The Yamaha NP31 Piaggero gives you classic Yamaha piano tone and 76 full-sized keys in an ultra-portable package weighing in at just 12 pounds. Operating on just 6 AA batteries (not included), you don't even need a power outlet to play your piano anywhere your music takes you. The NP31 has an easy-to-use panel design with dedicated voice-select buttons. Built-in metronome with adjustable tempo and time signature appeals to the pianist who knows that practice makes perfect. The NP31's Graded Soft Touch Action emulates the graded resistance of an acoustic piano, only without the added weight of hammers. The combination of its 76-key Graded Soft Touch Action, ultra portability, and Yamaha's legendary stereo sampled grand piano, make the NP31 the ultimate practice piano for the intermediate player.
Slim, light, and compact design
Walk in, carrying the NP31 with one hand, and play anywhere thanks to the new slim, light and compact design-it's that easy.
Graded Soft Touch Keyboard
The NP31 has a 76-key, Graded Soft Touch Action keyboard. Just like an actual piano, the lower keys are heavy in touch and gradually become higher as you go up the scale-all the while retaining the soft touch of a digital keyboard. The soft touch makes it easier for beginning and intermediate students to develop the physical requirements of piano technique while learning to play expressively. This facilitates a more natural transition to the weighted keys of more advanced keyboards or the action of an acoustic piano.
Advanced Wave Memory (AWM) stereo sampling
AWM is a stereo sampling technique that creates superb wave data, which mirrors the sound and expression of the original instrument. It creates a unique, rich sound by using multiple waveforms. On an actual piano, the attack and harmonics of notes change as they are played at different volumes. AWM emulates this by substituting appropriate waveforms when keys are struck with varying intensity. This enables you to have a more realistic musical experience as you progress.
Built-in Stereo Speaker System
The NP31 uses highly efficient amplifiers that pack more sound into a lighter digital piano. With 6 watts per channel, the NP31 is ready to go loud and proud whenever you are.
Piano Preset songs
These presets provide performance data for piano songs as well as demo songs for your listening pleasure.

I bought this digital piano because I need one with 76 keys and the standard MIDI in/out to control my Roland SC880 sound module plus have a nice grand piano sound to use when I travel with my choirs to different events. This does the job very well. It's lightweight, compact and since I have joint pain in my hands, it makes it easy for me to play without pain. The graded soft touch keys feels just fine for me. Yamaha pianos have one of the best grand piano sounds in the business and this one has a very nice piano sound. I wish that it had a jazz organ patch on it instead of the pipe organ sounds but my module has all the sounds I'll ever need to use so it'no biggie. If you don't need a controller with all the bells and whistles or a digital piano with hundreds of sounds then this will do the trick. Very nice for the price. I love it!
For the price and weight, this is a phenomenal little machine. You don't get exactly the feel of a hammer action key, but there is a certain resistance that is satisfying. What matters more to me is its gorgeous sound and sensitivity. It is really, very playable captures the expression beautifully. I've read a lot of reviews on the internet posted by haters of this keyboard. To those, I have to say: 1. Everyone knows Yamaha doesn't box their machines with power cables. 2. If any complaint about this fine instrument has to do with people not taking you seriously, or it being a "toy", get your ego of out the way and hear it for what it is. Its weight is not a strike against it. The portability is a HUGE plus!
