Comments about Yamaha PSR-E443 61 Keys Portable Keyboard:
Normally I play guitar and was interested in learning to play keyboard. Has great tones and plenty of features to keep you occupied. My son and some of his friends have showed interest in keyboards now. He especially enjoys the DJ sound features! Recommend getting the Survival pack for the power supply though. Great product overall for the whole family.
Comments about Yamaha PSR-E443 61 Keys Portable Keyboard:
You can read everything that Yamaha has to tell you, on the marketing website. And rest assured, it is simply the best.
I almost stumbled for a Casio, due to price point and features; however, Yamaha Digital Keyboards will always stand out, over time, for the best value to grow with.
A couple of useful comments, now...
The Yamaha keyboard display, at my local Guitarcenter brick and mortar store was highly useful. Although the marketing kiosk is designed to up-sell, you should use it to decide if an upgrade, or downgrade suits your needs.
As you browse the web, you will find a major question, is the PSR compatible with Mac, and Garageband. Yes, to both. I am running a MacBook Pro, Retina, 15-inch, early 2013, 2.7 Ghz Intel Core i7, and just before upgrading to OS X El Capitan, (version 10.11) it worked flawlessly with Garageband.
This is not to say that it will not work with El Capitan. It is just that at the time of this writing, I have not re-connected my laptop with the keyboard.
Know that your current drivers will drive MIDI from the keyboard to Garageband. Look for the midi device selection in Garageband, after you "hook-up" cable from your Mac, to the keyboard. And be sure your device is selected in Garageband.
For a special treat, I blue-toothed an Auvio brand sound-bar (thru Mac). I then streamed midi thru Garageband, and sound thru the Auvio. There will be a slight delay, in sound production. Neat, none-the-less.
As I am relearning piano (for the second time on an Yamaha PSR - this is my third keyboard), I found it very useful that metronome, time signature, metronome volume, are all intelligently layed out on the keyboard interface.
Page 19 of the owners manual calls for using the "function" button - for metronome features. You might find this a little daunting. I did, at first; however found that most of my metronome needs were right there, at my fingertips.
Yamaha engineers were kind enough to consider multitasking a button, or few - to have multiple capability. This is a BIG plus.
I recommend the survival kit, as this keyboard is not packaged with a power supply. You could conceivable run it off batteries. Your mileage may vary.
My only limitation was my subsequent shopping for a bargain case. If you are truly gigging, then buy a hard shell case. If you are trying to keep your cats, or kids, from scratching your instrument, then a PADDED case is a must.
After hours of web searching, I did find what I was looking for. I see that references to other retailers are prohibited, here - so you will not find my selection easily.
I recommend you get the INSIDE measurements of your bag, and compare it to the OUTSIDE measurements of the PSR-E443. I have read that the last bag manufactured for the the previous incarnation of this PSR, just fits. too snugly if you ask me. Personally, I recommend a PADDED bag that has at least a few centimeters (or inch) of space at the width, height, and depth.
Who doesn't like a little wiggle room, if you want to pack a slim music book, or few?
