Overview

The Yamaha SLG110S Steel String Silent Guitar lets you practice with headphones, yet enjoy the realistic sounds of an acoustic instrument. The steel-stringed Yamaha silent guitar features a lightweight maple body, mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard, and breaks down quickly to fit into the included gig bag for easy transport.

The silent acoustic-electric guitar has mini-stereo inputs for plugging in a MP3 or CD player for play-along. The Yamaha acoustic-electric guitar interfaces well with acoustic-effects processors, P.A.s and amps. Also includes a durable gig bag.

Silent design makes it perfect for home use or practice
Compared with a normal acoustic guitar the Silent Guitar "acoustically" produces only 1/100th the amount of sound energy and 1/10th the amount of sound volume (tested in-house). Such excellent silent characteristics make it great for playing anytime or anywhere.

Built-in DSP effect adds the richness of reverb
Electronics include L.R. Baggs pickups and an internal DSP. The digital effects taken from the class-leading SPX studio effects and industry-standard digital mixing consoles developed by Yamaha Commercial Audio, audiophile quality and the ambience of a warm, small room or luxurious large hall are with you wherever you are. 4 effects are avavailable; Reverb1, Reverb2, Chorus and Echo.

AUX IN lets you play along with your favorite recordings
Connect a CD or cassette player, etc. to the AUX IN jack and play along with your favorite recordings. This feature is a great way to improve your playing quickly. An AUX volume control offers greater control over sound balance.

Detachable frame offers comfort and easy transport
The Silent Guitar's unique design offers excellent comfort and support even when played while seated. A cutaway design provides full access to the upper frets. The upper frame detaches from the main body and fits, along with the rest of the guitar, neatly into a compact case that makes carrying easy.

head-turning guitar with great sound

By Majid Shaikh

from Pune, MH, India

I bought this guitar last year around the same time from Guitar Center, San Diego. I have been playing for around 15 yrs and mostly clean electric guitar (strat). I got to know about this guitar from a Great guitarist here in India (Susmit Sen). I loved the sound already. I play it on amp, microphones.. the sound and piezo is nice. the inbuilt effects are best with earphones. Little high on action but better then usual acoustic guitars. Light or medium gauge strings will work wonders. Neck is very smooth and good for soloing. Overall the guitar looks great on stage. It easy to travel with it and comes with a perfect gig bag. I live in India and ordered this guitar by calling the store manager. He was extremely helpful and got my order in few minutes. Later, after a month when I visited the US and went to the store to pick it up, this guy wasnt there but other staff was around and helped me get through easily! Thanks!

Very Nice Instrument

By SAM POLK

from Arlington, Tx

Bought this guitar to replace a couple of old worn out acoustics. I was a little skeptical but boy am I enjoying this guitar. I paired it with a Peavey modeling amp and having a ball with all the options of the amp and guitar together. The guitar plays great and has a good sound. Easy to hold and play. The neck is a little narrower than I am used to so will take some time to get the fingers used to it, but that s a small thing. Buy this guitar, you won't be disappointed.

I love this thing.

By Gary Sparks

from West Hollywood, CA

If you have to play guitar the way some people just have to run everyday, you should have this guitar. I have been playing for 45 years. Besides this guitar, I own and have available to me at anytime to play: A Martin HD-35, a Martin DC-16 GTE and an Fender American Standard Stratocaster. The only reason I mention this, is that they are wonderful guitars, great sounding, easy playing, but the Yamaha is the guitar I play most often. This is not a novelty instrument. It is well made (seems bulletproof), holds tune, and is amazingly versatile. Yamaha's selling point on this guitar is the earphone jack and the built in reverb so you can practice making only string noise. But you are hearing a piezo-pickup produced tone, and thats that. But? run this through a pedal board of your favorite effects and plug into a practice amp and you have your rainbow of tones. You will not get this thing to sound 'acoustic' or really even 'electric', but it sounds great anyway. I have had mine for 7-8 years and I love it. If there is one drawback, it would be the battery life. It seems to go faster then on your regular acoustic-electric, especially if you use the built in reverb. But it actually has an input for 9v power, so you can use a plug in power supply, if battery life is going to be a problem for you.

wasn't sure at first....

By James Jobson

from Viriginia

I'll start by saying I order on of these through Amazon first. Problem #1, it was raining like crazy the day it was dropped at my door. I know it?s got a lot of carbon on it for an acoustic, but there is still a fair amount of real nature wood and I was very concerned about all the moisture. BIG Problem #2, the darn thing was in pieces when I opened the box and not from poor handling during shipping. This thing just wasn't put together right at the factory. Poor quality control at Yamaha...I got my refund from Amazon and then headed to the guitar center website. Now I have been looking at travel guitars for quite a while because I do a fair amount of travel for my job and want to have something with me when I go. I just couldn't see buying one of the other options out there, though I really do like the baby Taylor. I think I will purchase my daughter one next year to start learning with, and steal it whenever I feel the need :) Now time for the real review: - Delivery to guitar center store - PERFECT!! - Customer service at store - PERFECT!!! - Guitar quality ? PERFECT!!! (No defects this time) Adjusting the sound to me a few minutes to try and get the hang of but the sound is really good. The action is set at a nice level and the neck is smooth moving up and down. I played allot in for about 5 years 10 years ago, but have lost allot that I had back then. This is giving me the opportunity to play well into the night with my wife sitting in the same room and not being a real bother to her. (Unless I really get going, then the string noise gets a little loud, but only as much as a regular electric would be.) The audio in is a cool feature that I really like, makes playing along allot of fun. Sounds like I?m right in the middle of the show. My only annoyance is the number of cables. 1 for wall plug (if no battery), 1 for headphones, 1 for guitar tuner, and 1 audio in. All said, I really love the guitar and think it was a good value for my needs.

JUST BEAUTIFUL

By William Leclaire

from SANTA CRUZ CA

I own several high end acoustics, yes, they are rated as THE BRAND TO OWN and they are incredible sounding acoustics....but so is THIS! This Yamaha is a fine instrument worthy of any collection. I saw Lee Ritenour playing a nylon string version silent guitar IN CONCERT and it sounded GREAT so I got one and sure enough, it SOUNDS GREAT! In fact I was so satisfied that I purchased the steel string model recently and it SOUNDS GREAT! (even with headphones) A truly worthy addition that ranks with the best acoustics out there sound wise. This guitar also plays great - no issues of any kind - no buzz, hums of any kind and came with a perfect string height setup...no mods required at all. I play this through a Acoustic AG60 60W 2x8 Acoustic Guitar Combo Amp and the sound is excellent! (great amp) If you're looking for Great Sound, playability and uniqueness, this guitar is a true bargain. GREAT SOUND and terrific features in a high quality, unique package that is FAR LESS $ than a fine acoustic that sounds this good would normally cost. You really can't go wrong with this instrument in my view. The included effects are perfect and they sound as good as a rackmount or quality stomp box effects unit. I have owned many excellent guitars and this model is testament to the excellent craftsmanship Yamaha puts into their pro quality guitars. Well Done Yamaha!

Fantastic guitar!

By Mike Carlie

from Springfield, MO

I've been playing guitar (acoustics and electrics) for nearly 53 years - all styles. This Yamaha SLGs (steel string, not the nylon/classical model) is a wonderful instrument. Played through the included earphones (very good quality), the guitar sounds terrific - full, rich with a lot of sustain. The various digital settings (reverb, chorus, etc.) are perfect, sound great and make playing even more fun. I'm finding that using it with batteries last longer than the predicted 13 to 20 hours per battery (one one 9V battery needed). The neck feels very good - 1960s Gibson contours with a rosewood fretboard, medium and very well crafted frets with action between that of a Fender American Deluxe Strat and a Taylor acoustic - nice! The tuners are very sensitive allowing for highly accurate tuning and they are strong - keeping the strings in tune for long periods of time. The frame, while a little irritating at the forearm (where the forearm crosses the lower bout it's kind of sharp and can start to hurt after an hour or so), is strong and, obviously, quite attractive. The saddle, while not compensated, plays like one that is. Very accurate and high, so if you want even lower action it might be possible to lower the saddle. The LR Baggs system is great offering control over volume, bass and treble and it is very quiet - no white noise whatsoever. If you're considering a guitar for rehearsing, composing or just for playing while you stroll around the house or the campsite, get this guitar. It breaks down to fit into the upper compartment of an airplane (or easily in your car's trunk with everything else you might be hauling on a vacation) and comes complete with a nice gigbag, A/C adapter and cord (if you want to plug into wall power) and a strap for slinging the bag over your shoulder. This guitar is a very good buy for the money.

A very nice guitar

By Joelheck

from The Villages, FL

First off GC was excellent in their ordering and shipping of this guitar. In playing several gig's now with the SLG, it has great tone through my Bose L1 Compact, with a T1 mixer. I was pleasntly surprised at the good action and playability, after several people complained about it. Mine plays just fine. This has become my 2nd favorite, next to my Larravee Acoustic which is my standard for acoustic and pickup playing.

Great traveler Guitar with a good sound

By Joe B

from Los Angeles, CA

I originally bought a Traveler Guitar EG-1 and found the body to be way too small to rest on your leg to play so I traded it in for this Yamaha SLG110S Steel String Silent Guitar. This just fits better. I realize that one is an electric and this is an acoustic but I like the sound and feel of this one much better not to mention that it looks pretty cool also. It will turn heads. This will not replace you acoustic but it is a great travel guitar that you can carry on a plane and put in the overhead with no problem. Not to mention it has some very cool on board effects.
