    About Me Experienced

Comments about Yamaha FS700S Solid Top Concert Acoustic Guitar:

Here it is all in a nutshell...

Price - Outstandingly Affordable for it's quality.
Strings - Use any coated or non -coated 80/20 .12 gauge.
Materials - Easily a budget campfire or pick up guitar.

I use this product like any guitar I pick up. Personally I love the scale length from nut to bridge.
The stock strings make it sound - brittle, empty, and bright. However when you put on any 80/20 .12 string, whether it be D'Addario, Elixer, Ernie Ball, Martin, you name it, the sound the guitar puts forth improves significantly.
The guitar seems very light. The smaller Folk Concert body shape is preferable for me personally. I am 5'10, average body weight (give or take 5-10lbs) and my hands are smaller then your average hand, including finger length. All that in mind, it's easy and comfortable to play. I consider it a guitar that I would pick up at anytime to experiment with, any playing style. I really can't find anything that isn't so great about it other then the black binding on the neck, I prefer cream, although it is growing on me. I also would prefer a cream binding on the headstock. I actually prefer the laminate back and sides of nato because of this reason - I have no problem with sitting in front of a fire, playing without worry or concern about damaging it. I only say that because of it's price and materials. Remember that wood is fuel for fire. I claim what is my opinion to be my opinion.

Comments about Yamaha FS700S Solid Top Concert Acoustic Guitar:

I was shopping for a blues box style guitar today and after looking around at several stores and options, including resonators, I picked this Yamaha up on a whim and tried it out. Fit and finish are great, especially considering the price tag. This guitar's concert body style really helps it to sound bluesy. It has a great balance to it's sound. Great bass for blues rhythym, sweet mids and highs that can stand out for leads and slide. Another reviewer said the strings sounded twangy and I like that aspect as I want a twangy old blues sound. I bought this model because it sounds great, but the action was also just slightly high so I won't need to adjust it for slide. The guitar projects really well; it's loud and well defined. The bracing that I can see looks quite well done for a guitar in ths price range. I purchased a sand burst model. It looks really nice, darker than the picture of sand burst online. I bought an end pin for the neck and also got a decent strap for it as my model came with a 20 dollar gift card. I was staying within a budget for a "beater" blues box that I can learn slide on and do alternate tunings with. I have a Martin DRS-1 and a Martin 12 string and this little guitar will be my "fun" experimental blues guitar. It sounds great, is fun and comfortable to play and has a satin finish on the neck for those of you that might like that. I do. 5 stars for what it is in it's price range. It's actually better than many more expensive guitars I've played. I really love this cheap new addition to the stable. If you're looking for a blues acoustic, play this one before you walk out with one of those popular parlor boxes that are all the rage now. I think you get much more value for your money with this guitar's construction, playability and tone.

    Great Guitar

    By Fernando

Comments about Yamaha FS700S Solid Top Concert Acoustic Guitar:

I got this Yamaha FS700S after doing some research, the price is great for a solid top and the sound is great, it is not that much smaller than an FG700S but it does make a difference in how easy it is to play this guitar. I ordered it online because the local GC did not have the Natural finish one in stock, the action is little high from the factory (7/64's) but I lowered it down to 5/64's and it very fast, no buzz, great guitar. I recommend changing the strings to D'Addario EJ16's, for a great upgrade in the tone, the factory strings have a little "twang" to them so I changed them and it sounds great! Very good guitar, hardware is nice, and for the price you can't get a better guitar, this should probably be priced a little higher. Very nice guitar, with great tone and sound, totally recommended.

Good starter guitar of for someone with small to medium hands

    By matthew

Comments about Yamaha FS700S Solid Top Concert Acoustic Guitar:

Overall a great little guitar. I am very happy with it. For $179 it was well worth it. Here are my thoughts: Pro's: Good fit and finish. Good sound. Good strings from factory. Good size for small to medium sized hands. Stays tuned for weeks. Nice light weight. Con's: A little small for my average-sized hands, hard to do chords up near headstock (playing individual notes is quite easy, though). Being an average sized person, getting the next size up may have allowed easier chord access (try the FG700s too if this one is too small for you). Again, a great guitar for the right-sized person.

    Great bargin

    By Captive Socks

Comments about Yamaha FS700S Solid Top Concert Acoustic Guitar:

Don't let the price fool you. This is a great guitar. I have been surprised both by the sound and the play-ability. The sound is warm, might even call it rich sounding. Overall it is pretty balanced and rings out clear and clean. Construction is solid and appears flawless. (Could this really be a $200 guitar?) Additionally, it is maintaining its tuning as well as my Taylor and my custom Martin. Lastly, this "cheap" Yamaha is pretty. The nato looks a lot like it's cousin mahogany. Just some advice if you want an instrument that will make you want to write a review like this: Go to the Guitar Center and LISTEN. People always will tell you to do that, but with this Yamaha the variations in the individual instruments was huge. I listened to 4 of them. The one I have is the only one I would have considered bringing home with me. Taste varies by user. Bring home the FS700S that suits you.

Not just a great beginner guitar...

    By Kathy Sarkes

    from Cleveland, oh

Comments about Yamaha FS700S Solid Top Concert Acoustic Guitar:

This is a great little guitar for any level of playing. I bought the Sandburst at my local gc store, looking for the best sounding and playing solid topped guitar in the store for 200 bones or less. I found it in the new yamaha fs700s. Having come from a guild gad-30pce, guild cv-2c and a breedlove masterclass nw classic--yes i went gear crazy, then broke.. I had to sell my gear before a life change and move--but i digress. This guitar for $200 should be worth $500. Taken home, it sounded great, not loud but as loud as a concert/000 style will permit in a solid top only. It actually has a rich, but somewhat boxy tone. Not a bad boxy, it actually works for this guitar. I love the fact it is a short scale. Because of the boxiness, i would say is more midrange focused. Bass is adequate but lacking, despite the deeper than om body. Treble is clear but kind of tinny when strummed hard. As a side note i have done some upgrades to it. I had ordered and installed a colossi saddle made of bone. Also i changed the tuners to grover 18:1 gold keystone tuners, and replaced bridge pins with ebony pins. All this combined with a truss rod adjustment and sanded down saddle to acheive a .008mm clearance at the 7th fret for lowest possible action without sacrificing tone, this guitar can suprisingly project some sound. A very playable and hard to put down guitar. This guitar also loves phosphor bronze 12-54 strings. 80/20 seems to tin out the sound while pb strings round it out and bring out more bass, while keeping mids pronounced and trebles crisp. All in all i think it was a great guitar for the price to begin with. After some diy setup and modding, i have made it that much better. I would not compare it to an "m" or "t" guitar because those are in a higher bracket, but i thinplayed side by side with my taylor gc3 it would be complimented well. For fit and finish, it is not without flaws. The finish on the bodyis decent, not too thick as to i pede the vibrations of the wood. However there is some light nicking or scarring of the satin finish of my neck. I found this after i brought it home. Best 200 i ever spent and after $75 of upgrades i feel it is easily worth 500 if yamaha added these features from the factory.

    Perfect Yamaha for me

    By LINDA KOSKI

    from Spokane, WA

Comments about Yamaha FS700S Solid Top Concert Acoustic Guitar:

Today I went to Guitar Center to trade my Yamaha FG700S for something smaller. They had the FS700S, and as soon as I picked up I suspected that as a smaller person with shorter arms, it would be much more comfortable for me to play. And it was. I have owned several Yamahas in my life, and I bought the FG700 online without trying it out first, which wasn't a good idea. This FS700 is perfect for me. It's very nicely finished (the Sand burst finish),its set up is fine, and I'm gonna be much happier with this smallersize. I recommend it without hesitation. In my experience, you can't go wrong with a Yamaha of any model. Just find the one that fits!
