Overview

This Yamaha Stage Custom birch drum shell pack is also great for the beginner or the working professional. The staggered diagonal seam allowed Yamaha to build a thin drum shell that will start round and stay round. The low-mass lugs lets the shell vibrate for superb tone and sustain. Yamaha's Air Seal System used for drum shell construction ensures each and every Yamaha drum shell is of uniform thickness and is perfectly round to achieve superior tone quality and durability.

Features a beautiful high-gloss lacquer finish. Hardware and cymbals sold separately.

Comments about Yamaha Stage Custom Birch 5-Piece Shell Pack with 22" Bass Drum:

I've used this kit for everything for gospel, rock, reggae, blues, jazz, funk,...and it fits right in. These shells are 100% birch and tune up very easily. I got the 20" bass drum (super punchy) with a 16" floor tom. I'm to stalky satisfied with this kit. The toms just sound perfect. The snare has 10 lugs and isn't the best but more than does the kohn(it's 100% birch as well). Since Yamaha doesnt make a configuration for the stage custom birch with a 20" kick and 16" floor tom the store manager at my guitar center made some magic happen for me and got me what I needed

Got good advice on this product, and I'm glad I followed it. Upgraded the stock heads, as one reviewer suggested; made a world of difference. Got Remo Vintage heads, which deliver that "fat" 50's sound. I'm ready to rock!

Comments about Yamaha Stage Custom Birch 5-Piece Shell Pack with 22" Bass Drum:

The first day the Stages Customs sounded okay. I thought things would get better but 24-hours later I couldn't get them sounding like Vinnie's on Zildjian Day in 1984 and was ready to ship them back. The third day I was in agony, full of buyer's remorse. I've owned new Ludwig, Gretsch, Mapex and DW drums before and know new kits need to be 'played in' before reaching their full sound potential.
For almost three more weeks I beat the tar out of them, putting gel clings on the Pinstripes to reduce overtones, re-tuning them several times a day. Yesterday I tweaked the tuning once again, threw away the gel, and played a set full of toms singing so sweetly I thought I'd sat down at Steve Gadd's Recording Customs by mistake! My pier & beam practice space has a hardwood floor, 11-foot ceiling and could function as a 'live' studio room. The bass drum sounds like a rumble of thunder in there, the snare a pistol crack. Big airy Ringo-type tom fills resonate with an exhilarating clarity, like Bonzo smashing out of a demolished building.
The latest Yamaha Stage Custom drums are Recording Customs in everything but name only. They have a tight studio sound, birch shells with Yamaha hardware, craftsmanship and quality. The differences are minimal: Stage Custom shells are a single ply thicker, have low mass lugs, different badges and colorful finishes not available in the newly relaunched Recording Custom line. 1.6 mm triple flange hoops come on the new RCs too. Stage Customs are made in China instead of Japan but I have no quality gripes; if the Stage Customs I got are second rate I'm more than happy to be stuck with them.
Buying an additional 8 inch rack tom and a 14 inch floor tom turned a 5-piece shell pack into a dream kit. I'm happy---my neighbors might be another story. Oh well, that's the way the bass drum beater bounces!

Comments about Yamaha Stage Custom Birch 5-Piece Shell Pack with 22" Bass Drum:

Bought these drums about two years ago and am still very impressed with the sound and quality! I've gigged this set about 50 times since then, and it has always sounded great! The only thing is change the resonant heads! It doesn't sound like much but it really makes a great difference! I use a 10, 12, 16, with a 24 kick, and I've found the best heads are Remo emperor's or vintage emperors. These sound great tuned high and low, but the snare sounds best tuned very high. Great kit, great investment. Love these drums!

            Stage Drums indeed

Comments about Yamaha Stage Custom Birch 5-Piece Shell Pack with 22" Bass Drum:

I have owned my Yamaha Stage custom for over 15 years. The drums are perfect for any style of music. The birch wood makes beautiful deep sounds for 80's rock. But the sound is also perfect for jazz venues. The stock heads must be changed to achieve the full potential of these drums. It's perfect for the beginner and the professional. If you are a drummer looking to get a professional sound with a strict budget, you cannot go wrong with Yamaha Stage Custom Drums.
