Overview

The Yamaha SLG110N Silent Acoustic-Electric Guitar lets you practice with headphones, yet enjoy the realistic sounds of an acoustic instrument. The nylon-stringed Yamaha silent guitar features a lightweight maple body, mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard, and breaks down quickly to fit into included gig bag for easy transport. In comparison to a traditional classical guitar, the SLG110N's slimmer neck and lower action allow the player to develop a quicker and more aggressive style.

The silent acoustic-electric guitar has mini-stereo inputs for plugging in a MP3 or CD player for play-along. The Yamaha acoustic-electric guitar interfaces well with acoustic-effects processors, P.A.s and amps. Also includes a durable gig bag.

Silent design makes it perfect for home use or practice
Compared with a normal acoustic guitar the Silent Guitar "acoustically" produces only 1/100th the amount of sound energy and 1/10th the amount of sound volume (tested in-house). Such excellent silent characteristics make it great for playing anytime or anywhere.

Built-in DSP effect adds the richness of reverb
Electronics include piezo in-bridge B-Band (EMF) pickups and an internal DSP. The digital effects taken from the class-leading SPX studio effects and industry-standard digital mixing consoles developed by Yamaha Commercial Audio, audiophile quality and the ambience of a warm, small room or luxurious large hall are with you wherever you are. 4 effects are avavailable; Reverb1, Reverb2, Chorus and Echo.

AUX IN lets you play along with your favorite recordings
Connect a CD or cassette player, etc. to the AUX IN jack and play along with your favorite recordings. This feature is a great way to improve your playing quickly. An AUX volume control offers greater control over sound balance.

Detachable frame offers comfort and easy transport
The Silent Guitar's unique design offers excellent comfort and support even when played while seated. A cutaway design provides full access to the upper frets. The upper frame detaches from the main body and fits, along with the rest of the guitar, neatly into a compact case that makes carrying easy.

Great Instrument

By Mark

Comments about Yamaha SLG110N Nylon String Silent Guitar:

I needed a guitar to practice my fingerstyle technique without disturbing others in my house. This guitar surpassed my expectations. Not only can I practice with it, but it sounds great through headphones or with an amp. In addition, it has built in effects which makes practice more enjoyable. Definitely one of the best purchases that I have made!

No question, this guitar is my favorite.

By CONRAD

Comments about Yamaha SLG110N Nylon String Silent Guitar:

I have owned 3 acoustics and 7 electrics along with 8 basses and I will readily tell you that this wonderful guitar has become my favorite! After seeing/hearing Lee Ritenour play this instrument on a Youtube (Night Rhythms), I decided I really ought to have one. But extremely tight financial pressures kept my dream at bay for about 2-1/2 years. Finally, with funds in hand, I ordered one. What a great sounding & playing guitar. At first I wasn't sure that I could get acclimated to the "rubbery-feeling" nylon strings, and I'm not where I want to be in that area, but after a week I'm starting to 'get it'. There are no adjustments for the neck (a classical guitar tradition?) but the action is exquisite. The workmanship is flawless and it just plain feels good to play. It only weighs 3 pounds and I think my leather strap weighs more than the instrument, but that is NO problem. I play this using my headphones and it sounds great. I play this through my small sound system and it sounds great. I play this through my bass amp and it sounds great. The tone is absolutely perfect for bossa nova tunes - sweet and mellow, but with a nice edge when you dig in. I would recommend this instrument for ANY guitarist who has an interest in jazz! Gotta go, these chops don't develop themselves do they? nd When I heard it in my own hands

More than the answer to a 'Travel Guitar'

By les

from Brookings, Oregon

Comments about Yamaha SLG110N Nylon String Silent Guitar:

I owned a different brand travel guitar before and was so unimpressed I ended up getting rid it. When I ordered the Yamaha Silent Guitar,I was somewhat skeptical. On receiving this guitar, I was pleasantly surprised, this is one of the bests solution out there for a portable/travel guitar. The quality is simply amazing, no corners cut here!. Great sounding through headphones and amp. I've had this guitar for a couple of weeks now and I'm totally satisfied with my purchase. My rating is on the guitar and not the FREE earphones as I've seen in other reviews on the web. The action and playability out of the box was set just right for my finger style playing. I would recommend to guitar to anyone looking for a travel guitar. While it's on the higher price range it's well worth it. It's a keeper... well done to Yamaha for being such great innovators! Five stars all round GC and Yamaha!

Well made guitar!!!

By JAMES H MORELAND

from Grapevine, TX

Comments about Yamaha SLG110N Nylon String Silent Guitar:

I bought this guitar to give me a nylon string option and a guitar to practice on. When I unpacked it and put it together I was amazed at the construction and quality of this guitar! The Japanese craftsmen at Yamaha are extremely meticulous and creative! I love the electronics that are built-in also. This guitar is mostly a neck and I love the way it plays! I put on my ear buds and play silently. During the day I keep it on a guitar stand and I keep picking it up and strum - fingerpick - strum - fingerpick most of the day! With hard tension strings it really gives me a workout and has helped me to overcome some physical issues with my thumbs! I saw Lee Ritenour on a YouTube video playing one of these and he had a big smile. Now I know why!!! This is a really good option for a great price!!!

perfect practice guitar

By guitarTraveller123

Pros

  • Plays Like Full Body
  • Very compact

Cons

  • sound needs improvement

Best Uses

  • Silent Practice
  • Travel Guitar

Comments about Yamaha SLG110N Nylon String Silent Guitar:

The guitar is well made with good quality case. It should fit in an aircraft overhead no problem and there is plently of room for full-size headphones and music in outer pocket of case. The proportions are good and it feels very much like a full-body guitar when played in the classical position. The action is very much like other Yamaha classical guitars I have played. My only complaint is that the amplification of the bass strings can cause some buzz in the headphones (I am using high quality Bose headphones so the problem is related to the guitar electronics not the headphone). I don't know whether the problem is with the pickup or the amplifier; I have only played the guitar with the headphone jack. The reverb and chorus effects are fine for practicing. Overall, this is a really useful practice guitar and the only travel guitar that I have found to be practical for flying and practicing in hotels.

Exceptional!!! Well Done, Yamaha!!!

By Guy Catalano

from Los Angeles

Comments about Yamaha SLG110N Nylon String Silent Guitar:

I have been playing nylon/classical guitar (non-professional intermediate) for over 40 years and own a 53-year-old Goya and a Takamine I bought in 1986, but have never ventured into any amplification for my nylons other than external mic-ing. In July of this year while visiting Piazza Navona in Rome, I heard an excellent guitarist playing with the most beautiful amplified tones, and on the oddest-but-cool--looking guitar. It was the Yamaha SLG110N. Upon my return I immediately ordered one. I was a little leery of having chosen the Tobacco Sunburst finish as some of the photos on the internet looked like it might be a cheap red-to-yellow ramp/blend. But what I got was a beautifully finished darker stain to predominantly light wood ramp. The guitar is worthy of being left out for display as it is certainly a conversation piece with a wonderful functionality.

I bypassed the included earpiece headphones and plugged in my favorite studio pair and was immediately impressed with the tones I could produce. The treble and base pots along with the effects selector (2 reverbs, chorus and echo) are very good even through an amp.

For this guitar I can truly say "well done, Yamaha". It is both an elegant and practical solution and does not compromise too much for the convenience of its portability.

I highly recommend.
Everything you need including headphones, A/C adapter and a really nice travel case. The guitar is well constructed, beautifully finished, and breaks down very easily to pack. Everything was well thought out in designing this guitar.
Well thought out and executed. The wood finishes are particularly nice on mine. The input/output and control section on the back is plastic, but very well done. Everything has easy access from the playing position. The included case is very nicely done and sturdy. I would not hesitate to travel with this guitar as carry-on on an airline.
It's a little pricey for a travel guitar, but there are others that are more expensive, but I think this one is well worth it since I would not hesitate to use it to perform with. In fact there are some very nice and serious classical performances on YouTube using this guitar. I have no regrets over the price.
