Better than many high-end guitars

Comments about Yamaha APX500III Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I'm a professional player and purchased the black APX500III as a back-up to my Taylor 314CE which was getting a little tired from gigging. Have to say it quickly moved into the starting line-up. Changed to Martin light (10's) strings and this guitar plays like an electric. The sound is a blow-away surprise from this thin bodied instrument and it is more fun and mobile to play due to it's size. The sound is better than my Taylor and the playability is better as well. I saw a reference of the APX500III as a good beginner guitar and this is an injustice to make a statement like this. I've played since I was 8 years old and this guitar is great for professional use. May still use the Taylor in the studio but the Yamaha is my gig guitar. I've hear that Yamaha is selling a ton of these and I can see why.

Comments about Yamaha APX500III Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I love the APX500III. I choose the Dusk Sun Red, since that is a trend color with my guitars, but the Oriental Blue Burst is absolutely beautiful. This guitar is just the right size for a smaller statured person. The sound is well balanced with good bass response and good resonance for the slim line design. No it is not a booming dreadnought, but that is also why I like it. The width of the fret board is easier to play for those of us with smaller hands, the cutaway not only adds style, but ease of reach in the lower frets. The shape of the guitar nestles comfortably in the lap and allows an intimate clutch regardless of upper body part sizes for women. I play mostly sitting down, and this guitar is very comfortable doing that. I haven't plugged the guitar into an amp as yet, but I mostly play unplugged in intimate settings anyway. The tuner seems to work really well. With a little time (I know this from past experience with new guitars) the wood will open up and the 'unplugged' sound will be even better! If anyone out there is contemplating a concert sized guitar, or even just a guitar period, I would highly recommend the APX500III. I've being playing guitar for over 40 years, and mainly played big bodied 12 strings. But due to arthritis I've had to switch back to 6 strings in the last 3-4 years just to keep playing; so it is not like I am a novice guitar enthusiast! I researched guitars for over a year, went to the stores more time than the staff would really appreciate, and tried many models and sizes. I kept bounding back and comparing everything to the APX. It just fit well and played easily. The new one was set up ready to play right out of the box with just a little tuning (I had to order my color.) With any new instrument there are always adjustments you have to make getting used to playing it. My other two concert size guitars were the same. Service from the store was exceptional, shipping quick. I had a printout from another store and they matched the bundle price offering. The APX is a beautiful piece of workmanship, with a great sound, even unplugged. An absolutely beautiful instrument! If I had one criticism or rather suggestion, it would be for Yamaha to offer an open pore finish option with this model in addition to the high gloss finish. I look forward to playing this instrument for years to come.

Comments about Yamaha APX500III Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've had this guitar for a couple months. Right out of the box it sounded pretty good, but once the strings warmed up it sounded great. When plugged in, it sounds exactly like an expensive Martin, and I've actually compared the two. It's also a beautiful guitar, I have it in the natural color and it's a bit darker than a normal natural toned and looks great. Very satisfied

Comments about Yamaha APX500III Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've been plying electric guitar for nearly two years and decided it was time to get an acoustic. I bought a yamaha FG700 but took it back because it was too large for my body type. I tried the FS700 but it was still a little too big, although it sounded very good. I finally picked up thinline in black and couldn't be happier. The sound is amazing, especially considering its size. The build quality is flawless and the fretboard is smooth. The action was near perfect out of the box, much better than I expected at this price point. It sounds even better plugged and the EQ is very effective in getting a nice variety of sounds. I played a few more expensive guitars and ended up picking this one at the end because of the size, tone and playability. It feels more like a hollow body electric but sounds like any full size acoustics out there. I would buy it again without question.

Comments about Yamaha APX500III Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I have owned and played a lot of different acoustic and electric guitars over the past 30 years, but have never owned an acoustic-electric. All the other A-E models that I've played have a cheap "plinky" sound when not going through an amp, so I was highly reluctant to pay money for one. Furthermore, I've never been a fan of Yamaha. Based on the reviews of this model, as well as a handsome price tag, I thought it might be worth the gamble. Behold, even with the factory strings, I was impressed with the sonorous tones and feel of this guitar.

Comments about Yamaha APX500III Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I LOVE this guitar. It's thinline body is great for teaching beginner guitarist, and makes an easy as pie play-ability to an experienced guitarist. CHANGE THE STRINGS. New strings always make a guitar sound better, but I put Elixers on this guitar and wow whatta difference. I've already taught 4 or 5 people how to play guitar with this guitar, and this guitar taught me!

Comments about Yamaha APX500III Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I haven't even picked up a guitar in over thirty years. As I get a little older, I realized that I wanted to really learn to play. I did a lot of research online looking for the "perfect" acoustic-electric guitar for the inexperienced/novice player on a budget. The Yamaha always had great reviews so I went to my local store to sit down and play this guitar, as well as a few others in this price range. Nothing else I tried that day even came close to the sound and playability of this guitar. It has a deep, rich tone for such a thin bodied guitar. The neck is superb, and the frets feel polished and smooth. I made my purchase and immediately had a set up done and changed the strings to Elixir's based on a friend's recommendation. WOW!! The new strings made it sound even richer!! I am having a blast learning, and I look forward to practicing every chance I get. Thank you, Yamaha, for giving an older guy the gift of music again!!

Comments about Yamaha APX500III Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I was not interested in buying another guitar when I went to my local music store where I frequent for my music supply needs. As usual I took the opportunity to play a few models they had on display. The APX500III was the 3rd guitar I picked up. It's the second time I had seen it at the store but the first time playing it. I have to admit I was put off by the thin body design as I enjoy larger, deeper, dreadnought acoustics. My first impression when picking it up was the light weight, again leading me to think I shouldn't expect much out of this weird looking oval sound hole. Man was I wrong. Way wrong. The sound that this guitar produces had me hooked immediately. And more than that was the ease of play and the comfortable feel. I spent the drive home rethinking everything I had learned and researched about guitars. I told my wife about the experience and she insisted I drive back and purchase it. I didn't hesitate. I have owned this guitar for about a year now and it is still my favorite go to guitar. My family can tell when I'm playing this guitar versus my other models from another room. It really screams on the mids and highs but I'm most impressed with the low end from such a thin body lightweight guitar. Don't get me wrong, it's not in the same league as your solid body Martins or Taylor's, but for the price and feel I like it more than any other I've played in its class. This guitar has made me a better guitar player simply because I can't put the dang thing down. Yamaha really found something special in this design. Very proud owner. Highly recommend for beginners on up.

Comments about Yamaha APX500III Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've had my eye on this guitar for a while because of it's thin body. I have small hands so playing acoustic is sometimes a challenge and doesn't flow as easily as playing electric so having a thin bodied acoustic is making it easier to play acoustic more often. I play for fun but could see using it for small scale performances. I love how light weight and easy to carry around it is!

Being only 5 feet tall, I had thought it would be difficult to find my first guitar that would be comfortable in my hands. This was this the first guitar I looked at and I feel in love with the black color along with the size. Ever since I got it it has been so easy to wrap my hands around it including staying in tune. I have also bummed it into many things and it is still in perfect condition. This really encouraged me to start playing the guitar and I will hopefully will be getting a full electric guitar soon.
