighs. So, if being small, light and loud is good enough for your purposes, this might be OK for you. I want a full rich sound that fills the space. So, I'll just keep lugging my Crate. The ZT Lunchbox goes back to Guitar Center tomorrow.

      Small but large

      By RICK BOLDUC

Comments about ZT Lunchbox 200W 1x6.5 Acoustic Combo Amp:

I bought one of these a couple months ago.. It is pretty amazing how deep this little guy sounds for it's size... very nice tone.. I compared it in the store to two other larger acoustic amps in this class, and hands down this one sounded the best.. the clarity was something else.. like you hear all the subtleties of the strings. And it sounds good all around, not just in front of the speaker. When I plugged in my Taylor GS Mini to it, (that has no pre amp or controls on it of any kind) it sounded so good that everyone in the store, literally stopped and turned around to listen.. it sounds that good. So it has become my "throw it in the car and go" amp. Also my table top amp for goofing around.

Comments about ZT Lunchbox 200W 1x6.5 Acoustic Combo Amp:

This may be compact unit but it does not compromise when it comes to the full, rich and clean sound it produces. It is not prone to feedback, but it does have the ability to dial out the feedback if it occurs. I love the small footprint, making it convienient for travel. I also love the fact I can hook my Ipad to the assessory connection and play together with the musicl The phantom power works well, with separate controls to adjust the volume and parameters. Over all I am very satisfied with the purchase. The quality is well worth the dollars paid! I connected both an external mic using the phantom and an instrument cable to a fishman pickup. WOW! My acoustic guitar sounded so natural - a dream come true.

Hard to beat this amp or it's sibling the non-acoustic version for flexibility and convenience. I have both amps and keep them in my living room without a complaint from my better half. Takes up very little space. Great design; just the right options and capabilities. As mentioned by others, the reverb leaves something to be desired. The sound doesn't beat my PA, but its pretty darn good and I love just tucking this guy under my arm and heading to a gig or practice. Highly recommended.

Comments about ZT Lunchbox 200W 1x6.5 Acoustic Combo Amp:

I've had mine for about two years and love how portable and versatile it is. The sound is truly amazing coming from such a little speaker cabinet. Works well as a practice amp, but also does great for venues where you've got an audience of 100 people in a medium-sized hall. You can plug anything into it and away you go! The feedback filter doesn't seem to do much, but that's neither here nor there. The only problem is that since it's so small, it's easy to drop and bang up, and the internal/external speaker switch sticks out of the cabinet with no protection. After almost two years of use the fatal accident occurred; that little switch broke and now I can't get any sound. Amazingly, the chief engineer of ZT Amps answered my email within 24 hours of me contacting their tech support. He said the repair will be under $50...
