Overview

The PSR-E443 offers many innovative features. The basic features for learning to play--like the Yamaha Portable Grand and Yamaha Education Suite (Y.E.S.) -- and features for when it's time to perform, like synthesizer Control Knobs for real-time control of filter, effects, and sound envelope. Powerful new Styles from different musical genres can be performed with 186 different patterns and 150 arpeggio Voices. The easy-to-use professional features and cool design set this keyboard apart in its class.

The PSR-E443 contains all of the Yamaha 'tried and true' Learn to Play features plus AUX In with advanced vocal/melody suppressor, Pattern Retrigger, Cross Fader, Control Knobs for sculpting the sound of the keyboard with huge sweeping effects, cool synthesizer arpeggiators, and over 700 built-in music sounds giving you professional tools you need to create compelling, professional-sounding music in one compact portable keyboard.

PATTERN Function
The PATTERN function puts a wealth of powerful loops and beats at your fingertips to instantly create dynamically varied music on the fly like a DJ. And, for even more authentic preformance try the new crossfade and retrigger functions.

Real-time Control Knobs and Pitch Bend
Two realtime control knobs let you filter and adjust your sound just like an analog synthesizer. The Pitch Bend wheel adjusts the pitch of the sound bringing Voices like the Sax and Trumpet to life.

755 High Quality Voices Including Super-Realistic Sweet! and Cool! Voices
The PSR-E443 includes 755 high-quality Voices, ranging from acoustic to electric instruments, featuring 5 Sweet! Voices and 3 Cool! Voices which use Yamaha's renowned advanced Voice technologies. The sound is given the final boost by the built-in 2-way speaker system with bass enhancement.

Arpeggio Function
Tap into instant inspiration with the Arpeggio function, which has been improved for smoother playability. Hold Mode and Allocated key-range free your hands, allowing you to improvise over the pattern. The 150 Arpeggio patterns adjust and morph around the notes and chords you play on the keyboard allowing for almost limitless creativity.

AUX IN
Connect an external audio player to the AUX IN jacks and play along with your favorite tunes. Advanced vocal/melody suppressor lowers the volume of vocals and melody lines of the original recordings, leaving that part open for you to play. *Depending on the song, the volume of the melody part may not be affected.

iPhone/iPod touch/iPad connectivity
Connect your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad and experience a new dimension of MIDI control with apps like Yamaha's Scale Tuner, Metronome and Visual Performer. *For iOS device connection, refer to the "iPhone/iPad Connection Manual"

Yamaha Education Suite (Y.E.S.)
Yamaha Education Suite (Y.E.S.) is an advanced set of helpful learning tools built into the instrument, letting you teach yourself how to play and perform regardless of your ability. Choose from nine step-by-step lessons for left, right, or both hands. Y.E.S. helps you master a song with ease.

World Wide Sounds Support Your Music
A rich set of ethnic sounds and scale tuning allow you to enjoy many styles of music around the world, including Latin, Indian, Arabic, African, Chinese, and more.

Music Database
Get off to a flying start - choose a song and the Music Database automatically selects the best accompaniment and Voices for you to start playing immediately.

USB to Device Terminal
USB TO DEVICE terminal on the instrument lets you load and save your settings and songs, as well as transfer data from connected devices such as a USB flash memory.

Note: This keyboard does not ship with batteries or a power supply. We enthusiastically recommend the Yamaha SK-D2 Survival Kit, which contains the appropriate power supply for your keyboard, as well as a footswitch, a set of headphones, a two-year extended warranty, rebate coupons and helpful software. #H65814

You can read everything that Yamaha has to tell you, on the marketing website. And rest assured, it is simply the best.

I almost stumbled for a Casio, due to price point and features; however, Yamaha Digital Keyboards will always stand out, over time, for the best value to grow with.

A couple of useful comments, now...

The Yamaha keyboard display, at my local Guitarcenter brick and mortar store was highly useful. Although the marketing kiosk is designed to up-sell, you should use it to decide if an upgrade, or downgrade suits your needs.

As you browse the web, you will find a major question, is the PSR compatible with Mac, and Garageband. Yes, to both. I am running a MacBook Pro, Retina, 15-inch, early 2013, 2.7 Ghz Intel Core i7, and just before upgrading to OS X El Capitan, (version 10.11) it worked flawlessly with Garageband.

This is not to say that it will not work with El Capitan. It is just that at the time of this writing, I have not re-connected my laptop with the keyboard.

Know that your current drivers will drive MIDI from the keyboard to Garageband. Look for the midi device selection in Garageband, after you "hook-up" cable from your Mac, to the keyboard. And be sure your device is selected in Garageband.

For a special treat, I blue-toothed an Auvio brand sound-bar (thru Mac). I then streamed midi thru Garageband, and sound thru the Auvio. There will be a slight delay, in sound production. Neat, none-the-less.

As I am relearning piano (for the second time on an Yamaha PSR - this is my third keyboard), I found it very useful that metronome, time signature, metronome volume, are all intelligently layed out on the keyboard interface.

Page 19 of the owners manual calls for using the "function" button - for metronome features. You might find this a little daunting. I did, at first; however found that most of my metronome needs were right there, at my fingertips.

Yamaha engineers were kind enough to consider multitasking a button, or few - to have multiple capability. This is a BIG plus.

I recommend the survival kit, as this keyboard is not packaged with a power supply. You could conceivable run it off batteries. Your mileage may vary.

My only limitation was my subsequent shopping for a bargain case. If you are truly gigging, then buy a hard shell case. If you are trying to keep your cats, or kids, from scratching your instrument, then a PADDED case is a must.

After hours of web searching, I did find what I was looking for. I see that references to other retailers are prohibited, here - so you will not find my selection easily.

I recommend you get the INSIDE measurements of your bag, and compare it to the OUTSIDE measurements of the PSR-E443. I have read that the last bag manufactured for the the previous incarnation of this PSR, just fits. too snugly if you ask me. Personally, I recommend a PADDED bag that has at least a few centimeters (or inch) of space at the width, height, and depth.

Who doesn't like a little wiggle room, if you want to pack a slim music book, or few?

I received a call almost two weeks after I ordered online. The manager said they were trying to source the keyboard from his storemail, he said the only one he had left was a floor model and wanted to know if I still wanted it. I told him as long as it wasn't damaged and everything worked, that I would be fine with it. He said he went through it him self and it was like new. When I received the keyboard, almost a month after ordering it, I saw that it is not only scratched right across the speaker and display but also has dings on the keys. Overall I am disappointed with the service that was provided.

Comments about Yamaha PSR-E443 61 Keys Portable Keyboard:

Center screen is transparent and very beautiful. The 66 sized keyboard is perfect for beginner and advanced players. The weighted keys and sound are fantastic. The chords harmonize very nice. I like it much better than my former Casio. You need to buy the power cord, otherwise the battery only lasts around 5 hours with full volume on.

I use this keyboard as a practice keyboard, and to take camping, just a beater to have around, it travels easy. But this keyboard is pretty well made and quite responsive, for the price point. What I can't understand is why Yamaha would take a very good product, and then make you buy one of the cheapest, most worthless survival kits ever made, just to get the power cord?!? How about just adding a few bucks to the price, and making the cord standard, rather than dragging your reputation through the mud, with that so called survival kit!

This key board is pretty fantastic. The keys feel nice It has loads of options and a lot of sounds to choose from. The piano sounds very good. Probably the best you can find in this price range. The only down side I found about this keyboard is the pedal that comes in "survival pack" you have to buy just to get the power supply. I can't think of any other reason they would sell the power supply separately other than they want to package it with other useless items just to make more money. ANY HOO. The pedal is a waste of natural resources and will die on you after a few days. I had mine for a whopping 2 days before it quit. if you can find a better quality pedal I would recommend doing that because the one that comes in the kit is total garbage. OH ALSO this thing can run off batteries which is pretty bad a22.

Normally I play guitar and was interested in learning to play keyboard. Has great tones and plenty of features to keep you occupied. My son and some of his friends have showed interest in keyboards now. He especially enjoys the DJ sound features! Recommend getting the Survival pack for the power supply though. Great product overall for the whole family.
