Overview

The Yamaha PSR-E423 portable keyboard offers several innovative features. This includes the basic features for learning to play, such as the Yamaha portable grand button (which instantly resets the keyboard to the finest onboard piano settings) and the Yamaha Education Suite buttons (which include built-in songs and 7 levels of lessons). In addition, the Yamaha PSR-E423 has features for when it's time to perform, such as synthesizer control knobs for realtime control of the filter, effects, sound envelope, and style tempo. The Yamaha keyboard's arpeggiator provides 150 different patterns and 40 arpeggio voices. Along with its black body, these easy-to-use, professional features set this 61-note keyboard apart from others in its class.

Control knobs, arpeggiator, and pitch bend:
Most of the features of the Yamaha PSR-E423 have been enhanced over its predecessor. 2 control knobs provide realtime control for filtering the main melody tone and changing the tempo of the arpeggio, just like an analog synthesizer. The Yamaha keyboard's pitch bend wheel brings voices like the sax and trumpet to life.

Improved arpeggio function:
Tap into instant inspiration with the arpeggio function, which has been improved for smoother playability. The Yamaha keyboard's hold mode and allocated key-range will free you up to play with both hands. It provides an expanded 150 patterns that automatically generate even more useful phrases that change depending on the notes and chords you play.

A variety of new dynamic voices:
Dynamic voices usually found on high-end workstations are now on the PSR-E423 61-note keyboard. There are 2 different waveforms that change depending on how hard you play the keyboard, allowing for more expression on voices, such as an overdriven or nylon guitar. High-quality voices, from acoustic instruments to electric sounds, have been expanded to 700 varieties. All of these voices sound even better through the bass-enhanced, 2-way speakers.

Wider world content and 174 varieties of styles with auto-backing mode:
Arabic, Indian, and Chinese content has been added to styles, rhythms, and voices. With these styles and voices, you'll sound like you've got a professional backing band behind you.

Extended flash memory and connectivity to PC with USB:
4 times more flash memory has been added to the Yamaha PSR-E423 keyboard so you can play along with your favorites transferred from a PC.

I picked up one of these used for forty. Not a bad deal. But I felt the need to write a review b/c it seems some of the folks here are greatly exaggerating the keyboard. So much so, it makes me think they are not real reviewers. I own a variety of keyboards including Roland, Korg, Yamaha and Casio. This is nowhere near pro quality. It is a home keyboard for novice home players. It has some interesting E pianos, synth leads and pads and some fun arpeggio voices that can inspire but is otherwise plagued by "home keyboard-itis". There are only a few piano voices. The electric guitars are simply awful. So bad that you'd expect to hear them on an 80s home keyboard. Not one is 2015. The strings have that typical home keyboard sound as do the accompaniments. And the organs are disappointing. My old Yamaha DJXII has far better organs than this. I don't know what purpose the XG Lite voices serve b/c they are literally watered down versions of the original fuller voices. The drum kits lack realism but I do like playing with the ethnic drum kits, Indian, Chinese and Arabian. I have a Casio LK270 that is head and shoulders superior to this. Those things being said, it's a fun little home keyboard. Fun to tinker and play with. Anyone with pro gear though will soon be back sitting in front of those to workout the diddy they started on the 423.

Comments about Yamaha PSR-E423 - 61-Key Portable Keyboard:

This keyboard is very nice. It has a large library of sounds and a few features to manipulate the sounds more to your liking. The effects like the EQ, reverb, and attack are all easily adjustable real-time with the knobs. I like the recording feature as well which helps me save ideas quickly for recall later. This is a good keyboard for starters and will keep you satisfied for a long time...

Comments about Yamaha PSR-E423 - 61-Key Portable Keyboard:

I am learning keyboard and am mediocre at best. I have experience with a number of keyboards---four old mono synths (Moog Prodigy, Arp Axxe & Odyssey, and a Korg) as well as a Hammond M3 w/ Leslie and a Yamaha PSS-680. My main interest is in transcribing rock songs and classical pieces and arranging them on a keyboard. This unit is well laid out and easy to use, and comes with an excellent owner's manual which makes everything crystal clear. It also comes with some unique learning features that I appreciate in my efforts to improve. The velocity-sensitive keys, MIDI capability, and 6-track sequencer also make it a great value in this price range, and allow the hobbyist keyboard player to get his feet wet without spending a lot of cash. The 700 voices sound good and allow for a wide variety of presets. It also offers some synth-like controls (such as resonance) that allow for real-time sound modification, a nice feature.

The main limitation is the 6-track sequencer, which is insufficient for some rock songs and for a lot of classical pieces. Only one track can contain chords---this means that if your favorite rock song contains both rhythm guitar and keyboard tracks, you're probably going to have to make some serious compromise. It also lacks any edit capability for stored sequencer tracks, so I will have to get into MIDI to do that. But I am happy with my purchase and look forward to mastering all its functions.

Comments about Yamaha PSR-E423 - 61-Key Portable Keyboard:

This keyboard is amazing! Its professional quality for less than half of what you'd normally pay for. Come with huge selection of pre-programmed sounds and allows you add your own. Arpeggio button with multiple types of arpeggios. Equalizer, processor and pitch shifter. This is a great buy for someone learning how to use a synthesizer or learning piano, but also works on a professional level as well.

I'm an older guy - playing guitar for a few years and decided to get a keyboard to work out new songs on. Full size solid keys, great quality and sound, more effects than I'll need for a long time. Based on what I looked at nothing comes close in this price range. Don't forget to buy the AC adapter - give me a break!

This product was purchased for my grandson, he had outgrown his old one and specifically requested this product, it is very similar to the one his school band uses. He initially was in the symphonic band, then honors, now jazz so this keyboard is a great learning and growing instrument. I would recommend it to anyone.

Comments about Yamaha PSR-E423 - 61-Key Portable Keyboard:

This is a great keyboard for starting out or for someone on a budget that's wants a keyboard that's loaded with features. The rhythm section is loads of fun and sound so good that you could make money as a DJ with just those patterns. The two control knobs that provide real-time control of filter, effects, and sound envelope, are one of the main features that this keyboard offers over other models. The grand piano tones sound beautiful and the sax tones are also very well done. We also have a P105 Yamaha and the PSR-E433 grand piano tones are almost identical and the on-board speakers sound great. We plugged this baby into a custom tube amp with a 12 inch speaker and got a very real sounding B3 tone. There's plenty of creativity that you'll be able to explore on this keyboard and you can't find a better sounding, featured loaded keyboard than the PSR-E433. Just a fantastic keyboard and a real bargain at this price!

This keyboard boasts a full range of voices and has playback. Definitely buy an AC adapter or shell out the pocket change for 6 D batteries! The preset feature is quick and easy and lets you switch between styles easily. I've owned it for more than a year and I must say I am in no need of an upgrade. You can't go wrong with this keyboard!
