As a lifelong guitar player but new to Flamenco I thought I would give this a try. I have 2 Yamaha nylon sting guitars, a CGX-171CCA and an NTX-1200 that I like but they cost a lot more than this CG172SF so I wondered if it would be good. Well it is, it sounds great and my Flamenco playing is getting better. The top is solid and thin, I think the sides may be laminated but the guitar is very light and the action is low and there is plenty of room in the saddle to lower it more. There is no trussrod but the neck has plenty of heft. This will be getting a bone nut and new strings(Luthier Popular Supreme Set 20 Medium Tension ), she is worth it!
I first tried out the NTX 700. Very nice electric/acoustic guitar, but I didn't need an electric, so my search began. I had a vintage Classical from Paracho, Michoacan. Some of the finest guitars are made in this little town in Mexico. Let's just say we had a bad fall and I no longer posess this fine instrument. I looked everywhere for something similar. No luck, until I came across this beauty. The only difference is the finish. The sound is very true to what a classical guitar should sound like. The solid spruce top definitley gives it the "boom" I've been looking for. I usually play for family and friends in living rooms or little halls. In either location the sounds of this guitar fill the room. Not to mention the matte finish. It feels amazing. I have gotten many compliments on it. Always aksked, How much did it cost? I must say Yamaha definitley knows music. I mean they make everything. I am not a professinal rather someone who plays for the love of music, Mike from GC advised on certain things to look for in a quality guitar. Somehting major, the FRETS. On this guitar just like the NTX 700 the craftmanship is, I feel, of the the highest quality. Great bang for the buck.
