I got this guitar for Christmas, because I have always wanted to play guitar and finally decided to start. I'm in a band and play drums, but a friend in my band who plays guitar and used to work at guitar center recommended this one to me when we went to the store to look. It is a great guitar for beginners to learn on, like me, and intermediate players as well. It sounds excellent for the price, and is versatile for any style playing, especially being acoustic-electric. I have smaller hands, and was looking into luna guitars designed for women with smaller hands, but this one felt great when I tried it and I immediately made up my mind to buy this. The neck is not too big, and I can fit my hands comfortably around it to play solos and chords. The body is thinner than most other acoustics and classical guitars, so you can play comfortably sitting or standing. The sunburst color and gloss finish look awesome, and the built-in tuner is very nice as well for a quick tune up or when you don't have a tuner on hand. I would definitely recommend this guitar to anyone who either wants to start playing or for those with experience that want a great quality guitar without breaking the bank.
The Yamaha APX500II is a great deal. After playing several other slim bodied acoustic models, it beat them all hands down, both unamplified and through the amp. On its own, the APX has a really decent mid-range sound with a nice high end sparkle. It can't compete with the full, deep sound of my dreadnoughts, but I wouldn't expect it to. It is a slim body design, after all. The guitar is very comfortable to play. Fast neck that feels really good. The tuning machines are okay. Under the saddle pickup does provide a sharper tone through the amp than I would like, but still not all that bad. The battery compartment is secure and easy to access. Takes two AA's. The 3 band eq is pretty standard, but has an interesting mid-range high/low level. Garden variety onboard tuner is very handy. All of this stuff is thoughtfully placed and is completely out of the way while playing the instrument. The only thing I really don't like about this guitar is the rosette. It is plastic and appears to be simply glued onto the guitar. Nothing major, but I think Yamaha could have done better without spending much more money at all. All in all, this is a great little guitar. Can't beat it for the price at GC.
PROS: 1.The size of this guitar is excellent for people with small hands! 2.Excellent sound with AMP. 3.with 7 different colors to chose from FM in my opinion is the best color of them all. 4. Good for beginners and experienced players. CONS: 1. the only thing i dislike about this guitar is without a AMP. the sound can be low. *but it still sound amazingly great! without it compared to other guitars that i had bought*
