Overview

The DSR112 Active Loudspeaker features an ideal combination of advanced digital sound processing and the latest acoustic technologies for Integral Digital Tuning, plus Yamaha's D-CONTOUR (Dynamic-CONTOUR) multi-band dynamic processing for Intelligent Dynamic Control. The DSR112 is loaded with 2 Class-D amplifiers with a PFC (Power Factor Correction) switching mode power supply. One amplifier deliver 850 watts to a premium grade 12" neodymium woofer with 3" voice coil and a second amplifiers supplies 450 watts to a large 2" high purity titanium diaphragm, neodymium, high frequency compression driver. A LTBD (Long Throw, Broad Dispersion) Constant Directivity Waveguide Horn spreads the sound across 90∞ x 60∞. The DSR112 has an impressive maximum SPL of 134dB peak.

FIR-X tuning
The digital crossover networks use high-order FIR (Finite Impulse Response) filters providing linear phase response. Yamaha's proprietary FIR-X tuning technology simultaneously optimizes frequency and phase response, whilst adjusting the time alignment between the HF and LF transducers. The end result is substantially higher sound quality than can be achieved with conventional analog crossovers.

High Power DSP and 24-bit Discrete ADCs and DACs
All signals are precisely processed by a 48-bit internal processing, (76-bit accumulator), high-performance processor for optimum sound quality. The DSR Series speakers employ high-precision discrete ADCs and DACs with superior S/N ratio and dynamic range. The analog signal is transmitted on dual channels, converted to digital and summed inside the processor. By using this algorithm, an approximately 3dB improvement in S/N ratio was realized. FIR-X tuning provides for the smoothest possible crossover transitions.

D-CONTOUR (Dynamic-CONTOUR)
The D-CONTOUR multiband dynamic processor constantly monitors the amplifier output levels and adjusts the control system. This in turn varies the amount of boost in each frequency band, providing an ideal balance of dynamic sound with consistent clarity at all volume levels. D-CONTOUR can be turned on or off depending on the acoustic environment and type of sound desired.

1300W (LF 850W, HF450W) High Power, High Sound Quality Class-D Amplifiers
Yamaha's next-generation Class-D amplifiers deliver as much as 1300W of power with precision damping for tight and crisp sound from compact, lightweight modules. Through the ideal combination of amplifiers, transducers and DSP, the DSR Series loudspeakers provide the highest levels of power in their class, while maintaining precise dynamics and sound reproduction. Efficiency is such that convection cooling is all that is necessary, eliminating the need for fans.

Full Resonance Switching Mode Power Supply with PFC (Power Factor Correction)
The DSR Series employs a Yamaha-developed high efficiency switching mode power supply with PFC. The full resonance switching method uses both voltage resonance and current resonance, creating a clean power supply waveform with minimal high frequency noise. PFC harmonizes the phases of the load current and power supply voltage, maximizing power output and ensuring stable operation under severe conditions. This clean, efficient power supply enables the entire speaker system to achieve its full performance potential.

3-Way Fail-Safe Protection
To ensure the highest possible reliability, the DSR Series employs many of the same protection functions used in Yamaha's top-class TXn Series professional power amplifiers. These functions protect all aspects of the power supply, power amplifier modules and transducers so that they can operate to their full potential while ensuring fail-safe operation even under the most severe conditions.

The DSR112 performs as main PA and floor monitor and is stand and pole mountable, with a 35mm pole socket. M10 rigging points allow for suspended installation.

Note: The limited warranty on DSR-Series loudspeakers is extended to five years. In addition, all qualified DSR purchasers, thus far, are also retroactively covered by this extension, from the date of original sale.

Comments about Yamaha DSR112 Active Loudspeaker:

I upgraded my DJ rig 5 years ago starting with 2 DSR115s. They sounded great! They were loud, warm and clear. To get even more bass for some of today's recorded music I added 2 DSR118 subs about 3 years ago. This had been an awesome and impressive set up. It easily handled crowds of 500+ with room to spare. I bought 2 DSR112s just to have a smaller haul and, with the subs, they too sounded great!
I was scheduled to DJ the VIP tent at a local Craft Beer festival this past spring. We were expecting a crowd of around 1200. They showed up. The VIP tent was about 11,000sf. I wanted some more power so I ordered 2 more DSR118 subs. Only one was arrived in time for the event. I was worried I wouldn't have enough fire power. My worry was unwarranted. The two DSR115s, two DSR112s and three DSR118s provided plenty of sound, with room to spare! I even had one of the volunteers tell me folks in the back of the tent were having to shout just to hear one another.
The sound was loud, clear, non-abrasive and warm. You could feel the thump at the opposite end of the tent. My tribute to Prince had the floor packed! The DSR product easily covered the entire space and outside with great sound that you could also feel. I was asked to come back next year on the spot! The Yamaha DSR line up provides great sound! I highly recommend them!

Comments about Yamaha DSR112 Active Loudspeaker:

I bought a couple to try as a monitor, they are so crystal clean and powerful I bought 6 more, and have ordered the DSR115. l run a small sound company and still play in a Classic Rock Band. I used these as monitors and mains (with subs) at my lsat gig and they performed exceptionally. I plan on buying more.

    Yamaha DSR made a statement

    By Thanarath Chanthavisay

    from Anaheim, CA.

Comments about Yamaha DSR112 Active Loudspeaker:

I sold all my 4 ways pasive PA system and bought two DSR112 and two DSR118W. I bought this setup from my local guitar center Fountain Valley, CA on June 2011. This setup is for a live band playing for 300-500 people even. I have played thru this setup many times since and am very happy with it. My band members said WOW, they are small and all fitted inside on one minivan, not as the old passive PA system took one minivan and two pick up trucks. The fans who used to see and hear us play could not believe their ears that sound comming out from this setup is so big, detail and very punchy. I chose the DSR112+DSR118W because of how the Yamaha engineer splitted the 450W of power to Hi and the 850W to Low. That alone make more sense than the other brands. Because we all know that the Low (woofer)needs more power than the Hi (Tweeter). Yamaha has been keeping their quality very consistant. The size is small enough and the weigh is OK. The DSR sounds very musical, very warm vocal is the main thing in Live sound I personally like. The DSR amplifiers are very powerful they matched well with speakers and never seem to run out of power as the other brands when pushing at a very high level(loud). The price is about right. Prior to buy this setup, I was looking at Mackie, EV, JBL, QSC,and many more brands at $500 to $1700 range. If I can ask is to have Yamaha put two handles on DSR112, one per side like the DSR115 does. I know using both hands carrying it feels more secure then one hand. Keep up the good work Yamaha and the Guitar Center is the place where I shop the most.

    Very impressive speaker offering

    By Scott Bolt

    from New Hudson, MI

Comments about Yamaha DSR112 Active Loudspeaker:

I play in a band and play as a solo artist. My rig was all passive 15" tops over 18" folded horns and was not portable enough. I started reading reviews and auditioning speakers around 5 months ago. After lots of discussion and thought, I decided to limit my choices to speakers that I could test side by side at GC. This unfortunately ruled out the new Peavy powered tops which have an interesting ribbon tweeter and the EV ELX line which GC does not carry on their floor (they can order it). I further decided to skip the Mackie HD's due to multiple reviewers complaining about reliability issues (I did find a few favorable reviews on their sound though). This left the QSC KW, JBL PRX, and Yamaha DSR. I tested these speakers with a combination of thump and precision vocal music. I also tested the speakers with my own vocals using an EV ND767a microphone and a Taylor guitar. I tested at moderate and high volumes. I tested the maximum volume that the speakers would go to before clipping. All speakers were auditioned alone (no sub) with any HPF off and any eq tricks off. I used a Presonus digital mixer and the parametric eq to set each speaker to the most pleasing sound at moderate volumes and then pushed until things fell apart ;) The QSC KW112 and K12 both sounded good at moderate volumes and needed very little eq to sound good (boosted a bit at ~125 to get a bit more punch). At higher volumes, it was like the limiter for the low driver just stopped and the tweeter got louder creating an unpleasent and harsh tone at higher volumes. The JBL PRX 612 required a little boost at 125 and some cut at 800 with some definition added around 2K. The speaker sounded good the entire range of its output and experienced only a little harshness at max volume. This speaker was also the lightest of the bunch and the least expensive. I was set to buy it until .... The Yamaha DSR112 came out the gate with a bit too much HF for my taste so I cut some in the 2-4K range... just a bit. As the volume was turned up, these speakers simply sounded fantastic. The bottom was way more round and punchy that all the other speakers tested. The clarity was also better on vocals. At max volume, I suspect that these speakers could carry a 200-300 person event with subs and sound great doing it. The final test of all the speakers was just me and my guitar. If I wasn't sold on the DSR's before, this would have done it hands down. The somewhat noticeable clarity difference on recorded music turned into a clear differentiator with live play. I have had these for about 1 week and played with my band with them over my subs. The impact and clarity of the DSR112 is in the close to the same level of the JBL SRX715 with the SRX getting the lead for being a little smoother on the highs and packing a little more punch in the low mids. For those of you that know the SRX line, you are undoubtedly scratching your head (or shaking it in disbelief), but the DSR112 actually delivers only slightly less performance at price $$$$ .... and it has its own amp built in. They are a bit heavy at 47lbs (compared to the feather light PRX612 at only 34lbs), but the sound is well worth the additional 13lbs. As for features, it has fly points if you need that, it has mic/line input levels, a contour button (boost bottom and high for lower volume stuff), a HPF for use with a sub, and the ability to turn off the front power on LED. It has an XLR and 1/4" input and an XLR through. It can be used as a monitor wedge. Look and feel, it looks like a speaker ;) OK, I actually like the look of the JBL better, but they are good looking speakers as far as speakers go. If you are in the market for a powered speaker in this price range, you are going to be pleasantly surprised with the power and capability available today on the market, and the DSR112 leads the pack. Go give it a listen.

    DSR series is fantastic

    By Ken

    from Somerville NJ

Comments about Yamaha DSR112 Active Loudspeaker:

Both the 12 and 15 inch version of the DSR series from Yamaha are high powered speakers that sound fantastic. In comparison to the JBL600 and QSC K series these are at the exact level of quality. They are somewhat heavy, but they have some serious guts to them. They are very warm, and extremely powerful. Along with a sub, they sound even better.
