I just got this guitar the other day after having searched for weeks for the right acoustic-electric for me. Other models I looked at were the APX500 and the Epiphone PR5-E. This guitar outplays the latter and is a step up from the former due to the new top and different finish. The pictures simply do not do it justice; it is a beautiful guitar. It is also a quality manufactured instrument; in no way does it feel cheap. The pre-amp, contrary so some views, is actually very good. The tuner works well, and I find myself using it a lot since these new strings often go out of tune as they are not settled in yet. This guitar sounds absolutely great plugged in. Even with a smaller body, the rich, deep lows can be heard through the amp. The neck is also pretty fast, and the action is above average. I already have received a comment saying that this guitar plays like an electric. It really does. If you are looking in to buying a solid, well-built, and long-lasting acoustic-electric guitar, do not take this off your list of ones to try out. It easily out-played $400 and $500 Takamine guitars and has a bright, rich tone suitable for many types of players. I am more than satisfied!

I REALLY wanted to love this guitar. Yamaha always makes a great guitar for the price and this one in particular was beautiful to look at and felt wonderful to play. The action was great and the weight and comfort of the guitar was perfect. So why don't I love it? Unfortunately the one I bought and a few I later tried at the store, all had terrible intonation past the 12th fret. I've spent more time in the past few days trying to tune this thing than I have been actually getting to play it. I've tried talking myself in to keeping it cause it is a beaut. It's a huge shame that the intonation cant match the looks. I may have just been unlucky but save your self the hassle and make sure the one you pick up plays correct past the 12th fret.

Amazing Guitar!!!!

By Thomas Kar

from Scottsdale

Comments about Yamaha APX500FM Flame Maple Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought the natural finish of one of these in January and couldn't be happier about my purchase! This guitar is nice and thin and light and easy to carry around compared to my samick dreadnought that I was upgrading from. However, don't let that make you think its sound can't fill up a room w/o an amp. It has a beautiful rich tone both plugged in and unplugged that I have to say is better than any guitar I tested in its price range! I was looking for a guitar that would help me further my music experience, and this guitar is perfect for it.

Great Guitar!

By Sallie R

from Calumet City, IL

Comments about Yamaha APX500FM Flame Maple Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar is great! The smaller neck is perfect for my small hands. It sounds very good unplugged, and I'm sure it will sound much fuller plugged in. Arrived in only 4 days. Would have given it five stars except the color is not true to the picture, it's more of a teal green/blue color, which is still pretty, but not what i was expecting.

Perfect guitar for the cost

By George

from Powell, TN

Comments about Yamaha APX500FM Flame Maple Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar about 3 months ago after playing a dreadnaught for 2 years. As an acoustic, you can't tell a difference between this thinner bodystyle and a dreadnaught. As a plugged in acoustic, it has perfect acoustic reproduction. This guitar is also great as a beginner for 9 yrs and up because of the shallow body, but it also will go with them as an adult guitar player. The 3/4 size guitars that most teachers recommend sound like a chipmunk with no bottom end. This full size works perfectly for both a child or adult. I would recommend this guitar to anyone considering a acoustic guitar on a budget. You will not be sorry!

My Favorite

By MusicLover22

from Roscoe, Illinois

Comments about Yamaha APX500FM Flame Maple Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This guitar is beautifully crafted and has a sweet, melodic sound. I went into Guitar Center, picked up the APX500FM guitar and instantly fell in love. With its smaller size, some people might think that it won't work as well as others that have a full sound and a larger size. They are dead wrong. The music that flowed from that guitar definitely made up for its size. Thanks for reading!

Second Guitar for a 3-year Player

By Jia Lu

from Vandalia, Ohio

Comments about Yamaha APX500FM Flame Maple Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I've had my old Epiphone acoustic guitar for 3 years, and I decided to buy a new one. I stopped in at Guitar Center every couple of weeks, looking for one that looked great and had a nice open sound, but I'd had no luck until one day I spotted the APX500FM in the Flame Maple. It's a really gorgeous guitar and has a great sound as well. It's a lot smaller than the guitar I already own and the fret board is shorter, which I'm still getting used to, especially when it comes to doing those barre chords. Overall, great guitar and I think it was a good buy! Plus, you and plug it in and play too. What more could you ask for?

Great Guitar acoustic cutaway w/eletronics

By Gary

from Spokane, WA

Comments about Yamaha APX500FM Flame Maple Thinline Cutaway Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I own it! I was looking for an inexpensive acoustic cutaway w/electronics. I compared every thing in Guitar Center acoustic room that was less than $500.00. The Yamaha APX500FM cought my eye and my ear as it had a good sound a little thin but filled in when pluged in. I was so inpressed with the feel of the strings that I E-mailed support to find out who made them. I noticed the "A" string was not sounding good so I put on some Martin SP lights and now I get a lot of complments on the sound and volume for a thin bodyed guitar. I also added a stick-on pick guard. I would recomend this guitar as a great value but change the strings it doubled it tone and volume. My other Guitars are Martin D28, Mexican Fender Strat & Telly and A Harmony
