The Right Bass (TRB)

By Leo "G2" Fender

from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about Yamaha TRB1004 4-String Electric Bass:

I have been playing guitar for over 35 years and finally decided to pick up a bass for use when I do some recording in my home studio. My musician friends all love and own old Pre Ernie Ball Music Man Stingrays and Sabres but that would be overkill for my needs. This bass was perfect. The active pickups are quiet, clean, and have punch without the muddy sound. I can dial up a variety of different tones for direct recording without any pedals or processors. I have always preferred thinner necks on my guitars so this neck is perfect for me. It plays very easily with no fret buzz and good intonation. Not terribly resonant as far as the wood goes.Still, it has good sustain. It did need a setup out of the box. Plastic knobs and battery cover are cheap for a bass in this price range. The finish work is very good and yes, the bass is really a looker! The bass really matches up with the overkill SWR Workingmans 15 that I bought. I'm sure the neighbors are loving my new purchase! This is not an investment instrument but I couldn't see ever selling it anyways. If you want an easy playing, good sounding instrument and look good doing it...buy this bass.

Perfect Package

Comments about Yamaha TRB1004 4-String Electric Bass:

I have owned a number of basses since I bought my first one in 1970. The EB3... Classic. However, as time has gone by my moods have changed and I switched to a semi-hollow bass, then a chambered bass, and even a headless. I picked up the TRB1004 a couple of times at Guitar Center and loved it. I started taking my lunch breaks just to play this bass. Right around the same time two major bass magazines write terrific reviews of this 35 scale beauty... and it is a beautiful bass with fit and finish of basses much more expensive. So, I've been working this bass out now for eight months and it has surpassed my expectations. Whether playing classic rock, blues or Christian music I have always been able to dial in exactly the tone the song calls for. Sound-guys love me because I can give them the old EB low-end, great mids, play funk...slapping's not a problem, or play very clean melodic lines when called for. This one is a keeper... My guitar playing son will inherit this axe.
