Who has time to adjust the volume during a performance? I used to wish I had a third hand, but not anymore. Use that extra foot that's not being used! Just like a wah pedal, just control your volume and bring yourself out in your solos. This is a great investment that I think all keyboardists should make. Good luck By the way, you may want to consider gluing some rubber to the bottom as it tends to slide away sometimes.. other than this, it's a faithful pedal. Thanks Yamaha + Guitarcenter

This pedal is made of very strong rubber and should meet most needs for an expression pedal. The big problem is that most people find the pedal changes volume or MIDI values in the first 5 degrees of movement, making it almost useless for most generic applications. The reason the F7 expression pedal does this is the unit contains a single 50k ohm variable potentiometer (resistor). Yes, ALL expression pedals are about as complicated as a volume knob on your guitar. In fact that is exactly all they are.

Here is a simple fix to make your F7 volume expression pedal work for your keyboard or guitar effects unit.

We need to change the potentiometer from a 50k to a 10k ohm pot. However you don't have to replace the 50k ohm pot. Instead you can add a simple 12.5k ohm resistor in parallel with the pot. This will reduce the effective resistance to 10k ohm.

Why does this work?
When you put resistors in series, the resistance adds up. Imagine pumping water through one narrow opening, and then adding a second narrow opening in series. It will slow the water further. Same thing for electricity.

When you put resistors in parallel, you provide two parallel paths for electricity to flow.

Here's the math:
R2 = R1 × Rtotal/ (R1 − Rtotal)
Where:
Rtotal = 10k ohms – the desired value
R1 = 50k ohms - the F7 potentiometer
R2 = the resistor we want to put in parallel
Do the math, R2 = 12.5k ohm

The resistor should be connected from the shield (ground) to the top of the pot.

    Comments about Yamaha FC7 Volume Pedal:

    I purchased a Korg Exp‑2 Expression Pedal to work with my Korg Kronos 2. However, it works terribly with my Nord C2D that just came in the mail (thanks Sweetwater!).

    The Nord C2D has a menu setting that allows you to select a popular brand expression/volume pedal calibration (Korg, Yamaha, Roland, etc.). Selecting the Korg pedal calibration did nothing to fix the fact that, given an audio range of 1-100, the "climb" to 100 resets when you get to 30. This results in a horrible-sounding drop in volume back to 0 to as you try to increase it. This does not happen on the way down.

    With that said, the Yamaha FC7 is highly praised in many forums across the internet for being perfectly compatible with Nord instruments, and works perfectly with my Nord C2D (Very smooth). It's sturdy, won't move around on you (rubber gripping), and has an adjustable angle option.

    FYI: the TRS cable is built into the pedal, and you will need to attach the pedal to its base when you open the box for the first time.

        Comments about Yamaha FC7 Volume Pedal:

        I have used this pedal for years and rely on it in live performance. It has always worked well with my Yamaha keyboard and I also use it with my Nord Stage 2. If you're worried about Nord not being correct polarity, there is actually a setting in the Nord programming for this pedal. It stays put and feels great under my foot.

        Comments about Yamaha FC7 Volume Pedal:

        I've been using the FC-7's since 1999 when I bought a used PSR-7000. I eventually moved up to a PSR-9000, Tyros 1 & currently a T3. As I write this I have 4 - yes 4 -broken FC-7's sitting on my shelf. They just don't last & I'm not the handyman type. not worth paying a repair shop to fix -em. They just don't last, plain & simple. Very shabbily made. I'm not buying any more, just working without a volume pedal.

            Comments about Yamaha FC7 Volume Pedal:

            I have seen some conflicting stories when i tried to research this online, but I just wanted anyone with a Nord Electro 3 to know that this volume pedal will work fine with that keyboard. There is a fairly obvious configuration setting you need to make on the keyboard, (i.e. set the expression pedal type to "Yamaha" in the system settings), and then it will work as expected. So it does exactly what I was looking for...can't complain. Also, if you read the manual that comes with the pedal, there are two ways to adjust the sweep of the pedal: one that adjusts the angle to be more comfortable depending on if you are sitting or standing, and the other adjustment which allows for a Nigel Tufnell-esque "more" function, (i.e. allow you to "go to 11" when you press harder at the end of the pedal's travel). So, some nice functionality here for those that care to delve beyond the surface.

              Comments about Yamaha FC7 Volume Pedal:

              I bought a pair of these to replace an old Dearmond. The pedal has a single cord with a stereo 1/4" plug. It fits my Yamaha S80 and my Roland V09. This is a nice volume pedal, rugged, heavy enough to not skate all over the floor, and has a spring-loaded top end, so you can push just a little extra when you need it.
