Overview

The DXR15 achieves a class-leading 133sb SPL and full-bandwidth performance by combining a powerful Class-D amplifier with a high-power 1100W woofer and Yamaha's cutting-edge technologies. Throw in some D-CONTOUR and you'll feel like you're using a subwoofer. Excellent as either a floor monitor or main speaker, the DXR15 has plenty of mic and line level input capabilities to make it a wise choice for a variety of applications.

DXR Series Breakdown
Performance runs in the family, and like the acclaimed DSR Series before it, DXR Series loudspeakers offer superb high-definition sound and class-leading sound pressure levels-yet in a more compact and extremely functional design for more diversity. The DXR Series loudspeakers are perfectly suited for front-of-house sound, monitors, simple amplification, rigged applications and more. Combining the series with Yamaha's newly designed DXS subwoofers (sold separately) will further elevate your system's performance, giving you wider control of its thunderous bottom end. With the perfect balance of raw power and innovative speaker technologies, you can depend on DXR Series speakers to deliver the full power of your performance to every member of your audience.

The Power of "D"
Yamaha's development team took full advantage of a number of advanced digital technologies, both new and refined, based on Yamaha's extensive experience accumulated over many long years of developing professional audio equipment. Everything from the detailed management of crossover, EQ and time alignment to the limiter settings, protection functions and precise dynamic control of the sound, was subjected to endless simulation, in-house and field testing to ensure that these speakers produce the highest level of sound quality at the highest output levels possible. Combined with Yamaha's advanced analog signal processing and acoustic technologies, the "Power of "D" delivers ultimate performance.

Ultra-Precise 48-bit DSP Processing for High-Definition Sound
All full-range models feature Yamaha's proprietary FIR-X tuning utilizing linear phase FIR filters for the crossover network. FIR-X tuning simultaneously optimizes frequency and phase response while adjusting the time alignment between the HF and LF transducers. This creates a very smooth response around the crossover point, providing much better clarity and imaging than what is possible with typical crossovers.

All signals are precisely processed by a 48-bit (76-bit accumulator) high-performance processor for high-definition sound quality. All full-range models employ high-precision 24-bit discrete A/D and D/A converters with superior S/N ratio and dynamic range.

Intelligent Dynamic Control for Consistent Clarity at Any Output Level
D-CONTOUR is an intelligent multi-band compressor that gives you powerful and consistent sound throughout all output levels. By constantly monitoring the output of multiple frequency bands and calculating the optimum EQ adjustments for each, even the maximum sound output maintains outstanding clarity and musicality.
With the DXR Series, D-CONTOUR provides a more detailed tuning of your sound with two different settings: FOH/ MAIN mode or MONITOR mode. FOH/MAIN mode boosts low-frequency to compensate for low-end that is typically missing when speakers are used in suspended applications or mounted on a speaker stand. MONITOR mode is completely optimized for floor monitor application by intelligently taming down the low-frequency that adds up due to floor reflection, smoothing out a wide range of frequency bands to give you stunning clarity for monitoring your sound. Both of these presets were perfected by performing countless listening tests with skilled sound engineers, giving you a multi-band compressor that performs dynamically, delivering consistent sound with low distortion at any output level.

Extensive DSP Protection Functions for Maximum Output
In a typical system comprising passive loudspeakers, power amps and signal processors, trying to set optimal parameters for each component can be a daunting task. One of the advantages of active loudspeakers is that the combination of transducers and amps can be perfectly optimized. During the development of the DXR series, Yamaha measured and tested the durability of each transducer and the overall amp output through countless indoor and outdoor listening tests. Based on the test results, they were able to set the optimal limiter point for each model using precise DSP control.

In addition to the optimal limiting, these speakers employ many of the same protection functions used in their top-class TXn Series professional power amplifiers. A microprocessor and high-power DSP monitor the status of the power supply, power amplifiers, transducers and ongoing signals to protect all aspects of each component. As a result, these speakers can perform to their full potential while ensuring reliable operation in even the most severe conditions.

High-Efficiency 1100W Class-D Amplifiers
All DXR Series loudspeakers are equipped with highly efficient Class-D amplifiers that were optimally designed to match the DXR's HF and LF transducers. These high-performance amplifiers deliver the highest sound output in their class with 1100W of power, producing an impressive SPL. They also provide very fast attack and superior transient response, which greatly contribute to these speakers' incredible audio performance.

Universal Switching-Mode Power Supply
The DXR Series employs an all-new, high-efficiency switching-mode power supply for its outstanding performance. The power supply is also suitable for use worldwide with its multi-voltage design.

Intelligent Onboard 3-Channel Mixer
The DXR Series features a flexible onboard mixer with a variety of input, making it ideal for simple vocal/ instrument amplification. With its flexible IN/OUT, the DXR Series can comprise a full sound reinforcement system, or seamlessly integrate into a setup utilizing DSR or DXS Series speakers.

Versatile Mic and Line Level Input Capability
The DXR onboard mixer can handle up to three simultaneous inputs. It accepts both Mic and Line level input, giving you the flexibility to connect to a variety of sources from microphones to line level instruments and portable audio devices. When in MIC position, an HPF is automatically activated to roll off unwanted low frequency.

Smart Mixing / Linking Function
Each channel has an individual volume control, letting you mix three discrete audio sources. THRU out passes the input signal from Channel 1 and LINK OUT sends mixed signal from all channels-ideal for daisy-chaining or routing the signal to another destination. LINK OUT is very useful for configuring a compact SR system with another DXR, while LINK MODE allows you to easily switch between stereo or dual-mono configurations.

Custom-Designed DXR Transducers
All DXR Series transducers were meticulously selected and thoroughly customized to deliver ultimate performance. The detailed characteristics and behavior of each transducer was fully analyzed and evaluated with sophisticated computer simulations in order to help realize their full performance potential. The high power output woofers deliver very low distortion and defined, deep bass, while the 1.4" precision compression drivers produce accurate midrange and high frequencies up to 20kHz.

DXR Wide Dispersion Constant Directivity Horn
The HF transducer is mounted to an all-new 90x 60constant directivity horn, designed with the goal of minimizing radiation pattern deterioration in oblique directions as more conventional horns are prone to doing. This can help to achieve a more ideal coverage area without irregularities. With the new wide dispersion constant directivity horn, sound expands in a more rectangular pattern providing 90 horizontal x 60 vertical coverage, with wide-frequency sound projected to the edges of the coverage area.

Durable, Compact ABS Enclosures
Full-range models are moulded in rugged, non-resonant ABS enclosures and are designed to dampen down vibrations caused by high-output levels, producing less distortion and superior sonic quality. The road-tested enclosures are equipped with heavy-duty steel grilles and ergonomic, gripped aluminum handles that greatly improve durability and portability.

Dual-Angle Polemount Socket
Depending on the venue, sometimes your mix can fall prey to low ceilings or other room attributes that can impede a clear, even mix and detract from the audiences' listening experience significantly. The DXR's polemount socket offers two positions (0 and 7) to direct the acoustic energy away from reflective surfaces and on to your audience where it belongs.

Rigging Points for Standard Eye-Bolts and Optional U-Brackets
DXR Series loudspeakers come equipped with rigging points, allowing for rigged application with standard eyebolts (not included). When more versatility is required, optional U-brackets allow simple and easy rigging in both horizontal and vertical configurations.

Symmetrical Enclosure Design for Mirror-Mode Floor Monitoring
The DXR15's enclosure design enables mirror-mode monitor placement that creates a symmetrical sound field for the performer with a larger, more defined "sweet spot". Used in either a balanced dual-mono configuration or a stereo monitor mix setup, mirror-mode floor monitoring can enhance your performance considerably.

I use these speakers to provide sound for dance competitions in high school gymnasiums. Four of these units are more than enough for a gym full of dancers and spectators. Easy set up with the DSP. Even at flat setting they produce enough bass so a sub is not needed. The sound is so clean that you won't realize how loud they are playing, but an SPL meter will confirm the ratings are true.

15in Solid Sound

By GORDON SLAGLE

from Pittsburgh PA.

Comments about Yamaha DXR15 15" Active Speaker:

I wanted 15in powered speakers with kick and a sound case. I wanted the QSC but did not want to spend the money on the W series (wooded case ). I purchased 4 of the Yamaha MXR 15 and 1st night used in a school gym for a dance. They Rocked the gym and the gain was set at zero and used half the volume. Solid cases no feed back or failure of the soundness of the speaker case. Very happy with Yamaha and came thur with a great speaker and affordable price.

GREAT SPEAKER! ONE OF THE BEST OUT THERE.

By JIME ABEYTA

Comments about Yamaha DXR15 15" Active Speaker:

I have owned a set of these speakers(DXR15)for about 3 months now and have not been disappointed in any way. This speaker has great sound and clarity coming from the highs, mids, and lows. The 15 woofer throws tremendous bass. I have researched and listened to several speakers on the market and this is hands-down one of the best I have heard. This speaker has unbelievable power and multiple input and output options on the back panel. I would highly recommend this speaker to anyone. Do the research and go out and listen for yourself!

Comments about Yamaha DXR15 15" Active Speaker:

The Yamaha DXR15 is awesome. What makes this speaker special amidst the competition is the fact at 50Hz it is at 0dB! That's virtually no loss of anything from 100Hz to 50Hz. This means when I play out I don't have to bring a subwoofer for smaller events. Frequency response is relatively flat which is great since I play acoustic music on occasion. That translates to minimal EQ tweaks. It has more than enough power and excellent wide high frequency dispersion. Mid-range is somewhat focused straight ahead, but that generally isn't a problem when mixing any venue live. It's more of an issue when high frequencies won't disperse wide enough. In FOH mode there is plenty of bass when these are placed high. Nexo and Yamaha did an awesome job fine tuning these :)

    Killer Sound

    By Frank Sandy

Comments about Yamaha DXR15 15" Active Speaker:

I shopped and I listened and I shopped some more. I have VMPS Rm30 and 626 in my sound room with lots of acoustic treatments. I have spent a great deal of time just listening to music. I wanted a speaker I could crank .... I blew my RM30s up twice when the party gets hopping I ignore the clipping and I pay the price. Do these speakers sound as good as my RM30s...no. These speakers sound incredible, still blown away by there sound and they are portable and LOUD did I mention LOUD! with no distortion .. I have no need for a sub woofer with these They weight near 50 lbs and they are not small so they are at the limit of what one person can manage at my age.. I am not a weight lifter. Music just sound live.. They ARE the party now! Guitar center gave me a great deal on a pair and I recently purchased the covers for them also...Now they look great also...well they look great anyway . One more thing , because they are black I set them up in my back yard and they disappear people are like ...wow where is all that sound coming from? Go have a listen and you will be hella happy!

Comments about Yamaha DXR15 15" Active Speaker:

Just got these speakers...after extensive research between the Yamaha, QSC, EV ELX series, and JBL PRX series, I decided on these...I have two other Yamaha speakers (SV115) and a Stagepas 500 system and neither have let me down so I am hoping that these DXR 15's live up to the quality that I have encountered from my other Yamaha gear...I chose the DXR over the DSR 15 because I use the speakers only for mobile DJ, the price point was a little better, they are a little lighter, and a nice rebate from Yamaha as well...The warranty is impressive and was the reason I went with these over a used set of KW153's...which I know are also great speakers...Yamaha reputation and my own experience with their products makes me feel good about my choice and I will update this review in a couple of weeks after I use them at an upcoming NYE party and the following week in a gym at a high school dance..

    Powerful 2ways !!

    By JOHN

Comments about Yamaha DXR15 15" Active Speaker:

Okay, I own 2 QSC153's and they are phenomenal cabinets that we use for mains. We have a 5 piece high energy rock band. Had the JBL 735s and returned them, very cheaply built. So I then got the QSCs. and they ROCK !! Then I went out looking for a back up active speaker that could be used in a pinch in the off chance one of the mains had an issue, (which would really be an off chance, because the QSCs are rock solid!) I figured I would use an extra speaker as a powerful monitor. ENTER the Yamaha DXR15. WOW I was surprised at how powerful and clear they are with GREAT bass response. Just to check it out I put the DXR on one side of the room and the QSC153 on the other. Sounded fantastic! (Held it's own) The mids in the QSC gave it the edge but I am impressed with the DXR. So much that I bought another one to pair with the QSCs for bigger shows and since we have two Yamaha DXS15's subs to sit the DXR's on, it's a freakin WALL OF SOUND !! Great gear ! I also started using these for mains in small to mid venues (very compact)

The fan actually does it's job and keeps the speaker cool over hours of loud music and vocal speaking.

Comments about Yamaha DXR15 15" Active Speaker:

I upgraded my passive Peavey towers for these Yamaha DXR15 bad boys. I couldn't be happier. I was looking for sound quality in an active speaker. A pair of these does more than enough for my mobile needs. They are very powerful and can light up just about any gig you have in mind. No more lugging around my heavy and bulky older unit. I paired these with another brand powered sub woofer for that extra thump (but these DXR15s have surprisingly solid bass in contour mode without a sub). I would always recommend using a sub to take the stress off these mains - but quite honestly, these things can handle a lot. They are built solid and will impress the crowd. Perfect addition to my traveling DJ business.

The DXR 15'S are some , ,mighty fine speakers. The lows are clear, punchy and focused. The mids & highs are defined and sharp. I find this model Yamaha mains to be more musical and warm than other models in it's class, including bccvJBL & QSC. My only complaint was that one of the grills were damaged when I opened the box. It doesn't affect the tone at all, but it does detract somewhat from the appearance.

The DXR15 is such great value. It's powerful, and has great low end, whilst remaining perfectly portable. It's great for a mobile-DJ (I'm one) that doesn't want to have to carry around a subwoofer. The soundstage and detail is unlike other PA speakers out there. This one can get louder while keeping the distortion at lower levels. Plus, it has a 7 year warranty! Crazy.

The reason I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 stars is because of the weight for carrying these speakers. For portability they could have made it a tiny bit lighter, other than that, this speaker is awesome.

Comments about Yamaha DXR15 15" Active Speaker:

These speakers have a punch with or without a sub. I love the clarity and definition of sound. I bought a sub for larger events but honestly these should handle 90% of my gigs. I recommend you demo these against all the other speakers in it's class and you will know what I am talkin' about!

Comments about Yamaha DXR15 15" Active Speaker:

I DJ Weddings with these Speakers Weekly after using for approximately 5 months, I noticed the speakers starting having a really BAD buzz when certain notes are hit in many Rap/Hip Hop Songs. This happens without the volume even being cranked all the way up.
