I agree with one of the other reviews, the In and Out markings are very hard to read. Two, it would be more helpful if the tips were marked what you want to plug them into, not what they are from the adapter. (I have a similar product and the ends are marked CLEARLY with "TO MIDI IN" and "TO MIDI OUT".) Last thing that left me unimpressed, the last Windows OS on the install CD which came with my MIDI interface was Windows Vista. Believe it or not I'm actually using a version of Windows you can actually purchase, Windows 7. And the installation fails if you follow the directions from the CD which tell you not to plug in until asked. No, with the current installer you plug in the device and run the installed and answer all of Windows 7 protection prompts and everything then works.
To get the maximum from my P-155 Yamaha piano, i bought the UX-16 MIDI interface. The problem is... when I tried to get "Musicsoft Downloader" software... In the P-155 manual, the web address at page 50, http://music.yamaha.com/download/ seems to be obsolete because it leads to another address http://download.yamaha.com/ I Googled "musicsoft downloader" to find it. I found 3 different Yamaha sites : http://yamaha-musicsoft-downloader.software.informer.com/ https://www.yamaha.com https://www.yamahamusicsoft.com I opened 3 accounts to get this software. Finally, I found it, but while downloading MSD550.EXE, my "Webroot Secure Anywhere" paid antivirus blocked it. It flagged a trojan. I ended the things immediately. So, I sent an email to Yamaha asking for a safe download link. But the answer led me to the same link I found before on Google. When I clicked on it, Webroot Antivirus flagged again the trojan virus. This trojan seems to be bundled with the MSD550.EXE file. I took a chance this time, crossed my fingers and clicked on "continue...in Webroot" and it was quarantained, while the rest of the download continued. I installed the program and rescanned the machine: it showned clean, but the trojan was in the quarantained section. I did tests and the MIDI installation was OK and working..... but it took 3 days for the setup: checking, searching, emailing, scanning, waiting and getting mad about all this... Conclusion: 1) Yamaha should have ONE and ONLY ONE main door web address to eliminate confusion, and review their sites completely for security and merge all them into a single one. 2) MusicSoft Downloader should be located on the UX-16 MIDI interface installation disk along with the driver. 3) People at Yamaha's email support help seems not to be aware of anything about bugged MSD550.EXE 4) The web sites are not user friendly. Still searching for the PDF musicsoft downloader instructions in all this mess... Hope my feedback will help buyers for decisions A. Barr Retired electronic tech
I had to call tech support to figure out which connector was In and which was OUT. Using a flashlight and magnifying glass and guided by the tech support person, IP was finally able to read OUT (I couldn't never read IN but one was all I needed). For a cable that costs $50=, the user ought to[ be able to[ read IN and OUT with much more ease. Wtihout knowing tha the cable is usleless.
I had an older Yamaha TG-300 system, w/ keyboard controler..never did get it to work with a computer system, untill I bought the UX-16. I did though, have to download the current driver, because I use the iMac with the mountain lion OS..... Apon connecting the cables "correctly", and downloading the newest driver in place. I turned everything on, an to my extreme pleasure, I heard sound from the speakers (self-powered) for the first time..and using finale, was able to input the notes with the piano keyboard, instead of the mouse and computer keyboard...whoo hooo. Composing and Arranging music will be much faster from here forward...Thanks Yamaha.
The Yamaha UX16 USB MIDI Interface worked flawlessly the first time I installed the driver. Within 10 minutes I was able to record music from my keyboard. I highly recommend this item especially if you have a Yamaha keyboard. I experienced a problem yesterday however I reloaded the drivers and the problem went away. Excellent product.
