Comments about Yamaha Tour Custom 5 Piece Fusion Floor Shell Pack:

This particular kit has numerous voids in the bearing edges; some filled flush to the surface and some not. No gaskets were used between the lug casings and the shells. Therefore, the floor tom rattled with medium play. I just bought a 2012 Mapex Saturn kit, new, for about 12% more than the Yamahas and it smokes the Yammies in every category.

      Yamaha Maple Kit Rocks

Comments about Yamaha Tour Custom 5 Piece Fusion Floor Shell Pack:

I love the 17" deep bass drum. . .smaller footprint than the now-standard 18" depth. My 12" tom sounds great with a double-ply head, but I found the 16" floor sounds better with a single-ply. Snare is fine but I have a little aluminum snare I favor so the wood snare that comes with kit has been set aside for now. I prefer a white reso head on the bass to black, but that's a minor issue. What else? Well, this is a great little kit and I'm glad to have got it back in hand. I'm going to go play it now.
I got a four-piece version of this kit (22 12 16 14) and love it so much I bought it back from a guy who bought it off me. Everything is cool here except some people might find the arm on the tom post too short. . .Yamaha makes a longer version. This problem may be solved with the double tom holder, not sure.
Yamaha is more known for birch drums, but either way, they know how to make drums. These are simply beautiful in lacquer finish and very well constructed.
For a mid-level kit, these drums are a bit high. . .but compared to Yamaha's top lines, which run into the mid four figures, these are a good value. If you take care of them, they could be the last drums you ever buy. . .MORE than adequate for the working musician. . .you would be proud to take these on a gig, and they would hold up to regular work.
