Yamaha FG335s/I bought the guitar at Guitar Center and played it there first. I also had my eyes on an epiphone and another yamaha. I played all of them 2 or 3 times, and had to pick this one. I have played for 25 years, and just wanted a good representation of a yamaha, kinda like the one I first got in 1980. Anyway I like it of the 3 and have no regrets. My philosophy on guitars is that the more time on guitar the better the player, and the more fun for the player. Also I can't see spending $4000 or so dollars on a Gibson, when I can have just has much satisfaction on a range of guitar somewhere between $300 and $800 dollars. I played the Gibson there. They wanted $2000, but it would not have been deffinitely better than this one. I also own a martin, a cort, and many others all under $1000, and have lots of fun. Each guitar in unique to me. To make a long story short, I like this guitar and reccomend it. This guitar has deep rich lower tones that I could not ignore, and the appearance is amazing, plus the feel of the guitar overall. These guitars are built in a few days. many of them have poor (or awful)neck sets, and the bridges are so low there is nothing a luthier can do with them. So my advice is to pick one that either you know (or you know someone who knows guitars who knows) has a decent neck set, and has enough height on the bridge for the action adjustment that will very likely be needed at some point.

Gorgeous body, gorgeous sound

By Tony

Comments about Yamaha FG735S Folk Acoustic Guitar:

I actually went into Guitar Center to buy an Epiphone Hummingbird based on the rave reviews it had on this site and others. However, when I saw it it looked nothing like the pictures: it looked candy coated, extremely girly, and sounded very tinny. Then I saw this guitar. The sunburst is a proper deep red, like I was looking for, and the tone and resonance are impressive. I will say that I immediately swapped the strings for Elixirs because the stock strings squeal like mad when you slide your fingers over them, but otherwise this is a beautiful instrument and fantastic for the price.

nice guitars

By richard

Comments about Yamaha FG735S Folk Acoustic Guitar:

I have an FG 735S. My particular one is a very nice sounding guitar, excellent in fact! But I searched all over town, and played a lot of Yamahas to find THE one. Overall though, Yamaha acoustics seem solid, and in general sound good for the price. I would have preferred a plain FG 730 rather than pay the extra 50 bucks for the burst of the 735, but my particular one just sounded so good I had to buy it; the cherry sun burst I have is a nice looking guitar though, and the pearl rosette is really nice looking. Mine sounds very, very nice. In fact for a $300'sh guitar, it sounds excellent. I put it head to head for about three hours against a Masterbilt, which are GREAT sounding acoustics, and my FG held it's own. I ended up taking home the Yamaha if that tells you anything, again, my particular guitar is an extra sweet one. My only complaint is that the pick gaurd doesn't line up perfect with the rosette, it kind of strays into the pearl part, which bugs me, because the rosette is a really nice looking feature. In general I would, and do recommend the Yamaha FG 730-735 acoustic to someone looking for a 300'sh acoustic guitar. They look good, they seem well made, and in general sound good. If you like the sound, then have no fear, buy it, they?re quality guitars.

Comments about Yamaha FG735S Folk Acoustic Guitar:

Well even though I'm a new guitar owner and player... this guitar will simply amaze you in more ways than one! I have taken about a year researching MANY other brands of guitars. This guitar for the price is worth every dime. I am so hooked that I don't want to put it down! It's sound is truely amazing! It's a perfect beginner guitar or for someone with experience. If you want something similar but for a bit cheaper... the FG730S is basically the same guitar and is also just as nice.

Absolutely Amazed!

By Cirrus

Comments about Yamaha FG735S Folk Acoustic Guitar:

I just came back from Guitar Center and brought this sweet little thing home with me. I bet I probably made 10 trips to GG and played several different models. I tried the Tak NEX, the Yamaha 700, the Seagull Mini Jumbo, and even the Taylor Big Baby. I had just about settled on the Seagull when I spotted this 735 up in the very top corner out of reach. I just asked to see it for a last minute comparison. It was absolutely amazing! The amount of volue this guitar puts out is unreal! It just had the exact sound that I was looking for. The Seagull had a bit too wide of a fretboard. I'm so happy with my decision!

Good beginning guitar

By Chris

from Hebron, KY

Comments about Yamaha FG735S Folk Acoustic Guitar:

I was looking to start playing guitar and asked a friend about what kind I should get. He said without question, get the best that you can afford. Well, that happened to be the Yamaha FG735S. As a beginning guitar player, I am very thankful for the advice. This guitar is made of quality material and hold tunings very well, even through my awkward abuse as a beginner. The tone is warm and rich, the action is relatively low, and the color of it is fantastic. Now for a couple of gripes. First, this is a large guitar. Don't let anyone fool you by the "folk" label. it qualifies for jumbo. Second, the nut width is listed at 42.9mm, I measured mine out at 43.5mm, not much of a difference, but that little bit makes getting to the #6 string a little difficult. Lastly, the strings that came with it were pretty flat. I replaced mine with a set of Martin lites, and now she sings. Overall, if I had to choose a different guitar to start off on, I would have found one a little smaller, but, the quality may not have been there. So, I am very happy with this guitar.

Comments about Yamaha FG735S Folk Acoustic Guitar:

This is my first guitar and i love it. I had looked at the other guitars and was looking at either tha taylor big baby, or this one. i couldnt pay to much for it cause my grandparents were paying for it and i didnt want them to go broke. and this is defenitly one of the best for the price. i love the color and though the strings are a bit tinny the overall sound is great. i hope you will look into this guitar this would defenitly be my favorite out of the ones i tried.

By far the Best giutar for the price!

By Ryan

Comments about Yamaha FG735S Folk Acoustic Guitar:

I received this guitar for Christmas two years ago and have been attached to it ever since! Although the strings that it has from the factory were not the greatest. I recommend replacing the strings with Martin SP extra lights. I also replaced the stock bridge pins with brass tone pins witch added to the excellent tone and projection this guitar offers. It also sounds much better than some much higher priced guitars I have played. I would definitely recommend this guitar!

Love this Guitar.

By David

Comments about Yamaha FG735S Folk Acoustic Guitar:

I have played for 16 years, and I must say that this is a great guitar. I played ovations and other brands while trying to pick an acoustic, but the yamaha just has a beautiful, warm tone. The rosewood fretboard is smooth and comfortable to play. My only regret is that it isn't acoustic/electric, but I can always get a pickup for that. I would highly recommend this for anyone.

great buy for the money

Comments about Yamaha FG735S Folk Acoustic Guitar:

I love this guitar. It is a great value for the $$. I tried other guitars in this price range and the sound and quality of the guitar itself just wasn't there. This guitar sounds a little bright, but I even kind of like that for the kind of music I am playing now. I highly recommend this guitar if you are looking for a good sound at a reasonable price. The body is crafted well and the finish is really nice, also.

Great Value!

By Scott

Comments about Yamaha FG735S Folk Acoustic Guitar:

This is my second acoustic. My first was a Martin D-35 which I love and is absolutely my baby. I bought the Yamaha with the intention of it being a "beater" for random jams around the house when i don't feel like getting my Martin out of the case. However, I have found the Yamaha to be much more than a "beater" guitar. For the relatively low price you get a rosewood back and sides, and solid sitka spruce top... a combination which I have always found to produce loud rich tone. And the Yamaha is no exception. The tone is very loud and clear. In my opinion the only improvement would be a little more bass to balance out the mostly treble tone. The construction also seems to be sturdy. It feels like it's built to last, and there are no sharp edges on the frets or any other noticeable issues. My only qualm would be that the neck is three piece (headstock, neck, and butt that adjoins to the guitar). However as long as this construction holds up, I'm happy. Finally, the finish looks awesome. I've always wanted a Cherry Burst guitar, and this one looks great. Overall, I would recommend this guitar to anyone. For the price you simply can't do better. Looks great, sounds better, and feels sturdy enough to last... two thumbs up!
