Comments about Yamaha FG Series FGX800C Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I was planning to upgrade from my Dean Performer E, which I had purchased used from Guitar Center in Springfield NJ.

I ended up selecting the Yamaha unexpectedly after playing guitars that cost twice the price for 2 hours. If you're interested, here's my selection story:

I went back to the Guitar Center where I bought the Dean to look at a Taylor 114CE, a used Breedlove Stage and brand new Pursuit Bubinga. I also played some Martin guitars (to me sounded muddy).
I was really gunning for the used Breedlove Stage because it was a $1,000 guitar going for just $550, but I felt as though I could barely hear it from my playing position. Plugged in it sounded great, but horrible by itself. Kept getting out of tune, also. I tried out a Stage Concert, which sounded better, but still not there. Epiphone Masterbilt... Interesting but overkill on electronics and not great (a pin was popping out- looked like dimensions were wrong). Taylor 114CE. Wow, now that's a guitar! I was mentally settling into the $600 and about to go with the Taylor, but something still didn't seem right. Taylor is bright, clear, good volume at player's position, superb projection, but I wasn't picking up on decent low end.
In my role as worship leader at my church, I'm occasionally the only non-percussion instrument, so I need solid high, mid, and low-end sound. Balance is not an option. So I decided to experiment, think outside the box. I lowered my sights a bit. Tried an Ovation Applause. Had my eyes on an Ovation Elite Spalted Maple online (gorgeous!) But I wanted to feel what the rounded back was all about. Ovation- beautiful sound, even unplugged it's great! Couldn't deal with that slight upward tilt from the bowl...
So then there was this Yamaha. Never even considered a Yamaha. Played a few chords... Wow, that's rich (deep). Finger picking, clear. Electronics superb. AMF notch type filter. Amazing buttery neck. Played 30 minutes, put on a capo. Nothing out of tune. Sold!

Comments about Yamaha FG Series FGX800C Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I spent over 2 days trying out over 50 guitars in 3 different stores. I was prepared to spend up to $1000. The sound on this thing is killer! It has some of the chimeyness of a Taylor but not too trebley and some of the bottom end of a Martin. This guitar is loud. I play pretty hard and it takes it like a champ! Played pretty good out of the box but really came alive once it was setup. The only thing I wish it had was a neck strap button but my tech fixed that. I'm pretty animated on stage and can't stand having one end of the strap tied to the top of the neck. Falls off my shoulder when jumping around.

The Martins and Taylor's up to the $1500 range just didn't have the time I was looking for. This thing smokes em and the for the price, it can't be beat. Hats off Yamaha!

Comments about Yamaha FG Series FGX800C Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I am a beginner with the guitar, but after trying many different guitars I finally decided on this one. The sound seems to be much stronger than the fgx 700. Many of my friends that have very expensive guitars say it sounds and plays great.

Comments about Yamaha FG Series FGX800C Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I play about 10 to 15 gigs a month, mostly wineries, wine bars, and lounges. A friend of mine, who makes his living touring and demonstrating guitars for Yamaha. Needles to say he is a phenomenal player and I really respect his opinion. He told me about this guitar as I was looking for one for my 20 year old son, but I couldn't spend a fortune. I personally play a Taylor 310CE which I absolutely love. I picked up this guitar at a GC and was immediately hooked. It felt a bit small for me as I am a 6' 3" 300 pound bear but my son is a little skinny 5' 9" 160 pounder. The sound was rich and full and the neck felt great right off the shelf. I seriously thought about keeping for myself as a back-up and giving my son an older Breedlove that I have. But Catholic guilt took over and I gave it to my son. He absolutely loves it. Tomorrow I am going down to get another one for myself. For the money I think this is the best guitar I have ever played.

Bought this Yamaha FGX 800 C, and found that it's great solid good quality guitar for a beginner but also an advanced player. I had to spend 50.00 to have it set up by a luthier at GC but that was well worth the money!! Overall, I love it and use it mainly in summer where I can play and sing around a campfire!!

I was looking to spend over a grand on a used guitar. I ran across this because I remember how great the old fg series was and it piqued my interest. This is by far the punchiest yet smooth guitar ive played in 20 years. Sounds amazing amplified. Maybe not as smooth as a Taylor but much more dynamic. Zero regrets. This one will stay with me for a long time.
