The Yamaha THR5A acoustic modeling combo amp offers simulations of classic tube condenser and dynamic mics combined with studio-grade effects to create recording-studio tone direct from your guitar wherever you are. The THR5A offers four acoustic mic simulations and one clean amp modeling for electric guitar. Most of the effects feature VCM processors for serious realism. Extended Stereo Technology creates an incredibly wide, spacious sound with depth unimaginable from such a small enclosure.
Cubase AI, THR Editor and USB connectivity make it great for recording and editing. The brilliant look is finished with Virtual Tube Illumination that simulates an orange tube glow from the metal speaker grille so it looks as amazing as it sounds.

Excellent Amp for Acoustic and Electric guitars. It is small but very nice enhanced stereo sound, plenty for practice, recording or a nice sized room. Very customizable sound includes Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Tremolo, Tape Echo, Echo/Reverb, Spring Reverb, Hall Reverb, *Compressor and *Noise Gate (*only available in THR Editor. THR Editor can be downloaded from Yamaha site. It comes bundled with Steinberg Cubase AI6 recording software also. The THR5A can be interfaced with your computer through a USB interface to record with the Cubase software and the THR Editor can actually setup your amp to numerous presets for a variety of different effects and sounds. very nice stuff. Excellent! Highly recommended!
My background: just learning to play. In other words: on a scale of 1-10, I suck. So, knowing Yamaha makes very nice stuff (as I have heard someone say: any inexpensive Yamaha item is still very good quality), this item is very nice quality. I wanted to get something that was portable, had some nice FX and was reasonably priced. This unit is great. Sounds are very nice, and many different FX, sounds, features to choose from. On an acoustic or amped up Ukulele, sounds great. From an operational standpoint, each of the Yamaha TH series ARE different. So the THR5 for electrics is way different than this model (which is really for acoustics). The difference being the functions and features (same size, same price, I believe). Overall, solid construction, great engineering and thought by Yamaha. In the event you use batteries and then plug into wall, the unit automatically goes to AC source and will not run down the batteries by using battery juice. Apparently an automated mechanism inside that does this - stated in owner's manual. So this is not a technical review - really more a basic one. I can tell you that my interest in it converted a veteran GC specialist to try it - and he really liked it. I decided to buy it on my own, but if the guy at GC says it's good and he can play with anything there, well, it must be. Do not over expect for a small box, but it does put out some nice volume. I like mine and it is certainly something that you will find very practical in your stable of sounds. One final point: how many of these do you see used? Very few, not very often. Perhaps that speaks volumes (no pun intended) about the products' enjoyment by the owners.
Wanted something for at home practice, but pro side, ocasional small room performance. This is THE ONE, nothing like it, tube preamp, amazing sound for small speakers, perfect setup.
Best sound I ever heard from my flamenco guitar. This amp rocks. Did not color the sound. Reverb is awesome. Got compliments on its retro look as well. I wish it had a line out so it can go directly into the PA system. I wish Yamaha makes a 20 or 30 watt version for us Acoustic players. There is a huge market for a decent acoustic amp. I tried them all and none sounded as good as this one. Too bad it is only 5 watts but I actually got by in a small night club with it on the electric guitar setting which still kept it sounding very flamenco with a much louder voice. The compression setting really helps when I do heavy strumming. I am constantly inspired when I play through this amp. In a larger club, I just put the mic from the PA system close to and almost touching the front of this amp.
I bought this product today and it has really made my guitar's sound shine. You may be wondering why you should buy this since it's such a small amp and acoustics produce their own sound but this really just sounds that amazing. Very smooth. I play my Gibson acoustic electric out of it and I just can't stop playing.
