I've owned numerous Yamaha keyboards, starting with a PSR-640 a number of years back. Most of my playing these days is piano, but the YPG-535 does so much more. I actually had the 635, and "downscaled" to the 535 not because there was anything wrong with it, but that years of playing and typing leave me with a touch of repetitive motion issues. The graded touch of the 535 keeps me playing and loving it. Grand Piano sound is incredible, especially for the price. Sweet sounds are also excellent. The only feature I wish these Yamahas had is a true line out. As it is they make the headphone jack double as a line out. It's a bit noisier for recording purposes for that reason. Other than that, you want 88-keys, vibrant, yet softer touch keyboard, and all the sounds most folks need, pick yourself up a YPG-535.

I bought this piano TODAY and felt the need to come write a review and state why I am taking it back. First and foremost--everything about this piano is exactly what I wanted. It is easy to figure out, the piano sounds are absolutely beautiful, and I love all the extra features. HOWEVER. The left speaker rattles on low notes--badly--and it starts all the way up at A below middle C. I know the speaker isn't blown because I just bought it brand new... so this must mean that the speakers just aren't strong enough to support the actual instrument. Literally, you have to turn the piano down to about 25% in order to get rid of the rattling, and that's just too quiet for me. I'm incredibly disappointed because I loved everything else about this piano, but if I can't jam out, what's the point? I read about this problem on another review and bought the piano anyway, thinking it wasn't a big deal. But after playing it for the last 2 hours I just couldn't take it anymore. So bummed :(

Comments about Yamaha YPG-535 88-Key Portable Grand Piano Keyboard:

In fairness, I have not yet used all the features of this keyboard. I really like what I have used so far though, and I think I will like it even more when I have time to use the remaining features. That's why I rated it as a four instead of a five. It also looks great. This integrated stand is so much more stable and professional looking than the cheap stand that I used with my old keyboard. The sustain pedal is also heavier than my old one, although it still moves when it use. I used to play piano some, although it wasn't my major instrument. I have also studied music, but both were decades ago. Therefore, I really have to get re-acquainted with both the keyboard and with music in general.

Genuinely Impressed and an oustanding value

Comments about Yamaha YPG-535 88-Key Portable Grand Piano Keyboard:

I must admit that I was a bit skeptical of the sound and tactile quality of this digital piano, given the price point and my son's piano teacher's recommendation for a P-105. I am so very happy to have jumped on this deal because it offers a more immersive learning experience for him than the P-105 would have. This model was definitely designed for the novice student because of the feature set and overall design of this digital piano and the ease of system operation. It has been a lot of fun for my 8 year old son to learn who to build songs and assign sound patches to them. I really have no negative comments on this dig. piano. For less than $500, you get a Yamaha branded sustain pedal (Note that there is the only pedal jack on the rear of the digital piano.) Also, in lieu of MIDI ports, there is USB port meant for interconnection with a PC. The CD that came with the digital piano has quite a few programs and data to run on your PC.

This piano is so amazing. I am proud of my new keyboard. I love the sound eps when I connected it to my 90watt amplifier. Great sound. I am recommending this to anyone. I ,ve been playing my upright piano for years requiring tunings. Now my keyboard has the fullest sd better than an upright piano. I congratulate the engineers who created this electronic masterpiece. It will keep me happy during my retirement, and keep my wife entertained. The price is.very affordable too.

        who needs the speakers?

        By Krona Music

        from Hamptons, NY

Comments about Yamaha YPG-535 88-Key Portable Grand Piano Keyboard:

If everything is perfect except for the on-board speakers (which admittedly are a bit small for the output), why not just use headphones? I can't see why any serious keyboardist would care about the speakers anyway -- most of the time the keyboard is connected via mixer to amplified stage speakers. You certainly aren't going to perform to a 50,000 seat arena with on-board speakers. Absurd.

        Good purchase. Happy with product.

        By JAYO VERA

Comments about Yamaha YPG-535 88-Key Portable Grand Piano Keyboard:

I bought this to replace an older Casio Privia. My family has been bugging me about this for a while and I wanted to get back to playing. This keyboard fits our needs nicely...with 88, full-sized weighted keys, it feels and plays just like a real piano. The speakers are not too powerful but with the 1/4" jack output, I can run to an amp if I really want to crank it up or into an audio interface for direct recording. The MIDI Out on the rear allows me to use it as a simple controller keyboard for any virtual instruments. After formating a dedicated Flash Drive a was able to download hundreds of MIDI files and able to play them nicely on this keyboard with the option of deleting the chanels I did not like from the original songs. Great for learning. This keyboard has excellent sounds. The choir voicings sound nice, the strings sound amazingly real, and the vibraphone patch is one of the best I've ever heard. Really happy I bought this keyboard. I bought it refurbished with a very tiny scratch that is not even noticeable at a great price.

Just got this keyboard yesterday, and so far I am very impressed with it's capabilities. I'm still learning all the features available. Love the bass tones on this piano. Feels very much like playing an acoustic piano, with better sound. This piano will be perfect for the outdoor wedding I have coming up.

THIS IS MAC-COMPATIBLE. And does a LOT more than I thought. :)

        By Sean Courtney

        from Chicago, IL

Comments about Yamaha YPG-535 88-Key Portable Grand Piano Keyboard:

First and foremost, I wanted to get this review in because this is a fairly old keyboard, from 2007. It comes with PC drivers, but not Mac drivers. If you go to Yamaha's web site and look for drivers for this instrument, you will get Mac drivers that only work on older, pre-Intel PowerPC Macs. However, if you just look for Yamaha's general USB drivers, you'll get Mac drivers that WILL WORK on the latest Macs, so yes, you can use this keyboard on your brand-new iMac, MacBook, etc. on GarageBand et al; I've done it. And really, this is a great unit. If you like assembling IKEA furniture, the included stand is a DIY-put-together job, so I was thrilled. :) Sustain pedal is included, which is great -- because I could never understand people who have keyboards without 'em -- but the pedal itself is kind of lame, one of those flat plastic thingies; I actually invested $15 in another real piano-style sustain pedal that works even better. The sounds are great, and the library of voices included is obscenely huge. So many possibilities! Beware, though, if you buy this brand-new -- you will be taking apart a buttload of cardboard! Took me three trips to bring it all outside for recycling!
