Overview

Like the NTX1200 and NTX900, Yamaha's NTX700 Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar easily accommodates a wide range of musical and playing styles and offers the perfect place to start exploring your music and nylon string sound. The versatile, contemporary styled NTX line is designed with thinner bodies, narrower necks, 14th fret neck joints, and cutaway designs to provide greater comfort and playability for today's steel-string acoustic and electric players.

This Yamaha guitar is perfect for adding nylon-string tone to a wide range of musical styles from latin to jazz, Pop to Rock. Built on the classical platform, Yamaha's NTX700 acoustic-electric classical guitar features a cutaway, for comfort when playing in the higher register fret positions. This NTX starts with a solid spruce top, for warm, balanced tone. The neck, back, and sides feature nato, a soft hardwood for a balanced, crisp sound and full volume range.

The Yamaha NTX700 also features the A.R.E. (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement), an original wood reforming technology developed by Yamaha. Through precise controll of temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure, the molecular properties of the wood can be manipulated into a more acoustically ideal condition, similar to the molecular characteristics of woods in instruments that have been played for years. In NX Series guitars, this treatment results in a sound close to that of a vintage guitar that has been played for years. It produces a sharper tone while simultaneously controlling dissonance in the high range. Instruments that have undergone this process have received high marks from a great number of musicians. Their evaluations are nearly identical to those for guitars that have been played for years, and their comments often include terms such as "well settled," "mature," "warm," "excellent resonance," and "clear."

Yamaha's ART (Acoustic Resonance Transducer) pickup system is purpose designed to offer the most natural, dynamic and expressive electro-acoustic sound on the market. Proprietary multi-layer contact sensors perfectly combine ultra-wide dynamic range with outstanding feedback rejection for the most accurate and natural performance sound. The Yamaha classical guitar uses a 2-way system with contact pickups mounted on the treble and bass sides of the guitar bridge. To reduce unwanted feedback caused by vibration the NX Series contact pickup uses an additional multilayer damper to ensure the tone is captured in its purest form. Complementing the warm, full mid-range of the nylon-string tone, the System 61 preamp allows individual volume control over the treble and bass side pickups, allowing you to get the perfect blend for your style. The System 61 preamp also features a 3-band EQ for sound shaping and an on-board tuner. Case sold separately.

I've been in the market for a good quality classical guitar for a few months now. I ran across this instrument at the Guitar Center in San Antonio, TX after checking out several other models, some costing well over twice as much that didn't impress me at all. This guitar meets all my demands and then some. The action is very smooth. I could easily play this thing for hours without getting fatigued. The tone is evenly warm and bright and very responsive. By far, what impressed me the most is the virtually flawless innotation. Call me picky, but I simply refuse to play any instrument that does not tune properly. I typically use a lot of broad and intricate voicings in my arrangements, and this little unit delivers like no other classical I've ever played! Without a doubt, this is the guitar I've been looking for. Try it, you'll buy it!

The saddle was set too high and did not follow the radius of the fingerboard at all. I would have kept this rig except it was uncomfortable for my wrist and hand to play it. If a proper setup had been done then maybe all would have worked for me. The setup was too far off to be attractive to me.
I was trying to replace my heavily used Yamaha APX-6NA and found my old unit still more to my taste.
The NTX700 has potential if set up properly.
Everyone has to get their own good feel from a guitar - players are not all the same - guitars aren't either.

Comments about Yamaha NTX700 Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:

I bought this as a Christmas present for a niece, she's 10 and a small girl. The guitar is really pretty (pink sparkle) The action is good and it has a truss rod, unusual for an inexpensive guitar. I've given her first two lessons, mainly memorizing the strings and finger positions, this evening she's supposed to have a C chord down. I replaced the steel strings with Fender nylon ball end strings, not as loud and it doesn't hurt her fingers nearly as much. Once she gets used to it we'll advance her to light steel strings. The 3/4 size is perfect and the neck fingers really well. I've been playing 50 years (self taught while in the Army) I special ordered a Luna 3/4 size nylon string guitar through Guitar Center, I should get it in a week or so, it's for me to be able to sit in the living room in my recliner to play along with utube. I ordered a 3/4 size Yamaha for myself and sent it back, not a good guitar at all, cut my thumb on the second fret, at the tenth fret the strings were almost 1/2 inch off the finger board.

Comments about Yamaha NTX700 Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:

I love this guitar, when I saw how thin the body is I was a little concerned on how it would sound, but when I first played it I was amazed on how good it sounds, I haven't plugged it in yet, don't have an amp yet but will soon.

Excellent electric nylon-string guitar

By John

from Sacramento

Comments about Yamaha NTX700 Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:

I get a great "natural" sound plugged into my Fender G-Dec 15w amp which was completely unexpected as I thought I'd have to shell out for an expensive acoustic amp. You could just plug the G-Dec into a PA and be good to go. I boost the mid-range a bit and that works well for various fingerpicking styles and I get a nice thump out of the bass strings using palm damping. Flatpicking sounds good too using a medium thickness slightly flexible pick. I'd put on a clear pickguard if I did it a lot. The acoustic sound is just OK for practicing without disturbing others - muted and not dynamic. Workmanship is very good.

Comments about Yamaha NTX700 Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:

I had bought a Cordoba c5ce and it is a good guitar. But with my small hands and shorter reach I bought this Yamaha...What a difference for me. Since the neck is about the same size as my Taylor guitar it was an easy change from one guitar to the other. Have no regrets for buying this guitar. The finish is great..as is the action right out of the box. Sounds good but of course as the Cordoba but I thank Yamaha for making such a professional sounding and play guitar.

      EXCELLENT GUITAR

      By Robert

      from N. Syracuse, NY

Comments about Yamaha NTX700 Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:

For the money, this is one fine guitar. The fit and finish are both excellent, and the set-up was beautiful....nice low action which makes it effortless to play. It sounds great both unplugged and amplified; it doesn't project as much as my Alvarez Yairi classical, but that's the nature of a shallower body style. Still, the bass notes are quite deep for the size of the guitar. Electronics work very well, and I especially like the fact that you can adjusts the bass and treble pickups separately. And, the 48 cm. nut width makes it easy to play for players used to traditional acoustics and electrics.

      I'm in love!

      By Brett

      from Roanoke, Texas

Comments about Yamaha NTX700 Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:

This NTX700 is my second Yamaha classical guitar and I absolutely love it. It plays wonderfully. The black paint finish is mirror smooth and the whole thing is just a work of art. I am definitely pleased with my decision to buy this guitar and would highly recommend it to someone looking to buy in the 500 dollar range. The neck is slightly thinner than most classical guitars, which might be helpful to people who play electrics or steel string acoustics.
