What a great bass for the price. The basswood makes it light weight. There is no neck drop, well balanced. Neck is fast and perfect. Easy to play the higher 12 through 16 frets. Really nice tones from the pickups. The best part it doesn't take a battery. Nothing bums me out more than to play an active bass and the battery goes dead. I've always played a Fender bass, and I've been through a lot of them, but this Yamaha just changed that forever. This is one great bass for the price.

I bought this guitar as a gift for my wife. When I gave it to her she started playing it right away. Then she noticed defects around one of the knobs that was cracking the finish. It was a big let down. We tried to get ahold of Guitar Center customer service but all their lines were down and their chat was turned off. We ended up emailing them but we still haven't heard anything back from them. The bass guitar itself was also not in playing condition. It hummed and buzzed a lot.

Comments about Yamaha RBX170Y 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

This bass is a great instrument, feels good and has a great tone! I've only played bass for a short time as the backup bass player at church. I was looking for a good price and great sound and this one fit the bill.

Comments about Yamaha RBX170Y 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

It will buzz when you aren't in tune, or you are to off the fret all guitars do this, but this one will be more common to pick up on that buzz. Also this is better for those kids in jazz band like in middle or high school. Because it is a very nice bass to pick up.

Comments about Yamaha RBX170Y 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

First off, I have been a paid musician for about 20 years. I play guitar, bass and piano and have recorded and gigged regularly for most of the last 20 years. I play original alternative, covers, rock, metal and jazz and have also played country and reggae in my distant past (not always bass). This bass sounds great, and has excellent fit and finish for the money. Most of all, this bass is tough. I could use this to kill a dozen zombies and it would not go out of tune. I also have a Jackson, an Ibanez and this is more durable and reliable than both of them. I have recorded many times with my first one and after 10 years of recording, gigging and general abuse, I finally killed it. I replaced it with an American Fender P lyte with top of the line active electronics, that fender did not withstand half the abuse that the Yamaha endured. My RBX 170 has now been relegated to back up duty at gigs and the occasional recording but it is always ready to fill in if I break a string during a set. This bass is unrivaled if you are looking for bang for the buck.

Comments about Yamaha RBX170Y 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

Needed a bass for a 60s garage band reunion and wasn't gonna spend a lot. Won't be playing in public so didn't need top of the line equipment. The guitar arrived within a week of ordering and was packaged just fine. Plays great right out of the box. Love the variety of tones with the pickup's. Couldn't be happier for the price.

Comments about Yamaha RBX170Y 4-String Electric Bass Guitar:

Played guitar for quite a while, but this is my first attempt to learn bass. I bought it just to use with Rocksmith, and it works great for that. The bridge pickup has a bit of static, so I just turn it down.
