The Yamaha Arius Series provides true piano sound and feel. The graded-hammer keyboard of the Yamaha Arius YDP-181 digital piano makes it a true joy to play both in practice and in performance. The 3-level AWM dynamic stereo sampling voices deliver remarkably authentic sound. Moreover, the damper pedal includes a half-damper effect, giving you nuanced expressive control over the sustained sound. The Yamaha Arius digital piano's dual voice capability lets you play two different instrument sounds at the same time, while a 2-track song recorder allows you to capture original musical ideas and performances. Comes with Headphone Hanger, Song Book "50 greats for the Piano" and BC-100 Standard Bench.

Graded Hammer (GH) keyboard:
Just as on a traditional acoustic piano, lower notes on a GH keyboard have a heavier touch while the higher notes are more responsive to lighter playing. The Yamaha Arius digital piano's GH keyboard features an extra key sensor capable of reproducing fast, repetitive playing of a single note with perfect articulation.

Variable touch sensitivity:
Select the hard, medium, or soft setting to match your playing style or finger strength. Turn off sensitivity for a fixed response setting, which is ideal when playing the organ.

Advanced Wave Memory (AWM) dynamic stereo sampling:
The 88-key Yamaha Arius digital piano comes equipped with AWM (Advanced Wave Memory), a sampling system that creates the realism of an acoustic instrument by using digital technology to record the instrument sound and apply high-quality digital filter technology to the recorded audio samples. The waveform of the sound created by playing the key of an acoustic piano differs depending on the playing strength from pianissimo to fortissimo. AWM dynamic stereo sampling can produce dynamic nuances by recording samples of various playing strengths. The greater the number of samples used, the higher the expression.

128-note polyphony:
Conventional digital pianos quickly run out of notes during fast, dense legato passages: sustained notes are cut off as the instrument "steals" notes to make room for new notes. On the YDP-181, a maximum of 128 notes can be played all at once.

Damper resonance:
Damper resonance samples provide the rich and broadening tones produced in pedaling. Using these comprehensive gradations, the Yamaha Arius YDP-181 can realistically reproduce the complex sounds of a grand piano.

Half-pedal control:
Half-pedal control allows the sustain length to vary step-by-step depending on how far the pedal is pressed. The farther you press the pedal, the more the sound sustains.

Song recorder:
The electronic piano's built-in, 2-track performance memory allows you to record a backing track and then step into the spotlight and solo over it. Best of all, you can change tempo or voices even after you've recorded your performance. The Yamaha Arius digital piano also a built-in metronome to help you stay in perfect time.

50 preset piano songs:
The Yamaha digital piano also has a selection of 50 different piano songs built-in for your listening pleasure. These recordings were chosen for their beauty as well as their functionality. Since many of the songs are classic piano pieces, anyone taking lessons can use them as a reference.

Comments about Yamaha Arius YDP-181 88-Key Digital Piano with Bench:

The Yamaha Arius YDP181 brings together true piano sound and feel, for an outstanding playing experience!. In fact, if you're familiar with playing or practicing on a traditional acoustic piano, you may not even be able to tell the difference! Yamaha incorporated their high-tech sampling system into this model, so you get the full sound of a concert grand piano that reacts to everything from the softest pianissimo to the strongest fortissimo!. Anyone taking lessons will appreciate the built-in 2-track song recorder!. You can even play along with a metronome to help stay in time!. And when you want to share your performances, you can connect a USB storage device then transfer your files to your computer!. It's easy! The Arius YDP161 offers a similar set of features, without the USB capability!. If you don't use the damper pedal extensively, you may be 100% satisfied with the Arius YDP141!. It has the same features as the YDP161, just with 64-note polyhony!. All of these instruments feature a rosewood cabinet, for a look that fits into any home!.

Piano-like quality Plus more!

By Danette

Comments about Yamaha Arius YDP-181 88-Key Digital Piano with Bench:

After researching and trying many keyboards AND pianos, I ended up choosing the Yamaha Arius YDP181 88-Key Digital Piano! From researching the internet and calling many stores, I had narrowed my choices to a Suzuki micro-mini grand and the Roland Supernatural. I came to Guitar Center expecting to buy the Roland but walked out with the Yamaha! The Suzuki did not even come close to my expectations, and after many questions to my salesman, Alex Reyes, nor did the Roland. I had a Roland ep9 for 20 years and liked the sound but not the keyboard "look". Being a church pianist means I need to practice all kinds of music from church service, wedding and funeral. I also write music and LOVE the USB capability that the Yamaha offers to use with my computer software. I must say that I love the look of this keyboard because it reminds me of a spinet piano - which is what I wanted. A lot of friends come over and think that it is an actual acoustic piano instead of electronic. I was nervous about putting the cabinet together but found the directions printed right on the box! I wish more companies would do that! I'm a 44 year-old woman and had no troubles putting the cabinet together but did need help putting the electronic component on top to complete the piano. Thank you, Alex Reyes and Guitar Center for having so many choices on hand to try and answering all my questions. And, thanks for your patience as this was a big buy for me! The only "trouble" I've had is this: I had my carpets cleaned and walked across the carpet (when dry) to play the piano. There is a 3-pedal unit that comes with the cabinet, and now the damper pedal is now discolored. The solution the company used was "green" but I will try to get some brass cleaner as the discoloration would not buff off. Should anyone have any suggestions about this, please let me know.

Love my piano!

from Louisville, KY

Comments about Yamaha Arius YDP-181 88-Key Digital Piano with Bench:

I have always had an acoustic piano and was hesitant about a digital. My husband bought this for me for our 20th wedding anniversay after me trying out every piano in town. I love that it looks and sounds like an acoustic piano. Also, the keys are weighted so it feels like you are playing an acoustic. I also love the fact that I can plug in the headphones and practice and not disturb anyone else in the house. It arrived very well packed and was easy to assemble. I am loving my new piano!

I loved it. I was looking for a great piano were I can play music, record, and listen to other songs from it, also with a organ. It's wonderful and not that pricey.

Comments about Yamaha Arius YDP-181 88-Key Digital Piano with Bench:

I couldn't wait to set this piano up, however, right out of the box, there has been an occasional sputtering sound. Although I took out the pro coverage, it wouldn't make sense to keep it and bank on it being fixed and having the same issues three years from now. So, very unfortunately, I will have to find someone to disassemble and get it back to the store.

Comments about Yamaha Arius YDP-181 88-Key Digital Piano with Bench:

Preconceived idea 1: digital keyboards don't deserve to be called pianos. I reluctantly accepted the idea I needed an electronic keyboard to practice my classical music repertoire at night when my wife prefers to sleep (how strange...). I have a wonderful fifty year old baby grand from a famous German manufacturer. The Yamaha is a great companion to it, and it absolutely deserves the P in "YDP". The heavier action is a welcome practicing opportunity for me after having gotten too used to the feather light German action which I don't find on any other piano. After practicing on the YDP for two weeks I was able to sit down at a piano with a more normal action and didn't have any difficulty. The tone quality is good enough that I ended up returning an expensive set of headphones when they didn't reproduce what the YDP can do. The pedal action is somewhat less graded than most real pianos but I met similar pedal response on American pianos. I view this as "flexibility training" opportunity to accept different mechanisms.

Peconceived idea 2: Don't expect much from a giant retailer, especially with online orders. Customer care from Guitar Center was absolutely superb. They made sure that my credit card order was legit, shipped the piano in a very reasonable time to a local store in NM where the staff was very courteous and efficient.

In summary I couldn't be happier with my purchase of the YDP 181 at Guitar Center. I would recommend this piano up to intermediate level classical musicians as their primary piano and to everybody as a secondary practice piano. The Clavinova IS nicer but it is much more expensive.

Comments about Yamaha Arius YDP-181 88-Key Digital Piano with Bench:

The product was in new and beautiful condition! However, the package and top piece were quite heavy so unpacking and setting the digital piano up was a two-person job for me! The Yamaha-YDP 181 is suitable for all needs such as accompaniments or even learning. My favorite features are the key touch as you can choose if you would like the keys to be soft, medium, or hard. This digital piano is one of the closest to a grand with the sound, key touch, and more! There are absolutely no cons for this one except for the weight but that's easy to overcome with another person. The Yamaha-YDP 181 is magnificent and never fails on me, I'm more than satisfied with this purchase!
