The Yamaha LLX series combines the finest materials, impeccable craftsmanship, and exclusive features to give them a deserving place at the top of Yamaha's electro-acoustic guitar range. Matching the traditional dreadnought-style body with the latest ART pickup system gives LLX acoustic-electric guitars immense character and a big, striking sound”on or off stage. These Yamaha guitars sound like they've been played for years, straight out of the box.
The Yamaha LLX16 acoustic-electric guitar features a premium solid Engelmann spruce top, solid rosewood back and sides and a 3-ply mahogany/rosewood/mahogany neck that lends strength and a more balanced tone. It also features the System 60 ART preamp as used on Japanese L-Series models.
The Yamaha LLX16's System 60 preamp couples the 3-way A.R.T sensor system to an exclusive preamp, which offers ultra-simple controls (3 independent pickup volumes”bass, full-range, treble”and master volume) with high fidelity-grade components for the most transparent, powerful electro-acoustic system available. Using custom-designed, calibrated push-push pots, the System 60 controls are designed to offer stage-friendly ergonomics but be hidden away and not detract from the traditional looks of the L-Series guitar when not in use. The A.R.T system faithfully reproduces the stunning tone of the L-Series guitars with complete transparency”both in sound and playing experience.

12/24/2010 the LLX16 hit my doorstep via the big brown truck. This is my first purchase using the internet to buy a guitar. Normally, I walk in and road test the instrument, then decide. Considering I live an hour from Hollywood, Calif and GC and their competitor both have huge stores, but neither of them had a LLX16 in stock; nor, did any other of the shops in the area; thus, I decided to buy on line. GC did have it on line, so they got the business. When it arrived it was packed in the case which is a very sturdy padded foam gig bag type and the case was in the shipping box. The tone from the Solid Engelman Spruce Top is very, very nice. It projects well, and with the Solid Rosewood Back & Sides the sustain is awesome. This instrument has a robust build and is heavier than my 1968 Yamaha FG180 and my 1992 Martin HD28. I wanted a nice instrument that I could buy and didn't need to take out a second on my house to purchase it and I wanted an acoustic electric. This fit the bill! Money well spent. Tonal qualities overlay one another, doesn't seem to be a dominate bass, mid or treble. They are well balanced. For a factory guitar, the set up is nice. Action on factory can always be improved. Oh one thing, the guitar comes with some sort of coated strings that inhibits rust. While tuning the guitar the high "E" strong broke, the bridge pin launched out of the bridge. No damage. I should have double checked the pin and made sure it was properly anchored. I replaced the stock strings with Martin Light SP's. It sounds excellent with these strings
