Overview

The Yamaha Copper Nouveau Snare Drum cuts through loud music yet has a warmer tone than other metal shells. It also has enhanced low frequencies for darker tones that work well in just about all musical situations. The quick-release low-contact Nouveau lugs allow the shell to vibrate for a more resonant drum and wide dynamic range. They also allow much quicker head changes because the tension rods don't have to be removed to take off the hoop.

A detachable strainer and butt allow you to remove the snare wires for snare-side head changes and reattach them quickly with a single drum key screw. A tension indicator lets you easily reset your snares to their former tension.

2.3mm Dyna Hoop
The 2.3mm thick triple flange Dyna Hoops are strong, giving you precise tuning while allowing the drum to open up.

Great snare

By AJ

from NY

Comments about Yamaha Copper Nouveau Snare:

I've had the 6.5" model for about 7 months. You can tune this snare down for "hit you in the chest" power, or tune it up and you'll sound like a smoother, more musical version of Paice or Bonham. You might even sound as good as Gadd, Vinnie C., or Bruford. ;) Nothing harsh or boxy about this drum, unless you are a total wreck at tuning and/or head selection. First thing you do, get rid of the stock heads. I've used a PC Rev Dot, ST Dry, and Jack DeJohnette (+ Hazy 300 or Attack Bozzio reso) on this and they all worked well. However, to my ears this drum didn't jibe with the EC Rev Dot. YMMV. Mechanically, the Nouveau's and snare scheme work fine, no problems there. It's also sensitive enough, given the 6.5" depth. The stock wires are OK, but on this drum I like the sound & feel I get from bell brass 20 or 24 strand. Has very good resonance but not too much annoying metal-shell ring. Just for kicks, I mounted some die-cast hoops and it blew me away even more - slightly tighter and a tad more highs and bite but it didn't become nasty like some with die-casts. So, why pay more? Cough up 4 bills and you'll have as good [or better] a snare sound as any of the pricey Cravs, Sonor Artists, Warlords, or N&Cs...unfortunately for THEM. Haha! I give it 4.5 stars, only because I'm not crazy about the looks of the Nouveau lugs.

By jon castelli

Comments about Yamaha Copper Nouveau Snare:

I had bought this drum about 6 months ago and it is awsome. I own the 14x6.5 version of this snare. I have an aquerian head on it with a dampining ring and beats any snare i have ever palyed. It has the metal sound but the warmth of a wooden snare. I would recomend this snare to any drummer no matter waht level he/she plays. Great job Yamaha

Amazing Snare Drum!

By Lil' Drumma Boi

from Syracuse, New York

Comments about Yamaha Copper Nouveau Snare:

I own the 14''x6.5'' model of this snare drum and it is the best purchase I have ever made. It has the attack of metal snare drum, but also the warmth of a wood snare. I have used this drum in all sorts of different musical applications from quiet to very loud and it has never let me down. Whether it is tuned high or low it has a strong attack and response and a great all around sound. Changing heads is very easy and convenient with the detachable lugs (it takes less than 3 minutes ti change heads.)Whether you play jazz or metal, loud or soft, etc., this snare drum can do it all. It costs a little more money, but it is a worthy investment and once more I am very satisfied with Yamaha!

Greatest Snare Drum Out There!

By dandaPaIsTeman

from Syracuse, NY

Comments about Yamaha Copper Nouveau Snare:

I bought this snare a few months ago and all I have to say is that it is brilliant. I have the 14x6.5'' model and the depth of the drum really makes project. There is a good balance of warmth and that loud, sharp crack that metal drums have. I have used this drum in all sorts of applications and the sound has never let me down. I just put a Remo Powerstroke 4 as my batter and it is amazing. The factory head that came with it was pretty good as well, but if you tuned it too high, you can get a lot of high pitched overtones. Also the lugs are extremely convenient for quick head changes and the snare strainer is great and easy to adjust. Overall this snare is amazing and I recommend everyone to put forward a little more money to buy it!

It's not wood, but it'll do...

By GearFreak

from CA

Comments about Yamaha Copper Nouveau Snare:

This snare has unbelievable features; the lugs and strainer mechanism are innovative and very road ready. The whole thing screams quality, and the shell is pretty thick compared to other brands - VERY heavy. People say the sound of copper is close to wood, but its still a metal snare. Some of the warmth and darker tones get overidden by the up front crack and pop of the metal shell. I found that tuning it high with a one ply batter head gave a very ringy high pitched 'ping' which isn't stellar in the studio. In the mix of a live band however, its got a great midrange crack that projects like a steel shell, only mellower. Overall its a fantastic instrument for metal drum lovers, and carries the same amazing quality as other Yamaha products. I genuinley think this is a better quality snare than DW's copper shell one. If you don't believe me take a look for yourself.

Versality has become through

By Miguel Yudelevich

from Santiago. Chile

Comments about Yamaha Copper Nouveau Snare:

I remember I was attending some lessons at DC and a French friend told me HEY LET`S CHECK OUT THE GUITAR CENTER PRESIDENT`S DAY SALES!!! I said OK I dont have money but well, lets go... I started to try several snares drums just for fun, and the salesperson asked me if I was looking for something special, I said, well not at all but just for asking, is there any metallic snare drum with a warm sound? I wasnt expecting to buy it but since I tried the 14x5.5 Copper I felt in love. I dont know how, I saw myself buying this drum by half the regular price thinking OH GOD!!! how Im going to take this to my home in Chile, well Im not gonna worry about that yet, just enjoy. So you can figure out myself into the subway with a huge box, with my bag and a big jacket (it was very cold). Since then, 2 years ago till now, I have recorded diferent type of music, played with diferent bands, I have recorded 2 albums and Im still in love with it. The Copper characteristics allows me to get an incredible wooded-sound, getting the most of the metallic features. The rimshots are incredible and cuts thru the band. The noveau system makes me change the heads just in a few seconds and the snare removal system keeps the tension of the snare when you change the snare head. It`s a little heavy-weighted but I dont care. It doesnt matter what head you use (I have tried many brands and models) it always makes you feel satisfied with its sound but I recommend Remo Powerstroke 3 or coated ambassador heads on top and despite it comes with a yamaha-remo (USA) head, I suggest change it for a Remo clear snare. This drum is my main snare drum and anything else became secondary. I can get many diferent sounds, just change the tuning and head. Versality has become through Sorry for my english, not the best really but I really wanted to share my experience with you Good Luck Miguel Yudelevich www.miguelyudelevich.cl
