Overview

The Yamaha NCX1200R guitar inherits many of the characteristics of classical guitars, such as fingerboard width, neck shape, body thickness, and 12th fret joint. Its cutaway bodies and lower string height offer more flexible playability. The NCX line is designed to provide not only classical guitarists with an instrument that is a pleasure to play, but other guitarists playing a wide range of musical styles from flamenco to Latin to popular, and much more.

The Yamaha NCX1200R offers all the sophistication of a classical guitar along with outstanding, playability, and rich, high-quality tone in a truly professional acoustic guitar. It starts with a solid Sitka spruce top, for warm, balanced tone. The neck is African mahogany, while the back and sides are rosewood. Rosewood is a tropical hardwood that has long been the material of choice for acoustic guitar sides and backs. Harder and heavier than maple, it provides firm support for the guitar's resonating top and delivers rich, well-balanced overtones. Its warm quality is perfect for nylon string tone.

Classical, flamenco, Latin, or pop, whatever your style, these guitars play and sound great thanks to a traditional design ready to accommodate a wide range of playing styles. The neck shape is identical to that on a classical guitar. The NCX1200R's bracing design focuses on delivering the best of nylon-string tone, with warmth and excellent response. It produces a well-balanced tone over the instrument's entire range and enables this acoustic-electric guitars to accommodate a wide range of playing and musical styles

The NCX1200R classical guitar also features the A.R.E. (Acoustic Resonance Enhancement), an original wood reforming technology developed by Yamaha. Through precise control of temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure, the molecular properties of the wood can be manipulated into a more acoustically ideal condition, similar to the molecular characteristics of woods in instruments that have been played for years. In NX Series guitars, this treatment results in a sound close to that of a vintage guitar that has been played for years. It produces a sharper tone while simultaneously controlling dissonance in the high range. Instruments that have undergone this process have received high marks from a great number of musicians. Their evaluations are nearly identical to those for guitars that have been played for years, and their comments often include terms such as "well settled," "mature," "warm," "excellent resonance," and "clear."

Yamaha's ART (Acoustic Resonance Transducer) pickup system is purpose designed to offer the most natural, dynamic and expressive electro-acoustic sound on the market. Proprietary multi-layer contact sensors perfectly combine ultra-wide dynamic range with outstanding feedback rejection for the most accurate and natural performance sound. The Yamaha guitar uses a 2-way system with contact pickups mounted on the treble and bass sides of the guitar bridge. To reduce unwanted feedback caused by vibration the NX Series contact pickup uses an additional multilayer damper to ensure the tone is captured in its purest form. Complementing the warm, full mid-range of the nylon-string tone, the System 61 preamp allows individual volume control over the treble and bass side pickups, allowing you to get the perfect blend for your style. The System 61 preamp also features a 3-band EQ for sound shaping and an on-board tuner. Includes a foam case.

Excellent Nylon String For Gigging

By Mountainmango

Comments about Yamaha NCX1200R Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:

I researched for months a new nylon string guitar to replace my Cordoba, which I had several issues with, and I decided on the Yamaha NCX 1200R for the following reasons: Wide nut, full size body, good pickup system. The Yamaha meets all those criteria splendidly. I've taken the guitar on a couple of gigs already and have totally pleased with what I've heard. I was a little biased towards Yamaha because last year I also purchased a Yamaha SLG 130NW (silent guitar), and I was, and am, totally pleased with that instrument. Very well thought out and designed instrument which I've also used on gigs. I figured that I would be again pleased for the same reasons and I was.

My only criticisms of this guitar is that the action is a little too low for my taste, although I'm starting to get used to it. Replacing the factory strings with high tension strings didn't make much of a difference in the flabbiness, contradicting the comment of a previous reviewer. Nevertheless, I'm getting used to it and I might end loving it the way it is.

The other complaint is about having only two dots on the top side of the neck, on the fifth and seventh frets, excluding the ninth and twelfth frets. I really miss that 12th fret double dot.

This guitar is not fantastically sounding acoustically, but good enough to practice at home with. It really shines plugged in and on the gig. For that reason I gave it five stars--it's very well thought out and practical and it didn't cost an arm and a leg.

OUTSTANDING GUITAR

By JOSE LUIS

Comments about Yamaha NCX1200R Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:

I've had the chance to play some spruce top guitars, and this is one of the best.... Even though the cutaway can be noticed a little when playing unplugged, the guitar sound is very well balanced along the 6 strings. The ART is outstanding. I have another spruce guitar with a FISHMAN blend mic (great mic by the way...) but this sounds better for me. The lower string height turns the guitar very comfortable to play, I would only recommend to test this guitar with MID-HIGH tension strings (it comes with mid tension strings which turns the guitar a little too soft if you are used to play classical guitars). Finally, the guitar is very well finished. The only thing I would point out is that the tuner could be a little more precise. Excellent guitar.... Highly recommended!!!!

The search is over...

By wendell au

Comments about Yamaha NCX1200R Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:

All the other GC reviewers nailed it: best gigging and playing guitar under $1000. Sound quality is equally impressive with ARE technology. Sounds as mature as my 1975 Alvarez. Wonder how much better the NCX-2000R sounds @ $2000 more! Yamaha missed just one thing--normal tension strings are flappy on the B and E so I changed to high tension after the second gig. Game over, the search has ended--very happy with this guitar (I need no other).

All the right stuff

By EVAN GEUSIC

Comments about Yamaha NCX1200R Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:

I'm a die hard American buyer and at first, I was hesitant to purchase a Chinese manufactured instrument, but Yamaha proved me to be wrong. This guitar is impeccable. The Yamaha quality control didn't allow anything but perfection on this beautiful solid wood instrument. It is very resonant, and the fit and finish is superb. My primary reason for purchasing this guitar was for use in amplified situations, and I wanted a full 2 inch nut width just like a standard classical guitar. I seriously contemplated a Taylor because I like their sound and feel, but the nut width wasn't there on the Taylor, so I opted for the Yamaha. These instruments are used by Rodrigo and Gabriela, and they offer an updated twist on a standard classical guitar. It's a joy to play, and I recommend it. The wood is beautiful. I only gave it a 4 because I prefer a hardshell case, although the Yamaha gig bag is very well made, lightweight and appears durable enough. Don't let that stop you from purchasing the guitar. I'm very impressed with the sound, appearance and overall quality of the guitar.

Amazing!!!

Comments about Yamaha NCX1200R Acoustic-Electric Classical Guitar:

Wow...I can't believe the difference from my Ibanez Nylon string. It's alive, responsive and has a rich tone. You can actually play with dynamics!! I can't wait to go to my gigs every night and pick it up when I wake up in the morning. There was no problem moving up the the 52mm nut width from the 48. It feels more natural. I play live with the Fishman Soloamp, which I highly suggest!! I've had non musicians comment on how good I sound with the Yamaha. I have recorded on my Apple with Logic Pro. It sounds really good just plugged straight in and can't wait to experiment with micing it!! Other than my Macbook Pro, it's the best investment I've made in my music career.
