Overview

The Yamaha THR10 combo amp packs in everything you need from an off-stage amp. Real tube amp tone and dynamics, great sound at low volume, genuine hi-fi quality stereo playback and full recording capabilities.

Developed by a team of guitarists in search of the ultimate tone, the THR10 combo delivers the sound you want and the feeling you need. Effects that enhance and complement your playing combine with room-filling reverbs and delays to push your playing to new levels. And thanks to THR's unique design and focus, stadium-filling volume isn't a pre-requisite - everything about this amp is designed to fit the way you play, right down to the need to keep it quiet sometimes. With tone and feel like this, you'll appreciate the ability to keep playing all night.

Most of THR's effects feature VCM (Virtual Circuitry Modeling) effects processors. Based on the technology used in Yamaha's professional audio mixers, VCM effects give unsurpassed realism and quality. VCM effects are capable of capturing subtleties that simple digital simulations cannot even approach, going beyond simple simulation and delivering the truly musical performance that makes classic analog gear invaluable even in today's digital production environment.

The THR10 was developed with Yamaha's award-winning AV division to offer true hi-fi stereo sound and a new experience in guitar amplifiers. The exclusive, specially designed speaker enclosure is optimized to handle both guitar and stereo playback sounds making it uniquely capable of giving you amazing tone for both your guitar and your track from a compact, portable amp.

The THR10 incorporates Yamaha's new Extended Stereo Technology to create an incredibly wide, spacious audio image. Stereo tracks and studio quality reverb take on a depth unimaginable from such a small enclosure. Also bundled with Cubase AI, Steinberg's professional music production application it offers full-fledged recording and editing. The THR Editor offers deep editing of amp and effect parameters using your computer. Additional in-depth controls include compressor and noise gate functions.

THR's design provides stereo playback from your smartphone or other device through its AUX jack or direct from your computer via the USB connection. The user memory function lets you save up to five amp settings of all controller and switch settings for quick recall. The tap tempo function allows you to quickly set delay time. A built-in chromatic tuner features accurate, stable tuning and an easy to read display.

Finally, the THR10's Virtual Tube Illumination includes a simulated orange tube glow from the metal speaker grille.

Simply Awesome!

By RYAN LAWSON

from Roscoe, IL

Comments about Yamaha THR10 Modeling Combo Amp:

So much BIG sound from something so small. Great effects and stereo separation. The "hall" reverb is like nothing I've ever heard. The battery or AC powered feature combined with its small size and light weight allow it to be taken anywhere - from campfire to tour bus! Five stars all the way!

Comments about Yamaha THR10 Modeling Combo Amp:

I've owned several Twins in the past, and currently use POD HD500x when playing live. I wanted something small, lightweight and that I could quickly plug into for noodling around at home. This little amp sounds so good, I wish I could use it to play live. I know that isn't the practical use for it as it doesn't have foot switch capability or the volume needed for a venue of any size, but I could see someone using it in something small like a coffee house. I've only been running it between 40-60% master output volume at home, plenty loud enough with a great saturated tone. A lot of modern equipment has aux input for mp3 or whatever, but I like that this amp has a separate volume for the aux, it makes for an easy mix. I play several different guitars and styles, so this amp provides a lot of versatility and I can draw great sounds regardless of what I am playing (Strat, Tele, '64 Guild Hollowbody, EVH Wolfgang, and a few others)
It is easy to use, you can save a few presets and easily recall them. It also has channels for acoustic, bass, and a flat input. The flat input was a big selling point to me, as I said I use a POD pedal board rig. So using the flat input with my POD allows me to tweak the live rig and hear what it sounds like without having the output tones modified or colored by a guitar speaker and preamp.
There is a software editor, I've checked it out a bit, but it is so easy to adjust from the knobs, it isn't really necessary unless you want to adjust the speaker configuration or compression or something like that. The software editor is definitely more user friendly and easy to use compared to the POD software. That is really what I was looking for, plug and play. Twiddle a few knobs and have it sound fantastic.

Comments about Yamaha THR10 Modeling Combo Amp:

I'm always looking for ultimate versatility and I can honestly say I have never found a more versatile amp.
Most importantly, you will be able to achieve any basic sound you are looking for with this little amp. Ultra clean, super high gain or mid range crunch are all set up to sound perfect right out of the box.
the amp truly reacts differently when you play with the different levels of volume and when you want to play loud it's actually surprisingly loud enough to fill a room. Not loud enough to play with drums (haven't tried that yet so I could be wrong) but it's quite astonishing how the sound sweetens with volume just like a tube amp.
I've owned vintage fenders. Low watt marshalls, and 100 watt all tube half stacks and I can truly say that if I mic'd this thing properly I'd probably be happier with its tone than anything I've owned.
The Lead channel accompanied by a fulltone soul bender got me the truest early zeppelin tone I have ever achieved.

        Perfect for my needs...

        By Jeremy Dean

        from Austin, TX

Comments about Yamaha THR10 Modeling Combo Amp:

I used to play quite a bit when I was younger and recently found myself wanting to pick it back up. I held on to my guitars, but sold my amps and most of my pedals. When looking for a new amp I wanted something that would be compact and still be fairly versatile. I got this and more from this amp. The tones and sounds you can get from this little guy are amazing. I'm a former metal head and I was blown away by the balls this thing has (though the gain can get a little muddy). It also has incredible depth and clarity on some of the other channels. Keep in mind that I am just a weekend hack. I wanted something I could put on my desk and plug in when I have a few to pick around. The fact that I can hook up my ipod when not plugged in to a guitar is definitely a bonus. With the software and apps yamaha offers, I feel like I've only scratched the surface with this amp can do. I bought this amp at the Round Rock location and was very glad I stopped by. Ricky, the guitar manager and the rest of the staff (esp. Cameron) were extremely helpful and courteous. I'll be back.

        Easily Transportable Practice Amp

        By john

Comments about Yamaha THR10 Modeling Combo Amp:

I purchased this thing on a July 4th Sale. Local out the door price was better than anything found on line. The THR10 is light weight and moves easily from home to remote practice sessions. The sound output quality for electric and acoustic/electric guitar is quite good. Can easily enjoy this amp at distances of 50 feet. The Yamaha THR10 is a nice piece of equipment. Get one.

        Very Good Practice Amp

        By Todd Zimmerman

        from Kalamazoo, MI

Comments about Yamaha THR10 Modeling Combo Amp:

"Third Amp" is the perfect name for this amp. It isn't a a replacement for your gig or studio amp. But it's great for practice with headphones at night. Unlike other amp modelers, since this is an actual amp, it feels like your playing a amp. The speakers are amazingly good for the size, but seem a bit harsh to my ears. The variety of tones is useful, although slightly limited, but the editing software that comes with the amp actually gives more tone shaping options which greatly expand the capabilities of the amp. There are controls for a compressor, more reverb options and more controls over effects and cabinet selection. While the unit is somewhat costly, it is well built, sounds good, looks cool and interfaces with the computer, so it is good value for money.

        Wow!

        By BRIAN

        from Salt Lake City, Utah

Comments about Yamaha THR10 Modeling Combo Amp:

I never give 5 star ratings for anything, until now that is. Yamaha accomplished what I was beginning to think would never happen in my lifetime. They made a solid state practice amplifier with the warmth and subtleties of a large tube amp. It used to be that if you wanted a tone that sounded distorted when you played hard but sounded clean when you played soft (and do it instantly without changing the amp channel or settings), it had to be a tube amp. Solid state amps just couldn't do it, until now! This amp sounds so amazing. All the amp setting and all the effects sound great. The range of different styles you can mimic is astounding. I can get AC/DC style crunch, heavy metal distortion, country twang, mellow jazz, folksy acoustic, rockabilly, modern clean and crunch sounds like The Police, U2, R.E.M etc. and on and on. I believe the THR10 is the most versatile of the 3 available Yamaha practice amps and is the one to get if you like lots of different music styles. However, if you only play classic rock and blues you would likely find the THR10C better. If you only play hard rock and heavy metal get the THR10X. As other reviewers have said, this is a practice amp. It won't compete with a drummer without other equipment attached (though that can be done as the headphone jack can be used as a line out). But finally, finally, finally you can have a practice amp that sounds good. You no longer have to sacrifice tone to play at lower volume.

Comments about Yamaha THR10 Modeling Combo Amp:

This product is really cool, a fun toy. Solid feeling and very portable. Check out Soren Anderson's demo of the THR10. There's a lot of area to experiment with clean tones, but also great GnR, AC/DC sounds and I guess a whole lot more. I also like the modern amp model. I have the amp sitting on a shelf at ear level, in a closed space, so sounds great. I don't see it as a room filling amp, unless maybe a small room and playing by yourself for a few people.

I don't have the tube amps to compare them to, but the distortion or crunch sounds just as good as what you'll hear in a recording. There is no disk for the Cubase but instructions on how to get it.

Amp for band practice. Enough power to compete without blowing your ears out. Enough simple effects for practice without needing to carry and set up a bunch of junk. My band mates were amazed at the tone. The gain, delay and reverb are great. You just twist a knob to suit your needs. If you can't get what you need with this amp you're trying too hard.

            from Mckenzie, TN

Comments about Yamaha THR10 Modeling Combo Amp:

Alright so here's the deal. I love this little amp. But I have two problems with it. First problem is that the distortion can get a tad bit muddy the louder you crank it. But this is something that I didn't run into until I started really cranking the volume. Second problem is that when I have it running on battery power, it shuts off when you turn it up and start playing. It only happens when I have the master volume up on 10 and the guitar output on 7. That's the highest it can go without just shutting off. But this is only when I have the battery power running. The rest of the time it goes fine. But overall, this is an awesome amp. I had my main amp go out while I was on a 9 day tour with my college choir. I was running through a 75 watt Peavey vypyr and it got a short in the power switch. So I had to get something fast and it couldn't take up very much room because we were pretty much out of room on the bus. So I picked this up in Chattanooga and just mic'd it for the rest of the tour. I haven't even bothered to get my main amp fixed yet because this does the job so well. It's definitely a good buy.

I run my Les Paul or Strat through it and the sounds are wonderful. Best of all, my wife likes the fact taht I am not shaking the house apart with the other amps because I can use headphones. Buy this baby and you will not be disappointed.

Comments about Yamaha THR10 Modeling Combo Amp:

I have a toddler at home and most of my playing time is when he's sleeping so I needed a quiet option for playing guitar. I've tried a few other amp modelers and a few different software modelers but none of them really did it for me. This one does the trick beautifully. With the editor software open it amazing how much you can tweak it until the tone is just right. Best of all once you've got your tone nailed down you can save it as a preset. So far I've used the clean, crunch, lead, and bass settings and have achieved good results with each. The effects are also very good. The plate and hall reverbs are great. My only complaints are that when using it as an audio interface it sometimes gets pings and pops (it works better if I run a stereo splitter out of the headphone jack into my Tascam audio interface) and a direct out would be nice.

Comments about Yamaha THR10 Modeling Combo Amp:

This amp is a diamond in the rough. In a market full of modeling amps that just don't sound musical, this amp is the beacon of light in the darkness of solid state technology. My hat is off to Yamaha, for they have truly created a musician's tool, a portal that will allow the things you play on your guitar to take life and form in sound waves, and exist outside of your mind. This amp is amazing. I really love this amp for what it is. A home practice amp that will do just about everything you throw at it, and then some. The speakers don't have the biggest bottom end, but you would be surprised at how full sounding they really are. Definitely go and check one out!

Comments about Yamaha THR10 Modeling Combo Amp:

I've had my THR for just 24 hours and I am massively impressed. My main reason for buying the amp was to have something that would work out fairly well for recording, but since I was moving and my half stack and tubed combo would be too loud for my studio apartment, I was even more intrigued by the THR. This thing is small, but it packs a mighty punch at 10 watts. I've installed the THR editor software to my computer and have been messing with that for the past few hours, and I'm even more impressed at the functionality it has and offers. The only thing I would think that it could be cool to have are some sort of stompbox simulations, like a fuzz or overdrive unit, but even then I'll just go to the editor and tell the amp I want it to be a heavily distorted sound with a 1x10 speaker, and it gives me a fuzzy tone. Having the ability to plug a bass and/or an acoustic into the amp is another great thing, and you do have presets specifically for those in the editor as well. If I was to ever take this thing anywhere, I wouldn't have any issues with weight, as it weighs virtually nothing, and has amazing battery life to it. All in all, a very solid practice amp and (in my case) an ideal home recording amp.
