Value for money!

By Ralph Kelly

from Scotland

Comments about Yamaha CPX500 Jumbo Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Well worth the money. I love it.
I bought this to replace my ageing Eros acoustic. I also wanted an electro for recording in my home studio. Sounded really nice in the shop and beat the heck out of the Fender I was originally interested in. Much warmer sound and a better looking guitar. I like the electronics with the parametric mid range control as well as treble and bass. This gives a much better control over the sound through an amp.
I use a Roland X30 cube with amp modelling at home and playing through the clean channel with a touch of chorus makes the Yamaha sound like a very expensive 12 string! A bonus.
Nice finish, probably slightly better than you'd expect for the cash. I did try the APX but prefered the sound from this one.

good value a/e jumbo

By Mark Adams-IIQV2

Comments about Yamaha CPX500 Jumbo Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I started researching acoustic/electric jumbo's that would have the deep tone and projection I was looking for and came across this guy. After a month I'm extremely satisfied with the guitar, sounds great unplugged and plugged in sounds awesome. The built in tuner works great, extremely convenient and easy to use. I would recommend this guitar to anyone looking for a quality jumbo.

CPX 500

By Wallyman

Comments about Yamaha CPX500 Jumbo Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Not alot of info on the net on this one. Not sure how many pickups at the bridge its either 1 or 2. This guitar has a very nice sound to it, really hard to believe its a laminate top. But some of the best sounding guitars are the old Yamahas from the 70's with laminate tops. I bought this guitar without even plugging it in. I loved the unplugged sound its very even toned. I plugged it in when I got home to an acoustic amp and it sounds fantastic. Has a professional sound to it maybe a tad on the bright side but thats how I like it. I had an older Takamine A/E and it had a solid top and back. Plugged in the Yamaha blows it away. Action is okay. Finish is nice. I tried the CPX 500 FM and found it had less volume and the contrast between front and side was too much. The CPX is much nicer than the APX, spend the extra 50 bucs.

Great guitar

By Dan

from Ma.

Comments about Yamaha CPX500 Jumbo Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

What can I say I really like this guitar. It has great action, stays in tune, and has a really warn tone. The overall qaulity of this guitar is fantastic. I wouldn't take the time to write something I didn't believe in. For the price you will not find a better guitar. I was looking for a new guitar and didn't want to spend more then $400, I had a Epliphone Les Paul Studio in one hand and this guitar in the other. I bought the Les Paul thinking I would play it more then the acoustic but couldn't stop thinking of the Yamaha so two days later I returned the Les Paul and took home the Yamaha.

great tone dynamics

By Bill Huff

from crossett, arkansas

Comments about Yamaha CPX500 Jumbo Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have played this guitar (CPX5-VS) for about 5 years now. The sound of this instrument sold me after playing many of the other brands. The electronics are very quite and functional. I also own a FG340T which is almost 30 years old now, and the tone is remarkable with the age.

I bought this guitar in the dark red sunburst finish and I love it! It sounds great unplugged and if you play with the electronics it sounds great in an acoustic amp. Awesome value and awesome quality. Nice job Yamaha!

Best guitar for the money

By Greg

from Rhode Island

Comments about Yamaha CPX500 Jumbo Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

very pleased with the guitar, great looking and sounding instrument. Good when pluged in, all controls work nicely. Love the built in tuner. I do not recomend having the guitar being UPS shipped. Box was in fair condition but, The guitar did have some minor scratches in the finish. Nothing that wouldnt happen over time but when its new you want it perfect. Very happy with the over the phone service from guitar center. After ordering the guitar I realised that I was going to be away on vacation when the package arived at my home. I called the corperate number and they shipped it second day for no extra cost. it arived 2 dats before I left.

Tweak it and it's great!

By sokudo10

Comments about Yamaha CPX500 Jumbo Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

So, I have been looking for a electro-acoustic for a while and came across this one. The price was right and of course, it sounded great unplugged. I went to plug it in and after some tweaking of the electronics, this guitar sounded great plugged in! I'm not a fan of Yamaha's preamp or piezo's but this lower end CPX gives you great sound plugged or unplugged at a price you can't refuse!

Deployment Guitar

By Workahollis

from Aviano, Italy

Comments about Yamaha CPX500 Jumbo Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought this to take with me to the desert along with a hard case. It can't replace my Ovation 1719. But it seems like a decent value for substitution and worry free guitar transport. It sounds very nice I was surpized. The first thing I did was rip off the ugly pickguard and rubbed off the glue. Then I oiled the inside with Old English. This brought out even more tone. I especially love the on board tuner.

One heck of a buy

By GuitAr mAstEr

from Andover, Kansas

Comments about Yamaha CPX500 Jumbo Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

Ive had this guitar since august. it hasn't let me down so far. it stays in tune and has a great sound and feel. the only reason i rated this guitar a four is because this isnt the best guitar on the market. but if you want quality and excellent performance, this Yamaha is the way to go. if you do order this guitar as you should, i would recommend a guitar polish(and dont forget a cloth), and medium/hard picks. i also found that is guitar sound extremely well plugged in to a Roland Acoustic Chorus amp. Yamaha has made a great product and it would be a shame not to but it.
