So playable. So affordable. SOOO SEXY!

Comments about Yamaha BB415 5-String Bass:

I am totally floored by this bass. It was a MAJOR improvement over my Sterling. In addition to having a good sound, it is very light & feels good. Also, I have noticed that on some 5-string bass guitars, there is an over-abundance of knobs & switches. Thankfully the powers that be @ Yamaha decided to take a less-is-more approach. This keeps everything simple. I also like the old-school tone & volume knobs with the numbers on the sides. It never fails to garner a compliment when I play it live. & yes, it looks dead sexy on-stage. As any black bass guitar should. The chrome accents around the pick-ups give it an extra bit of pizazz when the lights hit it. Bottom line: If you want an affordable, uncomplicated & good sounding 5-string thing called bass but don't want to thrown down what's left of your 401(k) to get it, this guitar is for you.

Beyond basic Fit-Form-&-Function

Comments about Yamaha BB415 5-String Bass:

I had always been performing using my '65 Precision until I signed up with a heavy metal group. The musical requirements for the lower B-string range made it necessary for me to purchase a 5 or 6-string bass. The 6 didn't have the bottom needed (& the strings were too closely spaced) the 5-string's B string DID. Yamaha designed into the BB415 simplicity, ergonomics and ease of use. Even with my fat Irish fingers I had no problem navigating the fretboard fluidly. I agree the previous reviewer that Yamaha's "less-is-more" approach makes the operation of this bass on stage a pleasure. From rich warm notes for a ballad to slap-pluck of R&B to the punching/popping growl metal-rock demands this bass delivers with ease. I'm glad I added this bass to my 46-year old collection, but even more delighted playing it on a regular basis. Worth the list price, because Yamaha designs it to last.
