Granted I'm a beginner and haven't actually played another guitar, this guitar is awesome. I wasn't sure if I would stick with playing when i first bought this, so i figured 180 was a good amount to spare. A couple friends say the guitar strings are a bit rough, but they're decently easy to play with to me and the CD that it came with taught me how to finally tune a guitar. The bag isn't great and neither is the strap because I don't know how to put it on since there aren't directions, but the tuner and CD are top notch. Sounds great and really fills a room.

The quality of the guitar is quite good. The cons about this guitar package is that the bag for the guitar does not have a strap, the guitar itself does not even have the second knob for a strap... The tuner is decent, but definitely not the better one. I tried my friend's Fender value package and it has none of these issues. I believe the quality of the guitar is not as good though. I am not sure but the strings for the Fender package are better.

Good for the unsure

By ttmnky

from Vancouver, BC

Comments about Yamaha GigMaker Deluxe Acoustic Guitar Pack:

Since this Gigmaker is a relatively low-cost guitar set, it is perfectly suited for beginner guitarists who are unsure about whether they will continue learning to play. The guitar is mediocre at best, but the point of this gigmaker is to introduce one to the world of guitar. If you decide not to play, you're only out about $180. If you decide to continue, you have a whole bunch of much needed accessories (strap, tuner, picks, gig-bag), and you can upgrade your guitar without regretting paying too much for an instrument. This set is wonderful for those who are interested in Guitar, but unsure about whether they will continue to play.

Great guitar for the novelist

By Paul

from Warrenville, IL

Comments about Yamaha GigMaker Deluxe Acoustic Guitar Pack:

I tried to learn to play with a 30-year old hand me down guitar. It was so hard to play that I almost stopped trying. I decided to try out this Yamaha Gigmaker Deluxe and was immediately able to play the cord that stumped me. It became a no brainer to buy. I have received compliments on the sound from several people. I like the tuner and the strings aren't bad for the beginner to learn on. But the crown jewel in this kit is the guitar. Overall this might be the acoustic I stick with for a very long time because of its sound and ease of play.

Solid Beginner guitar

By Miguel R.

from San Diego, CA

Comments about Yamaha GigMaker Deluxe Acoustic Guitar Pack:

I bought mine about 4 months ago, and enjoy it tremendously. I'm pretty sure you can improve the sound with new strings (I'm about due) and other hardware, but it's a solid guitar nonetheless. The gig bag is somewhat flimsy, I don't really think it protects the guitar against anything except light dings and scratches, but I guess its something. Tuner does its supposed to do. 3 picks included, its a nice rounded out package, nice for the beginner. Mine came with a strap which is kind of cheap but does the job. I had to buy another strap for the head so I could loop it to the main strap, since this guitar doesn't have the 2nd nut to attach a strap to. Good for beginners. Very nice sound.

Yamaha

By Eric

from Michigan

Comments about Yamaha GigMaker Deluxe Acoustic Guitar Pack:

I originally wanted to buy the Yamaha standard gig maker but when I got to the Guitar Center store they didn't have any left in stock, so I bought the deluxe pack instead. I am very satisfyied with the guitar and all the extras that it comes with. The guitar sounds great and the strings are good too. I will buy a new bag since the one it comes has no space to put things in.

Nice Guitar!

By TheRookie

from Chicago, IL

Comments about Yamaha GigMaker Deluxe Acoustic Guitar Pack:

I picked the Yamaha over the other starter guitars based on the price and it looks great. I would recommend that you get new strings put on right away . I have found it easy to learn on and sounds great. The accessories are fine to get you started but a new tuner and bag are necessary. A new strap will help too.

Beautiful Sound!

By DWH

from Texas

Comments about Yamaha GigMaker Deluxe Acoustic Guitar Pack:

I bought this guitar for my son a year ago and have been so pleased with the performance and sound quality. When I was shopping I compared the difference in the laminate top Yamaha versus the solid top Yamaha and there was no comparison. This solid top Deluxe Yamaha is worth the extra $$ and the sound quality is the most beautiful acoustic I've ever heard! You won't be disappointed! As a matter of fact, I love it so much that I'm considering buying one for my youngest child.

Solid spruce top for great price!

By Martin Ikeda

from Des Moines, Iowa

Comments about Yamaha GigMaker Deluxe Acoustic Guitar Pack:

I compared the Yamaha FD01S, the guitar in the gigmaker deluxe package, with the acclaimed FG-700S. All I can tell is, Yamaha cut corners on bridge pins, pick guard, and headstock. The rest of the guitar is identical. Maybe the FD01S has a lower grade solid spruce top, but even that is a cosmetic difference and does not impact sound. I bought the FD01S outside of the gigmaker deluxe kit: I have all the accessories already. My recommendation is trash the accessories and keep the guitar. Upgrade accessories and strings on the guitar, and for $250-$300 you'll have a nice solid top guitar with a nice strap and strap button, a quality clip on tuner, and a nice hard shell case (go generic on the case and save some money there). For the price, this is a fine guitar. You'll want to change the bridge pins, but even the saddle is great for Yamaha: compensated saddle-nice touch (same as on FG720s). Sound is good: great treble, good bass for nato laminate. Fingerboard is fine-frets nicely on open F chord, strings easy on the fingers, no fret buzz.

Comments about Yamaha GigMaker Deluxe Acoustic Guitar Pack:

This was a perfect choice for our 12 year old daughter just starting out! I believe she will be good for a few years with this guitar. Her instructor said it was a great pick as well.

Great guitar, bad accessories

By Tyler Levinson

from FL

Comments about Yamaha GigMaker Deluxe Acoustic Guitar Pack:

This guitar is great; however, I think the accesories are unnecessary. The picks are junk, the DVD is not needed if you are getting lessons, the strap in my box was meant for an electric, and the "gig-bag" is basicly a dust cover. The tuner is great and accurate, but you can get the same thing on your phone for free. The one accessory that you really need (a stand) doesn't come with this. I would suggest buy a nicer guitar that doesn't come with accessories and spend the same amount.
