I've been playing for only a little over a year now, but I've had the great pleasure in playing several different brands of guitars - Fender, Martin, and Palmer to name a few. For a while, I thought no brand was capable of even coming close to the "perfect" sound of a Martin guitar. With a limited budget, I really wanted a decent, (12)steel-stringed accoustic guitar and the Yamaha FG720S 12-string impressed me. With a glossy finish on the body (natural on the neck,) a REAL solid spruce top, chrome tuners, and a low action out-of-the-box, it raises your eyebrows. :) If you don't like the action, this guitar comes with an Allen wrench to adjust the truss rod. I wasn't familiar with "Nato" wood, but I can assure you that this guitar projects very well. It provides excellent, deep bass and it RINGS! This guitar sounds beautiful and it's not as hard as I thought it would be to fingerpick with it. (I'm used to playing 6-strings.) For the hardware you get at this price, this is the best deal I've seen, especially for a 12-string!

I bought this after reading all the reviews. I had a Yamaha twelve with a laminate top many years ago. I thought this would sound better with a solid top, but it doesn't. This twelver has a nice sound, but that's about it. It lacks richness, depth, and bottom end. I will send it back and keep looking.

Comments about Yamaha FG720S 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

I agree with all of the previous positive comments, and will add that after adjusting the truss rod, nut height & action, as well as filing the fret ends, this guitar plays & sounds great. I bought it as a compliment to my Yamaha FS700S, and they do make a great pair. I'm a happy customer.

This guitar will bring a smile on your face every time you pick it up

Comments about Yamaha FG720S 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

I bought mine used (very slightly, and after reading tons of review about how great it was for the money), it was in excellent shape. It needed a setup out of the box, the action was really high, but once set up properly, it's an absolute JOY to play! It's hard to put down. For the price, it sounds very, very good. The notes are very well detailed, the lows sound great, the highs chime in beautifully, overall it's very well balanced across the whole spectrum... It looks and feel very well constructed, the woods are very nice, the grain very tight. I have no problems with the tuners so far, the guitar holds its tune very well for days (it's in my basement, which is fairly dry (never exceeds 40% humidity) and cool (66F-70F)). It's also very light (of course I'm used to a resonator so I'm biased). I find it very comfortable to play. Sure, the body is fairly big, but the neck itself is pretty comfortable. I'm using it to play some travis picking and while it takes a while to get used to, it feels more and more comfortable. Honestly, for that price, I feel like this guitar has been an excellent introduction to the world of 12-strings, and with the quality of the build and of its sound, I feel like it will take a very long time before the fun wears off. Right now, every time I play it I start grinning...

Comments about Yamaha FG720S 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

Yamaha acoustic guitars have always offered the best bang-for-the-buck and this one is true to that. I hope they never let up on their commitment to quality. A great 12 string. The only negative I can say is that the neck is a bit too narrow for my fingers. But in all other aspects this is my favorite purchase in the last 20 years. Buy one! And put DR Sunbeam strings on it, you will not be disappointed!

Comments about Yamaha FG720S 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

So I bought this guitar sight unsees, I have played alot 12 strings under the 1k range, Martin and Taylor and Fender, so I took a leap of faith knowing I did buy a Yamaha 6 string for my 14 year old daughter thats sounds pretty good. I own a Martin D-28, Taylor 810ce, and Fender 88 Strat. After recieving the guitar and tuning it the strings its sounded very thin and trebly, replaced with Martins same issue and going out of tune. Finally ordered some John Pearse strings, the staple on all my acoustics and WOW what a delightfull sound. I havent picked up my Martin in a week so far cant stop playing this. 320.00!!! Really this is a steal, buy one now!! anyone complaining about this guitar has no idea what they are talking about. Thinking about puting some fishmans in it next to get it wired up. Its all about the Strings people it makes or breaks everything.

You Get Way More Sound Than You Pay For

          By Jeremiah Tabor

          from Mount Shasta, CA

Comments about Yamaha FG720S 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

If you are on a budget, this is the perfect 12-string. I've played better 12-strings but they were 4 times the money and not much better sounding, or not in production anymore. This is perfect for playing at home. The actions is smooth and the sound is well rounded. I've had mine for several years and nothing has changed. Its solidly made (in Taiwan). The only thing to keep in mind is the nut with. At 1 13/16" wide, the nut makes the neck a little on the narrow side for a 12-string. This was not a deal breaker for me, but I due prefer a wide neck on a 12 string. This narrow nut width is great for smaller hands and shorter/thinner fingers. Overall, it's an excellent guitar and at well under $500 its worth it. You save enough money that there is no excuse not to buy a Hardshell case for it. Buy one, and protect your instrument.

Yamaha is the blue collar Martin!

          By Gary Moore

          from Desert Hot Springs, CA

Comments about Yamaha FG720S 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

This is a remake of a guitar I owned in 1971. Just bought this one and it's identical, top to bottom, front to back. The sound is rich and deep, just like my first one. Fingering was incredibly easy right out of the box. Yamaha simply makes the best guitar for the money. Just play one at Guitar Center next time and you'll be amazed. THEN look at the price!

Comments about Yamaha FG720S 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

I am totally impressed with the price/value of this piece. If you are looking for a 12 string to add to you collection, this is the way to go for sure. I have read the reviews and I would recommend not worrying about the lack of electric. Just get yourself a DM pop in Pro Mag like 44 bucks last time I checked and your ready to roll! As a matter of fact I was a bit disappointed that the salesman didn't recommend this from the tart and I had to figure it out on my own but, now I know and now you know so go get you one and have a blast because that combo will blow you away!

Comments about Yamaha FG720S 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

Now, I've owned several higher-end instruments including two Deering banjoes, a Gibson J-200 6-string, a Phil Leadbetter Dobro, etc., but always wanted a 12-string to fool around with and not feel afraid to take it to the beach, campfire sing-alongs, etc. So, I'm pretty happy with this instrument -- now made in China -- as it played right out of the box. The action is mildly high compared to the J-200, which I soon intend to remedy. But I've needed to tune only twice with an electronic tuner in the nearly two weeks I've owned it and feel that the nyatoh (a mahogany-like wood that grows in China and Korea) body adds deep growly lows to an instrument that already provides a good bit of natural jangle and sonority at a reasonable price -- especially after an extra 15% holiday discount!!! Lots of fun for between 1/10 and 1/8 of what I paid for each of my 'better' instruments. By the way, I do not recommend ANY 12-string for a FIRST guitar and probably would not recommend a higher priced one to anyone other than specialists and/or professional performing musicians and recording artists. Stylistically speaking, it's kind of a narrow genre or niche and, IMO, newbies have enough to think about without having to negotiate the additional challenges involved in buying, playing, replacing, and tuning an additional six strings...

Comments about Yamaha FG720S 12-String Acoustic Guitar:

This is really good. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 stars because the inotation needs some work, the strings could be lower and the saddle needs to be pulled back however you do that but I bet some guitar tech can do it. I currently have 9-46 strings on it and the Top E, A, D and G strings on the bass side are still sharp. Get this fixed and it will be a 5 star guitar. I've been sanding down the bridge to lower the strings which I should probably let a professional do. But anyway for the good this guitar is LOUD! I like that. Loud and clear. To me it sounds really really good. Buy it then go have somebody work on it and it will be amazing.
