This YRG marks the next evolution of the ever popular YRG-1000 by Inspired Instruments Inc., also known as YouRock Guitar. It is yet to be beat as the first fast tracking, no latency, affordable digital MIDI guitar on the market. The YRG's patented fingerboard technology and electronics have revolutionized the way a guitar player, other aspiring musician or DJ can create, record and play music.

The YRG connects to a host of mobile devices including the popular iPad to use with GarageBand. It also connects via USB to the MAC and PC. The YRG can be used with most recording and tablature software such as Logic, Reason and Ableton to name a few. Also compatible with Legacy MIDI synthesizer devices via its 5-pin MIDI connector. This versatile instrument never needs tuning and is backpack friendly. For beginners, or, if you enjoy games like Rocksmith and RockBand, the YRG is a perfect crossover instrument to real guitar playing.

Comments about You Rock Guitar 2nd Generation MIDI Guitar:

I use this to play virtual instruments. It takes time to get used to (as most midi guitars) if i play single note melodies with it, i set my vsti to monophonic mode and yrg to tap mode and works flawlessly. I still use my keyboard midi controller for holding pad and string chords and the yrg for melodies and arpeggios (as i am primarily a guitarist) .

    Not very good..

    By allen

Comments about You Rock Guitar 2nd Generation MIDI Guitar:

Too much delay to be usable as a controller. My kid likes to play with the built in sounds. The built in interface is not very intuitive, could use some work there. If my kid didn't like to play with it (he uses it in the car with headphones on trips), I would probably return it. Maybe next version will be better.

    You Rock Guitar Gen 2

    By Gene Scott

    from Seattle, Washington

Comments about You Rock Guitar 2nd Generation MIDI Guitar:

I am relatively pleased with the YRG Gen 2. I bought it a month ago while I was on a trip to Dayton Ohio. I bought it to use as a MIDI controller with Cubase and Halion Sonic. I also figured out that the YRG is the cheapest way to get a travel guitar since the neck and the body come apart. If you are going to buy the YRG, you should not expect it to act like your traditional guitar or to be useful right out of the box. You are going to spend some time reading the manual and tweaking controls to get it to do what you want. You can go onto the YRG website and download the control panel. With the YRG connected to your computer, the control panel allows you adjust the controls much more easily than adjusting them on the guitar itself. Either way, control adjustments are burdensome. I don't see the YRG as ever being a performance instrument unless there is a way to customize presets that I haven't figured out yet. The YRG does not have real strings on the neck. This means that you can't do bends or vibrato like you do on a traditional guitar. There are ways to address this problem using the whammy bar which works as a pitch bend and by using another separate modulation control. On the positive side, since the neck consists of frets with sensors instead of applying pressure to strings, bar chords become much easier.

    Nice little powerful controller

    By Christopher Rennau

    from St. Louis, MO.

Comments about You Rock Guitar 2nd Generation MIDI Guitar:

For those who are old enough to remember this just like the Suzuki xg1m from the 80's only much better. The internal sounds are quite good and the feel of the guitar is better than it looks in the pictures. Its actually quite well built and performs amazingly accurate. Some other reviews have complained about tracking and latency; however, this is an instrument that needs to be adjusted to each players individual touch. String sensativity, volume, etc. can be adjusted via software to respond to different peoples styles of playing. It tracks just as well as the Rolands with little or no latency. The strings on the fretboard are actually rubber strips and take a little getting used to; however it does not take long, they respond to the slightest touch. I use this to sequence the guitar parts in my workstation arrangements and it gives them a human feel. If your one who is still into sequencing I highly recomend this product be a part of your studio.

Comments about You Rock Guitar 2nd Generation MIDI Guitar:

Great midi controller, chords come out clean, multiple tunings, adjustable with helpful web-site I have had other midi controllers like some Roland ones that were fun but the chords were muddy And the Yamaha and Fender gadgets had buttons I'm not much of a player YET, but I am inspired by the You tube videos and I see potential here

    Awesome

    By Colin Irwin

    from Northridge CA

Comments about You Rock Guitar 2nd Generation MIDI Guitar:

I use this in Logic and Ableton as a MIDI controller and the thing works great! It has always been difficult for me to compose with MIDI since I am not as proficient with keyboard as with guitar, but this bridges that gap. Also great for traveling, you can mess around with the internal sounds through headphones to practice and come up with some new licks! Tracking and sensitivity worked great for me, make sure to mess around with the string tension and some of the internal settings to fine tune it.

I really wanted this to work

    By Michael Scalisi

    from Alameda, CA

Comments about You Rock Guitar 2nd Generation MIDI Guitar:

Bottom line, this thing just isn't responsive enough. For slow arpeggiated things, I can mostly get it to work, but forget any sort of nuance. Tap mode is better, but there is still noticeable delay, and you loose any velocity control. When fingerpicking, you have to be fairly agressive in order for it to consistently track, but then you end up losing most of the velocity range. Overall, my experience was just frustrating, and makes me feel like I'm better off just working on improving my keyboard skills.
