Yamaha's Club Concert series features refinements aimed at permanent installations with an elastomeric spray coating that easily fits any décor, is very tough, and readily paintable to match surroundings. The audio speaker's steel grilles are foam-lined with acoustically transparent material to provide a more subdued appearance.
Assembled by hand by skilled technicians, each speaker cabinet is designed for better low-end response and includes heavy steel handles and sturdy pole sockets to make moving and positioning easy. These CW218V subwoofers have custom drivers from Eminence that feature high-strength curvilinear cones and Kapton voice coil formers, plus oxygen-free copper voice coils and oversize strontium ferrite magnets to provide high power handling and long life. 15" and 18" drivers use cast aluminum frames to support the massive magnet structure, eliminate flex, and dissipate heat.
The titanium diaphragm compression drivers are mated to 90 degree x 40 degree custom-designed horns. Internal electronics feature over-built crossover networks and overload protection. I purchased the Yamaha CW218V and a QSC GX5 amp to power it from Guitar Center last month. I paid less than what is now advertised on the website. The first time I ran the CW218V at max volume (with clipping) on my GX5 for ~10 mins to Miami Bass music, I could smell some speaker burn. The GX5 at 4-ohms puts out 850W on a single channel at .1% clipping. I suspect I was close to double that with lots of clipping. Since then, I've ensured the volume does not clip too much and have had very good experience with this sub when facing a wall in my house. When I stand between sub and the wall at max volume, my vision blurs slightly as the vibration really shakes me (wearing ear protection)! I'd consider buying another one for the other channel on the GX5. I need a discount card :)
It don't play around in the sound it handles a lot of power and give great sound pressure. They sound better that Crewin Vega. They have more punch in bass note than most.
