    Unbelievable guitar for the price

    About Me Professional Musician

Comments about Yamaha FS800 Folk Acoustic Guitar:

I'm a professional rock musician and have played many guitars throughout my life; but this is the first piece of music equipment that compelled me to write a review. Generally, I play high-end Martins when I play acoustic. I picked up one of these FS800s as a "beater" while on vacation in Florida, not expecting much; but I was astounded. My go-to is a Martin M-36 (0000 body style), and--though quite a bit small, as you'd guess--this Yamaha has many of the same playability and tonal characteristics. ...and with the solid spruce top, this guitar will only get better with age. As a minor side-note, the action was a bit high to start, so I did some minor setup work on it (just turned the truss-rod nut 3/4 of a full turn, clockwise--NOTE: Only do 1/4 turn truss-rod adjustments at a time; then, after each turn, re-tune the strings and check the action. You can easily damage a guitar by playing around with the truss-rod too much. Whether you're a pro or amateur, get one of these guitars now! I'll be picking up a dreadnought version of this guitar soon as well. Snag these guitars before they're off the market.

Comments about Yamaha FS800 Folk Acoustic Guitar:

Purchased at Scottsdale, AZ location with a generous (thanks, GC!) Vet discount. Got home, tuned it up and behold it is everything anyone ever claimed! The scalloped braces make a real difference too, not that the 700 series were anything short of great. The attention to detail is very nice, the intonation perfect and what an awesome sound for the price! I am sooo glad I paid a little more for this new FS800 instead of a good used FS700.

Comments about Yamaha FS800 Folk Acoustic Guitar:

I am a true beginner so I can't compare it to much except for the other guitars I tried at GC. Since I'm new, I set a spending limit of $300-$400. I must have tried every guitar from $99 to $400 in the place... at least twice. After narrowing it down by size (didn't want a bulky drednaught) I was either going to get the Fender 135-CE or this one. The sound on this guitar is absolutely beautiful. I just kept coming back to it because it sounded so pretty! Easy to play too. I've had it for a month now and I couldn't be happier. Stays in tune pretty well, it seems like the low E string goes out of tune more quickly than the others. Love, LOVE the sand burst finish. Extremely satisfied with my choice and would highly recommend it to anyone!

Comments about Yamaha FS800 Folk Acoustic Guitar:

Ok first, I've owned this guitar for 6 months so this isn't a typical "I've owned it for a week" review. I've been playing for 25 years. I play Folk and Fingerstyle, I capo a lot and I rarely use a pick. Now the guitar! For the price, it's unbeatable. I'm not going into the specs, you probably looked at those before looking at the reviews. Yes, it is playable, imminently playable, right out of the box but YES it will need a setup, if you want to play fingerstyle anyway. Better strings (not knocking the D'Addario's it comes strung with, but there are much better strings out there) make a big difference. I use Curt Mangan Strings (Check them out :)). The guitar has a nice rich voice. Good bass and clear high's with suprisingly good articulation across the strings. The sound is clear and remarkably precise for the price point. The craftsmanship is so good (Yes it's made in China) I was shocked. The guitar is capable of gigging (I do a lot) and going in the studio (I've used it there too) and getting the job done nicely. Yamaha has proven yet again that a guitar doesn't have to cost a ton of money to look and sound great (They've been doing this since 1876 guys). Now, I would change one thing (and I did change on both of mine) . The tuning machines, they are ok but just put Grover's on it. Finally, even though I rarely use a pick, I spent a few days strumming mine just for the sake of this review. It does well when lightly strummed, but like most if not all small body guitars, if you have a heavy hand/hard strummer it's not going to do well. So, I highly recommend this guitar, I own two of them. They look great, sound great, feel great, play great and just ARE great. Get one, even if it's just for travel, etc. to protect your expensive guitars. You'll be glad you did.
