We just bought one of these in late 2009. We bought it from MF as a used return. We didn't have any gigs lined up at all and were outside of the 45 day return period. One of the subs was blown up when we hooked it up for the first time. We were pretty upset, but our fault for not testing the unit first. Even though Yamaha didn't have to honor the warranty, they did anyway and it was repaired. A local shop fixed it for us and somehow we wound up having to still pay $50, so we might as well have bought a new one. That notwithstanding, I have to say that when we hooked this up for the first time at 100% functional, it was KILLER! Lots of serious low end, and we really don't have a great amp to power it. I was excited to hear our band have this kind of low end for the first time. One of these will shake your butt just fine for most clubs. Two is pretty much overkill. I am very happy with this purchase, even through the aggravation. Even though it might be overkill, we think we still want another! Yamaha stuff is just great quality. It is hard to go wrong with their products.

      underrated speaker cabniet

Comments about Yamaha SW218V Club Series V Subwoofer:

Well....first off, I am pretty smart when it comes to pro audio and have all industry standard equipment. I see reviews stating how the sub isn't any good and can't handle power. Well, it's always better to over power a speaker than underpower it, you will have a better chance of blowing an under powered sub. I have two of these cabniets with two crown XLS2500 bridged mono at 2440 watts to each cabinet. The amp crossovers are set at bridged low, the pass filter set is at 96 htz. We have played 500 plus capacity venues and have been asked several times to turn them down. I see all the comments such as, " it isn't as good as JBL or Mackie." Well, compared to this line level sub cabinet, nothing compares to these, not Mackie nor JBL PRX series. We all know that JBL makes the VTX series, now if your packing out an arena, then that's your speaker. But also your gonna pay 2,000 for a single 12' cabinet too!!!! For the money, this has an all around great, tight sound. Also, don't be scared to match them with the dual 15 cabniets as well!

      Best Bang for your Buck

      By LOUD ENOUGH SOUND

      from Aurora, IL

Comments about Yamaha SW218V Club Series V Subwoofer:

The only reason I give the subs 4 stars is because there are better subs out there. But not for the money. However, they need power. Look at your amp ratings and figure out what kind of power you get the way you run your speakers. While they can sound good with five or six hundred watts pushing them, they come alive when you overpower these bad boys. I live around the Chicago area. I have four pairs of these with 16 of the single 15 in 2 way for mids and highs split up into four different rigs. Once I got my first complete set of two dual 18's with four 15 in tops, I had to buy more because I quickly started getting double and triple booked when word got out. For each dual 18 and each pair of 15's, I run a Behringer EP2500 at a 4 ohm bridge mono set up with the 30 hz filter and limiter switches on. That is supposed to be 2400 watts of power out of each amp, a QSC RMX2450 clone. Just a hair away from 10,000 watts of power into 4400 watts of cabs. Pro's with JBL's have complimented this rig. $1400 on amps and $2200 on cabs. Finally, what you have helps out a lot, but if you don't know how to use it, the cost and name of the equipment don't mean squat.

Comments about Yamaha SW218V Club Series V Subwoofer:

I'm using this as the sub for a system with 7 200w monoblocks for the normal range speakers in a large space (used to be a church.)

It's a great sub, particularly for large home theater systems. The upper end (near 2 khz) can be sliced off with a smart crossover selection, any good home theater system can make excellent use of this box.

The downside is that all four jacks are wired in parallel, which limits the ways the box can be driven. As supplied, it's a 4 ohm box, most likely two 8 ohm drivers in parallel. Be nice to be able to drive it with two amps, one per driver, at 8 ohms. You'd get about 1/3 more power into it, and at less strain on the amp(s.) For instance, my 200w Marantz monoblock can put 300w into 4 ohms. So with one of these amps, 300 watts is it. Split into two 8 ohm drivers, that'd be 200 watts per driver for 400 watts total. Well within the box's capabilities, 33% gain in drive, yet easier on the amps.

PS - don't believe anyone who tells you that you need a KW to get good bass out of this box. Not so. At 300 watts, you achieve 3db going to 600 watts, and another 3db going to 1200 watts. There's not a lot of benefit in that, and as far as accuracy goes, these subs are just as accurate at lower wattages as they are at high ones. If that wasn't the case, it'd be a mass of distortion. Drive it at 300-500 and you're golden. Trust me. My house sounds like a club!

Great sounding sub. I'm using just one of these right now and it sounds really good. I'm pushing it with one side of a crown macro tech 3600 (1560 watts @ 4 ohms) using an Allan and Heath mixer and Ashly EQ and crossover...sounds freakin phenomenal. I cross it over at 90hz and run full range Yamaha sv115's for tops...I love the way my system sounds. Using a beta52a for kick...just awesome. I'm getting another as soon as I can afford it.

Great addition to my Low End

      By Woody Dhaiti

      from NYC

Comments about Yamaha SW218V Club Series V Subwoofer:

I just got a pair of these to reinforce my low end. And it sound Grrreat!!! I have them each hooked up to a crown xti 1000 bridge at 1400watts @ 4ohms and they hit hard. They exceeded my expectations. A bit on the heavy as far as weight goes. But when you hear them it makes it worth the "weight". Overall, solid product I would recommend buying one or two if looking for Low end reinforcement, or looking to add some low end to your rig. Either way you'll be pleased. The price on these makes it a steal.

      Decent Subs

      By Zachary Sprott

      from Medford, OR

Comments about Yamaha SW218V Club Series V Subwoofer:

I'd have say say this dual cab is decent. I'm only running 4 tops at 475 watts each so it doesn't have to compete with much, but that small setup it works great. I'm feeding it off of an epx2000 bridged and it does nicely. I think a pair of these off an xti4002 will be plenty for shows under 800 people.
