Overview

The Yamaha DGX-660 is the latest ensemble digital piano to showcase a variety of interactive features that make learning, playing and sharing music fun for everyone. The new Piano Room feature of this Portable Grand lets you choose from a variety of pianos and acoustic settings to create your very own personal piano environment.

Yamaha keyboards are known for their versatility. Now you can connect a microphone to the instrument so you can sing along while you play, and hear your voice with digital effects through the built-in speakers. You can even record your performance to a USB device to share with your friends and family!

World-class concert grand piano sound with Pure CF sampling
The Pure CF Sound Engine is the result of years of piano-making history combined with state-of-the-art sampling technology and piano expertise. Yamaha is the industry leader in digital piano technology, and you can hear this in the Voices that utilize the Pure CF piano sample. The sound of the renowned Yamaha CFIIIS 9' concert grand piano is faithfully reproduced, allowing for incredible dynamics and expressiveness, making the DGX-660 worthy of the Yamaha name.

Authentic piano touch, 88-note weighted GHS keyboard
The Yamaha Graded Hammer Standard (GHS) keyboard features a weighted action with heavier touch in the low end and lighter touch in the high end, just like the hammers inside an acoustic piano. Great for the aspiring pianist, practicing on the GHS action builds the proper finger technique and strength for when the time comes to perform on an acoustic piano.

A truer sound with Damper Resonance
Damper Resonance digitally reproduces the sympathetic vibration between strings on acoustic pianos. Just like an acoustic piano, when the damper pedal is used in a performance, other strings add sonic color to the notes you play until the pedal is released.

Easy-to-read score and lyric display
The crystal-clear LCD can be switched to score or lyric display, showing you notation for any MIDI song that the DGX-660 is playing. Read the music for your favorite built-in songs, or follow along with songs downloaded to a USB device from Yamaha MusicSoft. Even see the score for songs you've created yourself on the DGX-660.

Sound like a pro
Smart Chord makes you sound like a professional pianist, even if you're just learning how to play. With a single finger on your left hand, Smart Chord will create entire chords, from simple pop triads to complex jazz 7th and 9th chords. Accompaniment Styles create the rest of your virtual band so you can get straight to playing music.
Style Recommender - Choose styles the easy way
Style Recommender helps you find Styles quickly and easily when you know how the music should feel, but don't know which Style is right for the part. Simply play a few notes in the rhythm of the song you want to perform, and Style Recommender will offer a list of matching Styles to choose from.

Let your mobile music device be heard
Use the AUX IN to connect your portable music player or even another instrument to the DGX-660, and hear the playback through the built-in speakers. The DGX-660's speaker system is powerful, clear and fine-tuned for playing back music of all types.

I've had this keyboard for a month now and love it. The keys feel good (full 88 with hammer action and touch sensitivity), which is the #1 priority for me. The piano sound is very good (#2 priority) and can be tweaked to suit your needs (such as the "lid open/closed/half" option to sound like grand piano).

I mostly use this to practice at home, but sometimes need to take it on the road, so I needed something semi-portable. With the keyboard portion of this being just over 40 pounds, it's a little heavy, but manageable by myself. The stand is very sturdy, but I'm not a fan of the 4 pan head screws to hold it down, wing bolts would be better if you need to move it frequently so you don't have to get a screwdriver out. For now, I've just opted to use a portable folding stand and packed up the original heavy stand.

As far as features go, this has way more than I'll ever use, but I wanted to buy it "just in case" I need the extra voices for a gig (such as playing an oboe book in a pit orchestra). Only complaint I have is that there are so many features that it adds a learning curve to the user interface - it's not immediately intuitive.

The speakers have plenty of volume capability - I just played an outdoor memorial day service and only had it turned up 3/4 of the way and it was easily audible without an amp. I received many compliments on how it sounded. I haven't tried the microphone jack (1/4") but plan to do that in the future.

I didn't realize it, but this keyboard also comes with a small sustain pedal/foot switch. I ended up buying a nicer full size pedal when I bought the keyboard and I'll keep the Yamaha pedal as a backup (I like the bigger more realistic pedal better).

I originally was going to b go with a Casio Privia 860 which looked, sounded and felt much better than the Yamaha. But due to 4th of july sale I went ahead and gave Yamaha a chance. After about a week the left speaker started to sound distorted when playing keys in the upper register. I at that point knew I should have went with my gut and gotten the casio privia . I took this back and got it exchanged out. This product should not have had these issues after a week of having it. Also I think when it comes to great sound you should take a look at a couple of other models before you decide on this one.

I just bought it, and I'm already amazed by the sound of it. If you close your eyes it feels and sounds like a real acoustic piano. When buying, I was trying to decide between this one and a Casio CGP-700, and I'm glad I chose this one, nothing wrong with the Casio, they're both great, but this is one of best if not the best digital piano i've owned. the only downside is that it's very heavy compared to others.

Comments about Yamaha DGX660 88-key Portable Grand:

I did a lot of research before choosing this piano as I'm a beginner pianist coming from being an experienced guitarist. Sound and playability were my first criteria and all other stuff is secondary since I have midi keyboard gear. The sound is nothing short of astounding and the piano room is what I use the most. The sound of the grand piano gets me every time - such an evocative sound. I wanted keys that have a natural hammer action so that I will learn proper technique. Being new to pianos but having messed around on other pianos they feel as natural to me although I have little knowledge and have to trust what other experienced people have told me. I mainly wanted a piano for composing and I have found that this piano is helping me in such tasks. The size is great as it fits perfectly in my home without being too big. It is heavy and I wouldn't call it portable since it doesn't have protection built into it for bumps etc. when gigging. And 40lbs is some serious exercise but if you're a professional musician I'm sure that lugging this and other gear around is not an issue. The pedal that came with it is meh !! I bought another real pedal that is a lot easier to use and pedals are actually quite cheap - I got an M-audio SP-2 pedal which is really good for the price and compatible.

The headphone and audio output are probably my biggest gripe. The headphone socket is the only audio output and as a result if you plug in your headphones to a mixing desk you lose the sound from the speakers on the piano. This is a PITA. There should be a separate line-out so that you can take the audio output to a mixing desk or DAW. This is a step backward IMO since headphone level has to be adjusted to give correct line levels. The functionality is a bit overwhelming and I haven't honest had a chance to throughly explore yet. More fun for me !!!

Bottom-line: I'm very very happy with this beautiful sounding piano. It makes me want to play and keeps beckoning me.....

Comments about Yamaha DGX660 88-key Portable Grand:

This is a great product from Yamaha. I'm still working my way through all of the controls, as there is a lot that this machine does. Though it's not outwardly advertised, it has a wireless controller that can be purchased separately that gives it some extra capabilities when paired with some of Yamaha's iOS apps. The weighted keys feel great, and are some of the closest I've felt to a real piano. Love the piano room feature and is the most used section on my piano. Was fairly easy to assemble, taking about 30 minutes but is very heavy when assembled and would be difficult to "gig" with.

The sound quality is awesome for its' size and the keyboard action makes it very easy to play. There are so many modes to choose from which makes it fun and flexible.

Comments about Yamaha DGX660 88-key Portable Grand:

Action is very good... not "real piano" perfect, but absolutely close enough to not alter playing style unlike "synth action" which is a jolt to switch to a real piano afterwards. For the price, it was far superior to any other digital piano or synth in the price neighborhood on piano action.
Sound for piano specifically is VERY good... total sound bank is so-so, probably 20-30% may see usage, but I mostly want good piano above all, so works for me. For someone wanting a synth workstation, the sounds will probably be limiting and need augmentation.
Midi - requires weird adapter or direct PC connection. If I'd realized this point's full impact I may have reconsidered as I have a traditional MIDI workstation rig, but that wasn't the prime purchasing point. I wish it had a traditional midi port or two, given it's great (for the price) key bed it'd be a great controller with a synth module or two added to customize sounds. But plan on PC integration for any flexibility (either via the wifi-midi interface, or PC-USB). I wish it had an adapter to go from the USB port to a cabled MIDI port, that'd be an inexpensive option to add greater flexibility. C'est la vie.

I thought I had just ordered the keyboard, but the wood stand and the sustain pedal were in the box as well. Which if I ordered that package would have been about $100 more.

Same screen as the yoga 625 that everyone has had trouble with. Yamaha will not stand behind the screen.

I am really loving my new Yamaha DGX keyboard! I'm so glad I waiting to get the white option! Very classy looking and easier to read the controls. I am a beginning and play every day. It feels and sounds like a real piano. I had a Casio prior (until my son took it when he moved out on his own) In my opionion, there is no comparison in the overall quality, feel and sound. i love all the available options/features. I just wish there were tutorials to teach and explain each one. The manual is not very helpful for a newbie. All in all i am thrilled with my YamahaDGX 660!

Overall I am very pleased with this keyboard and I am having a lot of fun exploring it. The onboard sounds are awesome.

I'm sure that it will take time for me to become familiar with all its features. The only thing that I don't like is the weight. "Portable" is not a good description.
